  1. Hi fellow bansters! I am 33 and just found out that I am pregnant for the first time with twins...and scared half to death! Will the port site hurt as my abdomen becomes larger? I am really afraid of this. I am a year out so I waited the suggested time but non-the-less, I wasn't trying and was actually pretty shocked when I found out I was pregnant. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Pregnant with TWINS!!!!!!

WOW! How freaky is that? And do you see that we have lost about the same amount of weight? I've met my banster twin! LOL

    Pregnant with TWINS!!!!!!

We should definitely keep in touch. Hope all goes well with you!
  4. I miss sleeping on my tummy!!! 6 1/2 months out and it just bothers me. No pain, but definitely some discomfort when I try it. I guess everyone's different.
  5. It's been five months since being banded and the last month or so I have been experiencing extreme hunger. I have been filled twice and getting kind of embarrassed as I feel my eating is out of control. Is this normal? Should I continue getting fills or just try to tackle the mental as I am certain most of my hunger is just being down right greedy!!! My weight loss has hit a plateau for about two months and that's getting very discouraging. I don’t know if the increase in hunger is connected to the fact that I don’t feel that I’m doing as well as I should be or what. One good thing is that I am exercising more trying to compensate for the hunger so we’ll see. Just getting very sad with all of this…like I’m failing.

    Always starving!

Thank you all so much. I will call on Monday and get a fill. Don't know why I'm so darn embarrased about it!!!!!!
  7. Please make sure to contact your MD in the midst of all that is going on. We all can tell you about our experiences but at the end of the day, your surgeon should always be aware of problems that will unfortunately arise. Take care and hope you feel better soon!
  8. I had my first fill on July 7th and ever since, I've been ridiculously hungry! My hunger has actually gotten worse since my fill. I think I should go back for an adjustment very soon cause I'm starving. I have been doing great but today at lunch, I overate. I have to admit, the familiar feeling of being "full" felt horrible so I'm not sure why I did it. I'm not full to the point of being sick-just uncomfortable. I feel bad because I had been doing so well. I'm going to try very hard to not let old habits creep back into my life. Just needed to vent as I feel so very guilty...

    Frog in my throat?

Thanks everyone for the info. I kind of thought that was PB'ing but since it was my first episode (and hopefully my last), I wasn't convinced. Take care to all.
  10. OK, I went for my first fill on Monday (which went very well) and haven't had any complications other than a post op infection (which was 2 of the small circular incisions and not the port incision thank goodness) since surgery but today something weird happened. I was eating my usual hard boiled egg minus the yolk when all of a sudden, I started to feel this tightness in my throat as if the food was getting stuck. The episode increased in intensity for about 1 1/2 minutes. I was relieved by belching but felt as if I needed to throw up (which I successfully tried very hard not to do). Think I just swallowed too much at one time? While the episode was occurring, even swallowing my own spit was too much and only made the feeling worse. Anyone relate to this? I was worried about it all day at work and therefore didn't eat another thing out of fear.

    any thoughts?

I haven't tried any ice cream of any type yet but dying for some. Good question...
  12. Your pain sounds a lot like mine. I too was scared but it turned out to be gas. It was pain like I had never felt before and took about 6 days to finally subside. Definitely let your surgeon know to be on the safe side. I truely hope that's all it is. Take care and keep us posted.

    Diet Soda, Post-Lap Band

I was told by my MD that the carbonated drinks could stretch the pouch therefore causing slippage. Definitly missing my Cokes...
  14. When they place the band, it's empty. Yes, it's normal to be hungry but that too will get better. Some people have a lot of swelling and therefore, the sensation of hunger may be decreased. Hang in there for that 6 weeks!! We all know it's not easy but it's better for your healing process. I found that the hunger went away in about 1 1/2 weeks. Take care!!!
  15. And by the way, the Unjury unflavored is 80 cals/20 gr protein. Hope this helps!
  16. I have used several and have either given them away or stopped using them due to the unpleasant taste. Someone recommended the Unjury and I love it. I put it in my Carnation Instant Bfast as well as my yogurt and smoothies. It's been the only one I can stomach. They have samples as well. I suggest you buy a few of samples before buying a large container and therefore wasting money. This stuff can get expensive as ____!!:incazzato:

    Anyone a Nurse?

Yeah, it sounds like that's the problem. This doesn't mean you're a diabetic though. Your body is just going to have to adjust to your new and improved eating habits and realize that it no longer has to excrete large amounts of insulin into your bloodstream. I'm sure that's all it is. Good luck to you and congrats on your June Birthday or Bandday!! Sounds like you're doing great!!!

    Anyone a Nurse?

Hi, I could be wrong but it appears that your blood sugar may be dropping. Your body has to become used to the decrease in food. At one time, you ate so much and your pancreas was used to spilling large amounts of insulin into your bloodstream to regulate your blood sugar and now, you're confusing it with the xtra small amount of food intake. When were you banded? Have you contacted your MD? Are you a diabetic? Does this occur after meals? If this is the case, it should go away relatively quickly. To be on the safe side, you may want to contact your doctor. Hope this helps!

    Family Shocker!

Very cute posting. You sound like a lucky woman! Take care and we all wish you well.
  20. Thank you for bringing this up as I thought it was just me. I am only 2 weeks post op but my stomach doesn't seem to be budging. I'm losing mostly in my upper body where I can't afford to decrease in breast size  (TMI?). This makes me feel a lot better to know I am not alone with this.
  21. Hi all! I was banded on the 23rd but refusing to weigh due to the possibility of driving myself insane ! I think if we get fixed on the scale, we can ultimately discourage ourselves (as I've done so many times). I can't wait to see what the number is at my 6 week appointment though so I can update my ticker. I can definitely tell a difference with my clothing which is great. Good luck to all of you!!!

    Donna Atl

Hi and welcome to you! Atlanta is my old stoppin' grounds and I actually worked at Northside on the Oncology floor. I know a lot of RN's that work in Labor and Delivery there that graduated from Mercer with me. Post op diet will be clear liquids then advancing to full liquids for sometime. You diet will then advance to pureed foods. The timelines for when to start and stop which diet will be determined by your MD. Now, post op pain of course as you know will be subjective. I know plenty of people that were able to return to work in 2-3 days. But me? Girl, this surgery hurt! For the first 4 1/2 days, I was sore and having a lot of pain from gas but I awoke on day 5 feeling fabulous and have felt great ever since. I do not regret a thing. Good luck to you!
  23. Newme76

    Anyone doubt your decision...

I started this process some years ago and chickened out promising myself that since I was so young, I could buckle down and lose the weight on my own. I felt embarrassed to resort to surgery for something I thought I could control. Needless to say, I gained about 30 pounds over the course of those 3 years. I started the process again last year and promised myself that I would see it through and I did! I do not regret my decision nor the procrastination since we all do things in our own time and everything happens for a reason. I wish you well in your journey.
  24. Newme76

    Would you do it again?

WOW! I'm sooooo sorry for what you're going through and pray that your health stabalizes and you have no more complications. You had this surgery for a reason. Your course just had some detours but try not to have regrets. I'm certain things will get better and I look forward to hearing your thoughts a year from now. Best wishes to you.
  25. Congrats to all of you as you start what will be the begining of your new life! It's so awesome to have somewhere to go and find people you have something in common with! Anything anyone would like to know, just ask.
