I am fairly restricted now and sort of like it that way. However
kplant posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't seem to eat or drink anything without having to spit a bunch of times. A "normal", 1/2 cup meal will result in almost 1/4 cup of saliva. Given, I drink a lot of water throughout the day but should I have it loosened? I have lost close to 85 pounds and was banded last Dec1 but still need to lose 15 more. -
is it just me or does the lapband tightening mean weightloss?

I have an appointment to get my band loosened tomorrow. I can't really eat solids and I started calculating my calories and I am eating about 600-800 a day. However, I am not losing weight. I am starting to think that my body reacts to the band being tightened as I have lost 10 pounds or so (even if I could still eat quite a bit) after every tightening. Is this possible? Just curious. I have been exercising and doing everything else "right" but haven't lost in 1 1/2 weeks. -
NOW I am too tight but should I rush to the dr?

snereb27: I made the dorkiest of charts. Each and every milestone I could think of. You already hit a huge one. You are no longer morbidly obese. My weight loss is about 7 or so pounds a month too. Not really huge. When were you banded (also, I walk a lot too and I am soooooo sick of any exercise. I can't even describe it AND I still haven't had the band loosened so I am not losing weight, can't eat and am still exercising and hating it.) -
I have had a (WONDERFUL) cycle of "lose 10, band becomes too loose, tighten band, repeat". It always takes 3-4 days for the swelling to go down so I can eat. I have to religiously follow the "clear liquids for 2 days" that my dr. tells me. However, my last fill was the 23rd of July. I made an appointment at that time for the 20th of Aug in case I needed it tightened or anything else (it has been hard to get appointments). Anyway, I have lost 12 but have been able to eat solid food MAYBE 5 times since the tightening. I cannot drink anything but tepid-hot liquids (ice water won't go down). I kept thinking it would loosen and it didn't. I can wait for my appointment or a nurse will just take out 1/2 cc. I would rather wait because my dr is more precise but I am starting to feel dizzy and bruising a lot. Could that be from my diet or am I getting sick? I looked up and counted calories and I am getting maybe 800 a day.

catcalico, we are clearly on the same schedule. I am, however, getting sick of it and I haven't been losing anymore weight. I think I will get a slight unfill on Monday and keep my appointment for the 20th. -
I know this is a question for my dr but I was thinking as it has been soooooo long since I had a great meal but, since I have less than 30 more pounds to go, none of that for some time. (By "great" I mean more than 3 bites of that meal!!) But, what happens when you lose ALL the weight? I need about 24 more pounds and have lost 78 since starting this process in December. What happens when I lose all the weight? How normally can I eat? Will they reinflate if you gain? I am really restricted right now so I think I have to think of ANYTHING but food.

I find I have this annoying cycle. I get a fill, lose weight (usually, 10-15 pounds pretty quickly), have perfect restriction while losing (eat 4-6 well chewed bites, wait for 20 minutes, a few more and I am done for HOURS), then, fill sort of wears off, I assume due to weight loss and I stop losing. However, the fact I have less restriction means that food doesn't "stop" and it gets stuck in the band. I am going in next week but, in the meantime, what are GOOD foods that won't get stuck at this stage? I eat a great breakfast (smoothie with spinach and berries, no sugar) and then it goes WAY down hill (bacon, potato chips) I am not gaining but feel gross! (Down 61 so far! 47 more to go! I love my band!)

#1 I lost about 50 with one or two fills. It seemed to me that the band was no longer working. I would eat and be hungry again in a few minutes. Anyway, people here pointed out that I needed a fill because the weight loss caused loss of restriction (so, fat near band). Got a fill and lost 12 more. Now I am again getting hungry. Could I need another fill already? Would 12 pounds do it? #2 has anyone asked for the band to be loosened to go on vacation or for a break? I am vacationing with my in-laws who will make me nuts. I eat way more often now and a lot less.

I was banded in Dec, lost 48 up until April or so and then only 5 pounds over the next 1 1/2 months so, I went in for a fill last Tues. As always, my surgeon is fairly aggressive so I got .5 cc. Now I have lost 1.5 (!!) pounds a day (!!) since Tuesday. So, 7.5 since Tuesday! Should I call the doctor. I can keep some food down, can drink smoothies and nuts and am exploring what else I can eat. I am comfortable but eating very little.

I have lost a little over 50 pounds and had the band since Dec so I should not be asking this totally newbie question BUT, in the beginning, I did A LOT of PB, only needed one fill (which was sort of aggressive and I had to go back to take some out). I didn't tell the dr I was having a lot of PB but now, I realize, that is why I needed so little fill to get restriction. I think. Now I am finding I have little restriction (back to post op level) Could it be that it took about a month of careful eating (so I have no pb at all) to reduce all the swelling? I only have about 2.5 cc now. Is that what happened or is something else going on?

Wow! I recently lost some weight (FINALLY) from around my middle. That is interesting. I also didn't think of my stomach swelling. I was thinking more esophagus. Thanks all!
-
Just discovered I can only eat 1 piece of small toast in the morning UNLESS it is 2 pieces of toast with cheese in between. The more cheese, the better it goes down. Why? Silly band.

and what EXACTLY is the difference between pbing and throwing up? I think I am just pbing. Immediately after eating (as in minutes), no stomach acid, i just lean over and .... you get the picture. From eating too fast (I get hungry and do NOT slow down) or too much. I am slowly learning but still do this 1x a day. When I am good, I can go days without doing it so I don't want to loosen it.

I just came back from fill #2. #1 was 3cc and I felt nothing, #2 was 2 or 2.5 more and the dr has us drink a cup of water on the way out. I was fine until I was about 4 or 5 blocks from the dr office, stopped in a starbucks bathroom and threw up a few tablespoons (if that) and didn't throw up but my mouth is FULL of saliva. 1 hour later and the saliva is slowing down but should I wait and see?
-
On Fri I got filled and had to go back in to get unfilled as I was throwing up water and had a bunch of saliva (thanks lapband talk people for sending me back). They took out 1.5 and I can eat 1/2 cup or so then NO MORE (sadly, I tried at least 2x times). I have been great at making sure food is chewed really well but how does food stuck vs too much food feel?
-
yeah, I wonder if there is some way to add more tags so new people know, when in doubt, go back in. Or maybe they aren't as dense as me!
-
ended up going to the dr and had 1.5 cc taken out. The issue was more the constant saliva which, if swallowed, made me throw up. I could tolerate not eating/drinking for a day or so but I had to carry a bag with me and spit! I don't know what would happen when I slept! I told the nurse that lapbandtalk.com told me I should go in! Anyway, I at least now know my sweet spot is between 4 ccs and 5 1/2. I go in again in 2 weeks.
-
how does it get worse? I am still getting a lot of saliva. If I don't spit, I need to throw it up (I guess not real throw up -- no stomach acid). However, it my chest did feel really tight and now it doesn't. Should I wait another hour or so before calling dr?
-
also, forgot to add. I had a sort of large breakfast before getting filled (3/4 breakfast sandwich) and feel like I may have some pressure from this. Probably had this at 10 and the fill at 10:45.

This question is sort of two fold. I threw up food that got caught maybe 4 times in the last week. Small amount (it got caught when I started eating). It was always after 7 pm or so. The last time I chewed more carefully than usual but is there a time when I am MORE likely to throw up? I thought it would be in the morning but I don't really eat Breakfast and, when I do, there are no issues. Second question is, could this throwing up have damaged the band? This throwing up is totally recent (I only threw up once before and was banded dec 1)

most likely time to throw up
kplant replied to kplant's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hmmm. I have no idea where I throw up from. I just feel sort of bad (heartburn like), if I have hiccups, I know to stop. I then throw up some. I think it was actually in my stomach. If I don't eat at night or eat very soft foods, I don't throw up. -
weight loss immediately post surgery
kplant posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost maybe 4-5 pounds after surgery, 18 on the liquid diet. While I am happy with that loss, I haven't lost anymore weight, in fact, gained a pound. I had one fill and will have another this Friday. So far, almost no restriction (also, no fill to start with). Is this typical? I feel like I should be losing some but it is just as hard to curb my appetite as it was before. -
weight loss immediately post surgery
kplant replied to kplant's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
next fill is NEXT friday. I spoke to my dr and she said I can get a fill every 3 weeks which is good. I mean to ask if people were able to lose weight at all before the sweet spot. I am doing a good job diet-wise but not losing, exercising some but it is frustrating. I am SO motivated and the results suck because I am so hungry. -
I was banded 12/1 and am doing really well. Lost 20 BUT am having a lot of problems with eating when I get stressed. I just had my first fill so I don't have a lot of restriction yet and am doing fine reducing portions and such but suddenly, I will get upset or overwhelmed and I eat. I have no problem working around the band for these episodes (slowly eat a bunch of cookies). Where should I start to change this? Books? Overeaters anon? I need to change this to get the band to work.

I got my first fill on Fri. I am eating mushies and it is 4 weeks until the next fill. However, I am HUNGRY! I only have 3 cc and wasn't filled at all during surgery (mine was the first 2 incision surgery the dr did so she didn't want to fill the band when doing surgery). Why do I have to wait 4 LONG weeks. I really want to get started. I was banded on 12/1 and didn't lose at all during Dec. I sat down with some yogurt and was starving. I ate 3 containers and stayed full for about 2 hours. Should I call the dr?
