Went to my GP today and hooray she had Cymbalta samples. Yay! Also my BP is really good! After months of being terrible even on medicine it is down. It was so nice to see her and have a positive visit. I feel ill when I think of the Pasta lunch yesterday. I didn't even much want it (except the turkey meat balls) but the whole department was eating and the woman who made it all is insane and would have asked me 10,000 hard to answer questions about why I couldn't have pasta. Now she didn't force me to eat a piece of cookie cake. But you know what the worse part it? It wasn't GOOD cookie cake! Dammit if I am going to eat something fattening it better be good :frown: But...... the bright of my new life/ resolve is even though I felt horrible this morning, irritiable and on the verge of tears because of no anti-dep. I easily ignored brains call to stop for some sort of comfort Breakfast and had my healthy one instead

I had Pasta today. I didn't feel v. full or ill but I have worked hard to avoid wheat flour and other bad carbs and I did up right today. A piece of cookie cake in the afternoon. It was a really nice woman from work's b-day and another woman made an Italian feast. I normally don't like Italian but it was good. On the bright side I did get enough Protein with two turkey meatballs and some shrimp. I also avoided the alfredo sauce (easy because I don't like it) and the bread (easy because I was afraid it would get stuck). Somebody was taking pictures and it wasn't a very full plate of all, I was just a little dissapointed with myself. But on the other hand I didn't eat myself sick or go back for seconds. But the sad thing is if I was going to eat pasta I would have just preferred some plain old macaroni with a bit of butter. Ahhhh the fat girls comfort food - am I alone sisters? Somehow I doubt it! If nothing else I am feeling more satisfied with my meals and the hunger is tolerable versus the pre-band painful hunger. Long may it last. OK and one last little whine. I am feeling like major crap. The company who we have our insurance through makes us use crappy Medco for meds we take longer than three months. I send my order in last Monday but it didn't get shipped til Saturday so I ran out of my Cymbalta. Now I don't take it and not need it! I am already feeling crappy and on the verge of tears. I am praying it arrives tomorrow. Off to take some benadryl or something to get a nice sound sleep. I am super irritable. Cathy - you are lucky to not still be zombified. With the CPAP I am still sleepy. Without it, forget it, I feel sick the next day. PLEASE GOD we get off them soon. It is so hard to feel sexy wearing that thing and never mind spontaneous sex, I miss spontaneous napping. Sleep apnea was the final straw in realizing what a mess I'd become and needed this surgery. Also I get puffy when I eat carbs it seems. Been eating anything different. My ankles were puffy today after the pasta. Going to see my GP tomorrow. Wish me luck! Hopefully I will get some good news from her since my scale is wonky and I am not sure how much weight I have lost. Oh and here is a TMI NSV I have to share. I am wearing a sort of silky short sleeve dress shirt. I had pretty much quit wearing it because I just sweated too much in it and would have sweat marks in my arm pits no matter how much anti-p I put on. Well ladies, no sweaty pits for me today :huh2: Sorry if I grossed you out but I can't be the only here with a similar problem, especially amongst us Texas folks in the summer time.

Just curious. Is anyone keeping the fact they're having the band surgery from friends, relatives, or co-workers? I have told my mom and a couple of close friends. I am keeping it from my father because he's very judgemental and thinks people who can't keep weight off lack self control. Work is a cross between being private and feeling bad our work insurance policy doesn't cover it (I am HR benefits manager) and my insurance (husbands) covers it. They think I am having gall bladder surgery. Anyone else doesn't need to know. Maybe once I lose a bunch of weight I will say something but right now I am not ready to do that. Am I alone in this thinking?

Mini-triathlon Sailing vacation Find a new job and not fear I am being turned down because people see me as fat, therefore lazy Wear my skinny clothes again from last time I lost 100 pounds except this time know it's possible to keep it off without living at the gym and being hungry 24/7. Rock climbing. Going across the monkey bars at the park

Ugh the munchies are making me crazy. I will be the person who gains weight on Jello & 10 calorie popscicles! I hate being so thirsty after meals. I just feel icky in my throat. I am delighted to feel full after a tiny turkey patty and a few oven fries but my mouth just feels gross. And I think there are very few foods not enhanced by jalapenos which is certainly interesting! I do take a couple of tiny sips I must admit. You know I am having a lot less joint pain. Amazing, i haven't lost a lot of weight, but i wonder if it's changing habits? I mean going from a 6 pack of diet coke a day to none as well as cutting out a lot of carbs and getting enough Protein. Who knows, but I am happy  Praying the sleep apnea gets cured. I was so wrecked this morning I had to get Starbucks to keep the car on the road and they messed up and I think they gave me a soy instead of a skim latte. YUCK. coffee flavored splak! Last night my parents were over and my dad pointed out how much I wasn't eating. Which I guess would be ok but the I realised that meant he'd paid attention to how much I must have been eating before. Ah well I am sure I am not the only one here who has wonderful childhood memories about parents being mean because they're fat. I was happy how little it actually didn't bother me. Therapy must be working :smile2: But all in all I am full of the joys of life :crying: Trousers had to be rolled over my waist to keep them up. Need to get an accurate scale as ours is weird. But in the meantime just focusing on clothes and how I feel, which is pretty good. I am still on a real high from getting through the approval and getting the surgery done with Oh and ladies don't beat yourself up. I am going no where near my bike until it gets cooler, despite what I might have said earlier in the thread! I am only outside to walk to my car and go in the pool!

I want meat meat meat. Turkey patty melts are my favorite right now. Also I can no longer a Mexican restaurant we used to go to all the time. The tortillas I used to be able to unhale gross me out and the margaritas are just gross. Going to be tough because DH loves Pappasito's.

I am an HR manager and the first paragraph really bothered me. Does your company have a policy against dating in the work place or specifically dating someone senior to you? Because quite frankly that is sexual harassment if you're going to get fired because you were dating someone who got promoted. If they do have some sort of policy it should be THEIR job to transfer you and is completely to punish you by you being in a farther location. I can see though why you'd like to move somewhere closer to home. I would just tell you boss you don't have a choice but to move jobs but say you will do what you can to ease the transition.

I agree as well but it seemed like people were forcing themselves to eat tuna because it is a convenient source of Protein and already shredded for those still past the mushies and onto soft food. A lot of people have a hard time with regular chicken. It's an easy thing to have for lunch for those of us still babying our stomach. I liked tuna pre-band but the sound of it right now seems pretty blech.

Everyone should stop torturing themselves with tuna. Canned chicken is much nicer. I had the for lunch again today with Ryvita crackers. (well chewed crackers of course)

No problem! Next time you're at the store throw a 40 pound bag of dog food over your shoulder and imagine that weight on! We have a similar goal weight and I know we'll get there!! Thanks for inspiring me to get my ass back on my bike hopefully soon. When I rode my bike before the weight just fell off!

You could always do what my husband did with getting a bike. He bought a used one from a bike shop. He didn't pay too much for it but was able to get properly fitted to the seat and pedals. Your bum is going to be sore for a few rides but you'll get used to it. Make sure and get a seat designed for a woman. You could try the exercise bike at the gym to get yourself more used to it. 40 pounds - COOL! That is 8 bags of sugar. Enough dog food to feed four greyhounds for a week and a half. 10 more pounds than my 21 month old I can barely lift anymore! You go girl!
-
ITA agree on the bike fitting thing. I used to do long distance riding and when I was training for a two day ride (MS150) the first year I did it my pedals were just slightly off and seat slightly too high. I ended up hurting my knee and had a hard time with it because of course me being me I refused to let something like that bother me and rode through the pain / took painkillers! The next year I had minor adjustments at a bike shop and it made all the difference and finished in a better time and was able to do the more difficult course on the second day. Then I got fat AGAIN and had a kid and didn't have time to ride anymore.... But the trainers at the gym tell me the bike really is the best exercise. I would go for the costco one. It will be of better quality and Costco has an AMAZING return policy. Cathy the gears really do help. The little ones are for climbing, the bigger ones for flats. The idea is to get the best efficiency out of how much you pedal. Imagine a manual car - you wouldn't want to try to climb a steep hill in 5th just like you wouldn't drive down the freeway in first. You'd burn the car out that way. Think of yourself as the car. If it's too easy to pedal or too hard to pedal try changing gears. OK now I am DYING to get back on my bike. This weekend I will get my fun bike sorted out and go for a spin. It is such amazing exercise and you feel like a million bucks afterwards. I have done a lot of different exercises but cycling is the only one I could do for an entire day without my body 'breaking down' and get the bicycle equivalent of a runners high. And anyone can do it. When I did the MS150 I noticed that no matter how old or fat you are you're guarenteed to see someone older or fatter on the ride peddling away! I even saw a guy with one leg doing it! I am all good today and feeling very pleased with myself. It's so wonderful to have a single portion of oatmeal with berries in it for Breakfast and feel satisfied. Long may this last!

I have heard about women doing the day after childbirth... could be worse! DH and I did boy on top and I felt very sore in the gut afterwards and it was three weeks after my surgery. So I am amazed you even feel like it one week afterwards. Since it's your birthday I'd say make him give YOU some special attention and skip the actual sex part!
-
With the exception of the poorly chewed tortilla chip ( I wasn't think) that felt like glass going down I have been able to eat most anything. But I have avoided bread and anything too crunchy like granola or anything guarateed to stick like pizza. My problem has been afterwards. I took a few bites of pop corn (well chewed of course) and thinking since it went down ok all would be well. The next day I had a super stomach ache. The vineyard I drank last Friday wasn't good, but that's another story.... So far so good with me. A bit of restriction but I am getting foods down ok. Long may it last! I had chicken salad yesterday and it was delish and felt nice and full but not sick for quite a while.

Tai I was working from home a bit the first week after surgery and looking back I sent a few emails that didn't make sense. I also did defensive driving online and at one point was seeing double! feeling a lot better this morning. I swam a bit last night and my wee man slept through since we tired him out in the pool also. I tried some herbal tea that was supposed to bring on sleep but I don't think it worked. I will try it again tonight to see. I just don't understand it. I have almost no caffeine at this point and never after lunch. I have to wonder if feeling better and having less weight means I am less tired? I need to start reading something really hard to get through. Maybe time to pull out one of those 1000 page classics I keep trying to make myself read to prove that work and baby haven't robbed me of my brain power  My scales are so weird I have no idea about weight loss.
-
Well maybe when you get home. And you reminded me to add a adopt a greyhound siggy. Thanks

Just PB'd and I don't think I'm finished yet!!

Do you have any nasal/sinus drippage right now? A friend of mine PBed a lot because of all that gunk draining into her tummy. Did the toast get stuck maybe (or did you have toast with this meal?) Maybe your tummy was just upset from last night or breakfast this morning. Got a hangover (LOL!!). I was a bit ill Saturday morning from wine and felt like a real loser. Or maybe your body is sick of eggs? -
I would take the benadryl if you have the day to sleep. Or call them and ask if claritin or zyrtec would work. If you can sleep I am jealous. And I am sure your GORGEOUS hound won't complain. My hounds are happiest when I am at home sick so they can nap on the bed with me.

eggs sit very funny with me since I had my surgery. I know they're supposed to be one of those high Protein wonder foods and all that but I haven't been able to eat them with the exception of a Breakfast bake I did that had bread at the bottom so they didn't taste to eggy. I think our stomach are fussy at the moment and feeling a bit abused after the surgery. I ate a bit at the weekend and felt like throwing up. I haven't been able to have anything that isn't a comforting food for breakfast. I have been enjoying oatmeal w/fruit or Protein shakes with fruit. It really is like that any time of the day so I have been just doing meat or dairy Proteins. -
If it helps, Dr. Davis assured me it was quick and not a big deal (LOL wondering how he know this exactly being so lean...). Anyway I did see lidocaine on the table when I had my follow up visit so at least they numb it. I am just like you and I just keep telling myself how it will be worth it!

It's a wonderful place to start and a 'safe' environment to get those of us who are afraid of gyms and used to exercising in public. When I first got on a a fitness kick I went for a few months but got bored eventually and joined a regular gym. It is really fun though and the structure of it makes it easy to follow.

Looking for Bandsters in NW Houston
greythope replied to babyblue71us's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello Another bander in NW Houston - in the Klein area of Spring. This is certainly a strange journey, a group of people going through the same thing would be great to talk to. -
Tai 68 your trip sounds lots of fun! I am sure a British wedding will be lots of fun with a full day livations and lots of fun people. Or hopefully anyway. I am picturing Four Weddings and a Funeral type affairs. Got your hat yet? :cool2: I love Amsterdam. The Dutch are so helpful and friendly. Avoid the icky part of Amsterdam (red light district etc). There are so many other things to see. And of course the Heinekin Brewery! Thanks for the pep talk guys. Ironically the band and its success is the least of my worries. I still have some restriction, clothes are getting loser, wedding ring isn't tight, and my trousers were like clown pants today. I just worry about if there are any internal complications going on because of toddler lifting and general living. But I do feel better now and we went swimming after work which is always fun. My friend who also has the band advised me to learn to be a cowgirl. (wicked laugh sorry if I offend anyone with that statement) Going to bed soon, hopefully I will have a good rest. I am drinking some herbal tea that is supposed to bring on sleep. I'd prefer an ambien but I don't have any and it would probably just made me do that sleep eating thing! Which I actually have a problem with but I made sure and keep the house stocked with 10 calorie popscicles and Jello. And hooray me. I can't believe I haven't had a carbonated beverage in 3.5 weeks!!!! I feel like I should get a medal for that. I have been drinking diet sodas since I was 8 years old! Cathy I am jealous onederland is close for you. Anything under 200 is a nice place for me. I guess I am lucky I have a big frame even for a short person. (remind me I said that when I get there and am whining about my weight still!).

I have an aching tummy since yesterday. Feels like acid burn. It started right after 'relations' that put pressure on my stomach. I am really worried I hurt myself, or we should I say. I just really don't want to call the doctor and explain that one! I did get sick on Saturday, coffee on an empty stomach and I'd drank wine the night before. Surely one incident of vomiting won't hurt. Argh I just feel like I can't recover with the way my life is. I have to pick my son up and put him in his car seat, laundry doesn't do itself. I wish I could have taken another week. Feel like crying right now. Probably another side effect. Because I won't take all my pills at once I have been forgetting my anti-depressant here and there. Also my little guy cried on and off last night so we were up a lot trying to sooth him. He is normally a perfect sleeper so only fusses when something is wrong. This morning he must have been tired too and held onto my leg and cried when I tried to leave him at daycare. Had my first 'wanting to stress eat' moment with the stress of trying to get out of the house / being exhausted. I just want to go home and crawl under the duvet, glad I didn't wear mascara today. I can't though - lots going on at work and am trying to negotiate a raise even though there is a wage freeze so need to be here. Part of the reason I had the surgery was so it would be safer and less high risk to have more children but jeez I can't even handle the one I got. OK off to close my office door and have a bit of a boohoo.

Treadmill VS Elliptical
greythope replied to bandster_1007's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I prefer the elliptical. You can get a super workout with v. little impact on your joints. I did myself no favors running on the treadmill the last time I was working on getting thin. I would run through the pain and made my back and hip main more chronic. With the right music the elliptical feels like dancing to me. I would agree $189 is way too cheap. You're better off getting on that more sturdy. We paid around $800 for ours at costco.
