Sweetened drinks (without sugar)
Puffy-no-more replied to Puffy-no-more's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok thank you everyone for the ideas. I will definitely be trying these! -
It says that you have to have a detailed weight history but again, my doctor hadn’t received my medical history yet and just sent in that one office visit notes and that worked for me. I hope this helps!!

I don’t know how to add the link. Here is a screen shot of the one that was updated in December. It has no mention of the 6 month requirements. I googled “unitedhealthcare choice plus bariatric surgery” and click on the one that is a pdf file. The one updated in October is where they removed the 6 month guidelines and at the bottom of the pdf file, it shows that that is what was removed.

Ok. Please just try this out! I have the same insurance through my husbands job. They kept telling me 6 month diet requirement. But one day I actually pulled up their policy for it and saw that they had revised their policy at the end of the year 2019 and removed the 6 month requirement. I called them back and spoke to several representatives who said no that’s not true, we require 6 months. Well I had my first consultation with my surgeon dec 23. The nurse told me that sometimes policy gets updated but the representatives on the front end are not always aware of the changes. She suggested sending in the prior authorization at the beginning of the year and just see what they came back with. She sent the prior auth on Jan 2. On Jan 6, they let me know that I was approved. I had no diet followed by a physician. They hadn’t even received my medical records from my primary doctor yet. All they had was my first consultation with the surgeon and my psych eval(which is not bad at all). I had surgery feb 19 (I could’ve had it sooner but my schedule hindered it) So please see if your doctors office would do the same thing. They have changed things under that plan but unfortunately they are still giving out the old information.

I think that I have. But it was between week 2 and 3. The scale didn’t move at all. But now I’m 3 weeks and a couple of days and I see the scale moving again. -
Dehydrated And Low Blood sugar

Also, when I went in for my 2-1/2 weeks post op appointment, I had lost 30 pounds. My doctor said they can tell who is dehydrated because those folks lose alot faster than others for some reason. So maybe that is why on your weight loss. -
Dehydrated And Low Blood sugar
Puffy-no-more replied to BecomingAnna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@BecomingAnna oh my goodness I was right where you were last week! I had the bypass on February 19. I wasn't getting fluids in, sick of full liquids, feeling dizzy, mouth dry, dark urine and feeling very sorry for myself. I am an hour away from my surgeons office. I called them and let them know I was only getting about 15-20 ounces in a day and they told me to go straight to the ER to get fluids. I go to the ER in my town and doctor there said yes you are dehydrated but IV fluids are not the answer. You need to drink. I was sooooo mad and crying and everything you can imagine. They brought in a bottle of Gatorade zero and I started drinking. I didn't finish it of course while I was there, but since then, that has been my go to drink. I don't know what it is. I'm still not getting enough. My urine is still dark and I sometimes feel like why in the world did I do this. But I'm holding on because I've seen alot of other people say the same thing. I'm believing that it will get better. I would still call your doctor though. Let them know what you're feeling and maybe there is some help they can give you. But do know that you are not alone! Other people may think you are being ridiculous but I don't think so. I'm right there with you. We'll get there!!! -

That looks good. Are you on full or clear liquids? If you have a creamier style soup, how many ounce are you able to get down? I'm not sure how many ounces I'm supposed to have. -

@doublepau I know it can be somewhat controversial and some don't agree with them but my surgeon's office is actually very "for" them. I use the multi vitamin patch. One a day. And then I take 1 pepcid a day. Once I am able to get things down better, I do plan on taking regular ones along with the calcium and all that, but for now I'm sticking with the patch. -

So I’m not sure about everyone else but I am 2 weeks out from surgery. Every plan is different but my surgeon doesn’t want me tracking anything except for fluids. I am on full liquids for almost another week. She has straight told me she isn’t worried about protein yet until I get to actually eating foods. this may be different than your plan but I feel like we are all trying to follow our specific plans for this stage. With us being a month or less out from surgery, I’m sure we all have different requirements than you at this point. having said all that, I have heard that Baritastic is a good app for tracking and I have it downloaded for when I’m ready for it! -

I hope it goes away soon! Another question for y’all. During your full liquid phase, if you had the broth from a soup, how many ounces could you have at one time? I’m talking about stuff that would be thicker than just a chicken or bone broth but yet still a liquid. -

I am 12 days post op. Just had an appointment with my surgeon. I have one incision that is still very sore but not to the point where I need pain meds or anything. I have been feeling pretty good. I'm sick of fluids, honestly but my doctor just gave me so new ideas to try as I have over a week still to be on full liquids. My only issue just started today, of course after my appointment. Every time I take a sip of the ice cold water that I've been drinking since after surgery, I get some pretty strong cramps. They last for a few minutes and then it's done. I'm not sure what that's all about...... -

So I had RNY a week and a day ago. I just started on the full liquid stage yesterday. I've been telling my husband that I want some kind of creamy soup. Well, the church I go to, if someone has surgery, there is a group or committee that will cook meals and bring to the family. Well today, this nice lady brought over some creamy tortellini soup with sausage. I'm soooo drooling and wanting some (of course just the soup part, strained and all that) but I'm worried about what might have been added. Would there be too much fat added? What kind of milk or cream was added? I don't know the lady very well to straight up ask her. Would you have some or should I leave it alone?

@MOHOJO19 I'm really sorry for you. I know it's way easier to say this than to go thru it but I'm sure your doctor is only trying to do what is best for you and before you know it, you will be done! -

February Surgery ?

@MorganF I hope you start feeling better soon. I didn’t have my gallbladder removed but I had an unexpected hernia repair and I was in a lot of pain as well. I had to stay dosed up on the pain meds for a couple days which I guess can make you nauseous so they also kept the zofran going. But it got better after a couple of days. I know it’s easier to say but it will get better with time. -
Hey so I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this. Before my surgery, my surgeon told me the incision on my left side would be the most sore. It definitely is but I'm starting to wonder if there is more to it. My surgery was a week ago tomorrow. I have been off of all pain meds for several days now. Since that time, that incision has been more sore and swollen than all of the others. But starting this morning, I started having a stabbing pain in it almost anytime I moved that is very strong. That has since changed to a very strong burning pain even when I just move my left leg. The incision site looks fine. No redness or drainage or anything but I'm starting to wonder if something else is going on. If I push on it firmly enough, there is a hard lump that is not on the opposite side. Anyways, thoughts??
