Let the shopping begin!
lvidacovich replied to ColoradoCanuck's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm there with you! I got a few sale things to get me through the winter. My new flannel shirt is XL (had been wearing 3XLT) and my new vest is also XL. I went to REI and fit into EVERYTHING I tried - some was XXL and some was XL. Previously I was only able to shop in the big and tall section. I bought a pair of size 42 waist pants, still waiting for those to fit but I recall buying size 50 this summer for my Europe trip and I'm almost in the 42s so I'm getting closer! -
Foods you can no longer tolerate

Fairlife is real milk! Just really ultra filtered. -
I saw my surgeon and team last week and got some good info on calorie and carb limits and it gave me a great idea. I came up with a rule of thumb for my food. 10 calories per gram of protein and more protein than carbs and I can eat it! Why? I need 70 grams of protein and 700 calories a day so as long as I'm getting 1 gram of protein in with each 10 calories I eat it shouldn't be an issue! Carbs and Protein both have 4 calories per gram. If you have a food that has more carbs than protein then chances it it won't fit this rule of thumb. This won't work for everyone obviously but I wanted to share it as I know looking at nutrition facts can be daunting at times!

Glad to know I'm not far off base!

How many calories a day do you eat?
lvidacovich replied to BQT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 7 weeks out - told I need to be shooting for 700 calories, 70 grams protein, less than 40 grams of carbs. -
I'm looking to start weight lifting to build muscle and cut down on skin sagginess. No idea where to start though. I'd like to work the following muscle groups, likely 2-3x weekly? Biceps, Triceps, Rhomboids, Abs, Pecs, Thighs and Calves. I have small weights (think 1-2 pounds) and a bungee type system but I'd be willing to invest in joining a gym or some free weights, I just don't know what kind of plan to follow to do this right. I currently walk 2+ miles about 3-4 times a week and do barre 2x a week.

Update to this - I joined a local gym with multiple locations. I met with my friend who is a personal trainer and we met at the gym and came up with a plan. 3x weekly - my gym has machines set up in rows where one is arms, one is back/chest and one is legs. There's a small section of 4 or 5 core machines as well. I'm going to do a row each time I'm in there and do core every time. The machines will make it easy, less intimidating and make sure I work things properly. I also found a great app WITH a watch app so I can track my weights easily as I'm working my way down the line!

It does yes. You'll stall or go slowly between weeks 3-5 or around about there. I was losing very steadily until I hit that and then it dropped to 2-3 pounds a week. Then I lost 6 out of nowhere over 3 days. Of course it was over Thanksgiving and I wasn't tracking food or weighing myself so I just that had gift when I got home from family haha. Now I'm back to the 2-3 pounds a week and I guess I expect to see another 5-6 pound drop sometime this month. Just in time for the 3 month stall I hear about.

Appetite Suppressant for Pre-Surgery Patients
lvidacovich replied to grommie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remind me to never move back to the state I love so much...Missouri! Never has calling it 'Misery' been so appropriate. I thought my 1 day clear liquids diet was tough and I was still allowed protein water! -
Shoot, I'd be dead if I couldn't eat meat!!

Hospital bill prepaid?
lvidacovich replied to Tammygirl79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I paid enough to get to my OOP max the week before surgery. Sounds similar to what they asked you to do and it seems fair. My insurance has never been cooperative. Even with pre-approval they denied my $130k claim so now I get to play messenger between my hospital, my surgeon and some 3rd party because my insurance is out of state. -
6 months out and 550? That's low! I'm 7 weeks and was told to stick around 700. You should be at least around 1000-1200 BUT use that honeymoon period and keep it up! I struggle to stay under 700.

Baritastic - here's why. It logs food and water, allows you to track macros easily (so you can keep track of carbs and protein), it logs weight and measurements and I like the way it looks and feels vs MFP. It's specifically designed for bariatric patients.

Sleeve here, 7 weeks out tomorrow. I can do a premier shake in 15 mins if I have to. I normally try to take it in over 30 or so.

I'm very curious how your weight loss has been to this point. -
VSG cramping after purees, otherwise I'm a bottomless pit for fluids
lvidacovich replied to jason2483's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, this is all typical and normal. Liquids and slider foods don't stay long enough to trigger your fullness hormones and this close to surgery our fullness indicator really isn't working. You have to use restriction to figure out where you're at. -
insecure about how much weight i’ve lost, or not lost?
lvidacovich replied to MariahS0105's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're doing spectacular! I was 10/22/19 and I'm at 48 pounds since then. I've been told that was awesome and there's no way I'll get to 70 at 2 months so you're kicking my butt! Fill out your surgery profile so we know starting weights, surgery weights and what type you had! -
I have my 1 month follow up today - but it's closer to 6 weeks due to holidays and my doc being busy at the end of the year. I get to meet with the surgeon and my nutritionist. Still dealing with insurance and the billing department at the hospital. It's gonna be a chore I think and I know I'm gonna wind up paying a bunch. So far I'm down 48 since surgery on 10/22. 279 this morning. Hope to be 277 by the end of the week so I can call if 50 total. Somehow I lost 6 pounds between 11/27 and 12/1 and I have no idea what I did to make that work! But for now I'm back to the lose a pound - wait two days at the exact same weight - then lose another pound. It's MUCH slower than I thought it would be at this point, I'm still so close to my surgery! As long as I'm under 250 by April for my Hawaii trip I'll be happy. Joined a local gym today as well - working with a friend who is a personal trainer to get a workout plan. Going to lift 3 days a week and continue barre 2 days a week. Might give up on walking for a bit, at least during the winter.

Seriously, who are these people that freely make comments about your body

You look great! Ignore the haters -
Hard same here. I need to lose 2 pounds a week to hit my goal weight for Hawaii in April. Starting this week I'm adding weight lifting and I was told that will help a bunch!

I've been eating it since my soft phase because I wanted something to chew (crunchy PB). No issues here ever. I literally have a teaspoon a day

I too am a picky eater. I just try and eat protein and if I'm craving something I go for a healthy version. I absolutely LOVE pizza so I get quest protein pizza or chicken crust pizza. If I'm in a rush I do beef jerky or similar.
