Work.....How long were you out?
jlb8080 replied to HLsleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went back after a week. I do have a desk job but I wasn’t tired or anything at the end of the day. -
Yesss!! Especially being newly sleeved. The mental challenge is the hardest. My Dr. was just like go with it. You WILL lose weight and the way you eat will always be this new way. He said he doesn’t even care about the Weightloss this soon because it’s not important. What’s important is following the plan. I can honestly say I’m not perfect with the plan, but if you think about it you’re going to drop weight. I was almost 2 weeks stalled then bam 2lbs down the other day and 2 yesterday (I almost didn’t weigh today for fear I was gonna be stuck at yesterday’s number). The mental struggle is real!!
-
And down another couple pounds today!! Good to see what they say is true.. when it breaks you start dropping quick!! ☺️ thank goodness lol
-
@catwoman7 It's def something good to know beforehand. I was stuck in the stall and researching it but it's not the same as knowing before. And then you still second guess the surgery. I think it's a lot of mental stuff in the beginning like you said. Everyone is like Oh what if i'm the only one it doesn't work for. And then wanting to rush through the weightloss just to get where you are eventually going to be. I hate being in limbo with stuff and this is one big limbo journey lol

I guess I'm more surprised I'm so close to my surgery date and and almost a 2 week stall seems a lot. Anyways, I am feeling good now to see the scale move. The first 20lbs just dropped like nothing. Hopefully i'll see that happen again lol. I know there will be stalls and a lot of people have them. I think it's the first one right after surgery that seems scary..like did I do this for nothing 🤣

Post surgery pain management
jlb8080 replied to IrishMamaBear's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I stopped pain meds after I left the hospital. It was just gas pain for another day or so and they didn’t help for that. Never had any pain after that. -
How are my fellow December surgeries doing?
jlb8080 replied to lys's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was 12/12 and honestly it’s been super easy!! I did eat too much once and it came up but it’s a learning curve to stop before you actually feel full. I’m down 25lbs. I did stop losing for almost 2 weeks but the scale moved again today!! -
My fav to this day and I started it in purées my 2nd week post op (I was sleeved on 12/12/19) is I put refried beans in a bowl, add ground beef (I puréed this that 2nd week) and then add salsa and cheese. Microwave it and bam! Super easy. I’m 5 weeks out now and I still make it all the time. I’ve even added olives, used turkey meat instead of ground beef.. I like it cuz it’s quick and a lot of protein!!

7 weeks post op and risking it

I steamed broccoli about 4 weeks out and it was yummy! I had no issues at all. -
Hey guys.. so what are your favorite unflavored protein powders and what do you mix them with?

Favorite unflavored protein?
jlb8080 replied to jlb8080's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@tinesha She just said use a protein powder other than collagen-based proteins. I'm not sure why? I will have to ask. I do take a supplement for collagen along with my protein drinks but I'm not sure the difference in say a whey protein vs. a collagen-based. -
Favorite unflavored protein?
jlb8080 replied to jlb8080's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Tinesia I was looking into that one but my dietician says I need a non-collagen based protein. Isopure is a whey protein which is animal based, it's not plant based. I do prefer vegan protein and have one in a few flavors. I just want another flavorless one to add into things to up my protein at this point. -

That’s the one I have in my amazon cart lol. Just wanted to get some input before buying it. That’s awesome you can just add it to water!! -
I am almost one month post op and have been in a stall for a week Dropped 20lbs in the first couple weeks. Hopefully it's about to break though. I am down a couple more this morning. So my doctor had me start soft foods about a week ago and in our plan at one month I can try new things. I've pretty much had no issues adding in anything and so I tried grilled chicken and broccoli. I chewed it really well and no issues. But is it normal to add in chicken so early? Has anyone else seemed to move through the eating states this easy and quick?

Hey guys! Ok, so I got my surgery on 12/12. I made my 1st appointment on 10/14 and within a week I was scheduled. I am seeing other people are having to go through more steps, including my good friend. He needs a series of visits to get approved for surgery. What is the difference and why such a crazy change in whether you will get approved?
-
What's your approval process?
jlb8080 replied to jlb8080's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBS of ND and they just required my BMI be at 40 or above at my initial visit and then I did a psych eval that day as well. The patient coordinator said it used to be more complicated but within the last year it's changed. That insurance companies are loosening up on their requirements. Maybe others will come back around as well. It's def in their best interest to prevent a lifetime of paying for medications due to being overweight and what issues that causes. -
Confessional - Lets post our cheats/confessions/etc so others can see that we are all human
jlb8080 replied to Matt Z's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My cheats began pre-op. I ate what I wanted up until surgery. I've actually always been a healthy eater. My weight came on the past couple years due to a thyroid issue. My liver was fine. I had an xray a month before surgery and that wasn't an issue. After surgery, I had a vodka drink on NY's, actually 2 lol. This was 3 weeks post-op. I am now 4weeks post op and down 25lbs. I have had a few bites of popcorn, a couple Doritos..all chewed to mush. I had a bite of turkey on Christmas the day before I was suppose to start soft foods. I have zero guilt!! -
Pre op liquid diet.. Surgery 1/9
jlb8080 replied to yesenia1016's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only did all liquids the day before surgery. I could eat whatever before that as long as it was low carb. -
3 days post OP- nausea, dry heaving, incision pain, not eating...
jlb8080 replied to Bamachicvsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bone broth was my lifesaver the first week because it had 9g of protein. Def needed it for energy and recovery. I had 7 days of clear liquids as well -
Having my own pillow and chapstick were the only things I used out of all I packed. You're pretty drugged up and sleeping most of the time.

Week 3-4 food suggestions or recipes
jlb8080 replied to 10SDIVA56's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My go to at this point (I am right at 4 weeks) is put some refried beans in my bowl, then add some ground turkey, salsa and cheese and put in the microwave. It so yummy.. That and the ricotta bake is popular. -
Things are going great! Was sleeved on 12/12. After surgery I came out of anesthesia coughing and was brought to the recovery room and then hospital room. It was very uncomfortable. Had gas from the laparoscopy in my back which made sleeping in the hospital bed HARD! Hooked up to machines, tossing and turning most of the time I was there. Surgery was around 10:30AM, I was up walking around 6pm. They gave me ice chips to eat the first night. The next morning they did the swallow and leak test. All was well so I got to try some broth, lemonade and a popsicle. Didn’t get a lot down but enough for them to let me out around 3pm that day. The first day was the hardest as I was walking out the gas pain and each day gets better. Today, day 5, I’m home and have zero pain. Haven’t needed pain meds since the night before last. I have been doing housework and relaxing, sipping on my protein drink and water and some creamy soups. All in all, not bad at all. I am gonna take one more day off work and go back day 7. I have a desk job and I feel it’s pretty simple to incorporate in. I know I had a lot of questions and read so many different things pre-op, but it’s not until you go through it you know what YOU’LL experience. Today I wish I could have solid foods, but am doing ok on liquids. It’s a day to day thing at the beginning from what I’m seeing. Anyone wanna add about their immediate post-op experiences I would love to hear about them.
-
Hey guys! An update on me. I know I got a lot of help and encouragement reading these pre-op. I am on day 8 post-op. Went back to work yesterday and had a great day. I made it the entire 8hrs and wasn't tired at all. I do have a desk job which is nice. Today I weighed myself and I am down 18lbs!!! Can not believe I'm down so much after a week. Hoping this continues for a bit lol. I do have slight pain at the incision sites, but it's not a pain, more I know they are there. Zero problems with liquids or pureed foods, which I started today. Everything is settling pretty good. One thing I like and also need to get used to is once my tummy is full, that's it! You'll know and one more bite will prob mean throwing up lol. It's a great warning sign you've reached your limit lol. I am eating a lot of soups and even add a couple crackers that I chew into mush basically and no problems there. So far so good. I feel so much better and I feel part of that is HOPE. Hope for the future and a feeling that there is an ending to feeling like crap every day. I know I have a ways to go but this one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Weight Loss Post-op
jlb8080 replied to SlimChickadee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on 12/12 and I refused for them to tell me my weight on their scale because I use mine at home and I wanted it to be consistent. After all, it's not the number really that matters but the amount lost. I have lost 18lbs as of this morning since surgery and am super excited about that. In time you will lose and just focus on how you feel and like others say the inches. I know I'm thankful all that gas they pumped in me is gone lol. That was horrible on all levels. Pretty sure I was up in pounds the first few days. -
work after surgery
jlb8080 replied to AnnaBanana333's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on 12/12 and today at 1 week I am back at my desk job. I made it all day with no loss of energy or productivity. It was a really good day and I had no pain after day 2. I suppose everyone is different though. I am on my feet throughout the day, but mostly at a desk. It's the end of my 8hr shift now and I still have energy
