Why don't more people get the MGB? I love mine!
cspera replied to UnderTheCaliSun's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I had my mgb Nov 2019 and have loved it. I didn't have a single side effect and eat/drink everything I did before the surgery. I went from 240 to 170 in about 4 mos and then eventually made my goal weight of 150. My only issue is loose skin but I deal with it for now. I haven't had reflux since before the procedure and taking a bariatric multivitamin every day has made my lab values perfect. All this without even exercising. I would probably be a size 8 if I hit the gym, but I'm too busy and love my size 12. If anyone is considering it, do it. I had mine in Tijuana after a yr of research. Best $5000 I ever spent!!! -

I was told it isn't FDA Approved so most insurance companies won't pay for it. That's why I went to Tijuana to get mine. I haven't had a problem yet!! -
I had a MGB at Hospital BC 3 weeks ago. Everything went fine. I paid $140 RT airfare, $5900 for surgery ($4600 for sleeve) I stayed in hospital all week and even had a tour of Tijuana. I did have to pay $65 for blood thinners injections to take home but that's not too bad. They picked me up from airport and brought me back to the airport. If I would've had a companion, he/she would've stayed in the same room as me bcuz they have an extra bed in there for guests. I'm thinking about using them for plastic surgery once the weight loss is done making me look fantastic. Lol

Hi, I had a MGB last Tuesday. They pulled the drain on Wed. night. The incision was fine all week until I showered on Sunday and it started draining again. I just changed the bandage and 10 mins later it's soaked again. I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen? It's the same light red liquid discharge that was coming from the drain when it was in. My stomach feels softer and I don't really have pain, so I think the draining is helping, but I just wanted to ask everyone here while I wait to hear back from my Doc.

Drainage from incision site???
cspera replied to cspera's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spoke with the surgeon and he stated some people drain for up to 2 wks after MGB. Thankfully this is all normal, but strange because it stopped draining after the drain was pulled. Nonetheless, all is well in my world. Thanks for the comment. -
Hi! I'm having a Mini Gastric Bypass done on the 26th and I am worried about bile reflux. I've read more horror stories than happy ones on multiple forums, so I'm concerned I will end up another victim of bile reflux. Has anyone had a MGB and NOT have reflux? I really want a RNY but the surgeon won't do it. Any advice? Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

He said it's a surgery I dont need when a mini gastric bypass would be perfect for me. I'm scared of getting bile reflux from the MGB. That's why I want the RNY. If I get reflux then I have to pay for a RNY anyways. I'm not happy about it, but I need surgery so I will have to deal with it and hope I'm not one of the people that get reflux.

Sleeve or bypass? help or hurt GERD
cspera replied to boymom860's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have moderate acid reflux and was initially scheduled for a sleeve. I talked to my surgeon and he decided that a MBP was better for me. I'm concerned about bile reflux with the MBP, but a RNY doesn't have a reflux issue of any kind. If I were you, I would not get a sleeve and go for the RNY....just my opinion though. -

I am scheduled for the MGB on Nov 26th. I was originally going to get the sleeve, but due to my acid reflux issue, the doc wants to do a MGB. If I could choose, I would have a RNY. The risk of acid or bile reflux from the MGB is there and I can't stop thinking about it. Unfortunately, my doc refuses to perform a RNY on me. It's either a MGB or nothing. I have read many happy posts about the MGB so I'm starting to feel better about it. Thanks for the info!! -

What are you doing before your surgery?
cspera replied to JRT Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you get nauseated frequently, you should ask your dr for a prescription for Zofran. It dissolves under your tongue and works great! -
I'm having a gastric sleeve on Nov 26th in Tijuana. I only have a 3 day pre-op diet of clear liquids and protein shakes, so I won't be starving for 2 weeks like most of you have. I see most of you have had your surgery already. How did it go? How do you feel? I plan on taking a week off before returning to work....anyone having a hard time recuperating?

cspera replied to JRT Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having surgery on the 26th so I have been eating everything in sight. I only have a 3 day pre-op diet to follow which is liquid with protein. I can't wait for surgery, but I feel content having been able to pig out the last few days. -
I have always had a hard time keeping vitamins down. That's why I bought the Barimelts that melt in your mouth. I'm having my surgery on the 26th, but have been using the Barimelts for a month now. Hope that helps. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

OCC patients; seeking input
cspera replied to osito80's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am scheduled at OCC for November 26th for a gastric sleeve. I'm so excited, can't wait. They may not be the cheapest, but the reviews, credentialing, and excellent customer service make up for it. You get what you pay for. -
I have found so much useful information on these forums. I also bought all my vitamins, protein, and snacks at the store. I'm all set and ready to go. Can't wait and super excited. I'm on the low carb diet and have already lost 10 lbs. I may not need the surgery at this rate, LOL ! Any last minute suggestions from anyone? Anyone getting the procedure around the same time around me?
