Blah...my first stall...
canadianpopcycle replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ah yes, the infamous 3 week stall. I started just thinking of my body 're calibrating' and moving a smidge of fat from here to here, and moving more energy over there. I found that helped a lot with the mental energy worrying about the stall, thinking I had done something wrong, being catastrophic about it etc lol. I am a just over a year out...and I spend most of the month stalled lol then I lose. So I just think of my body needing a minute to figure out what to do next and get organized and it halts ALL PRODUCTION until it sorts itself out again and starts losing. Hope that helps! -
A week. I eventually had to take something to get it moving along. After that, I guess I am one of the 'lucky' ones! I go everyday/every second day and I don't take anything for it.

Can't Decide!
canadianpopcycle replied to Veritas34's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I had my heart set on the sleeve as well. However, my gerd started getting worse and worse, and I thought...I can't logically get the sleeve and have my Gerd worse. I was afraid that getting my intestines all re-routed....and I was super afraid of the malabsorption. I'm really happy with my Bypass. I have had no complications, and I am still losing...and I am a bit over a year. I did some research on the malabsorption aspect of the bypass, and it sounds like it's not really a malabsorption in the truest medical sense. There are tons of great scholarly articles on the internet that can help with some of the myths of WLS. Have you met with a surgeon yet? They would also be able to help with some of your questions and fears on the medical side of it. Is there something is particular that makes you feel uneasy with Bypass? -
Gas pain....omg....
canadianpopcycle replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's so funny....I didn't get the pain everyone talks about....around the neck/shoulders/side. I had gas just inside....the pain was right above my bellybutton. Walking didn't do anything....it wasn't until I was at home and could just pass gas that I felt way better! That was day 2-3 for me. Hope you feel better soon! -
Do you do anything special for yourself the night before surgery?

How long are you missing work?
canadianpopcycle replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had 6 months of sick time accrued, so I took 6 weeks. I really wanted to spend that time working on changing habits, forming new ones and walking. I really wanted to make sure I was cementing my 'new life' before I introduced another element into the change. I didn't have any post op complications or issues. I know not everyone has the ability to take so much time off, but I found it really helpful for my emotional well being as well. I didn't know if I'd be super hormonal, in pain, or whatever and I thought healing mentally and physically and only focusing on ME would be beneficial, and it was. -
My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

Well...I'm going to give you the bright side... My pre-op diet was 5 weeks, with 5 Boosts everyday. No veggies, meals, protein, meat nothing. 5 Boosts and 1 cup of broth a day. 5 weeks. You got this girl! We are here for you! -
How much calcium??
canadianpopcycle replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello! My requirement is 1200; however, I have to factor in any calcium I get as well. So I always have a Decaf Earl Grey Latte in the morning (1 cup of Milk), I have 2/3 cup of fairlife milk at breakfast making my oatmeal, plus I have yogurt and cheese at lunch. So I only ever take 1 300mg Tablet because I get so much during the day. Just make sure you take it 2 hour before or after your multivitamin....Calcium and Iron don't get along Hope that helps! -
Totally agree! I just past 1 year...but I was home after surgery for 6 weeks. In that time, I just kept to a schedule. I still eat and drink at the same times as I did last year! I also found I would keep sugar free gatorade in the car and such just in case I got caught up somewhere unexpectedly. I say gatorade not water because my water bottle was too big for my cup holder 😂

I think we should be clearer on these boards about hair loss. Almost every post about hair loss has said to make sure you get your protein and vitamins (yes, we all should be getting our protein and vitamins), but this isn't the sole cause of the hair loss. It can certainly be exacerbated by not getting in your protein or vitamins. From the start, I have been able to get all my protein in, water, and swallow pills. I have lost about 40-50% of my hair. Thank goodness I have a lot of hair, but it is still noticeable to me. I am really annoyed by it because it's growing back....but it's coming in all weird, and it's full of static right now too. It's probably going to take about another year for my hair to return to normal. My point is, the stress of a 'traumatic' surgery on the body, coupled with massive hormone changes with this type of surgery is a big contributing factor to the hair loss. I spent a lot of months thinking it was my protein intake and that hasn't been the cause. I just want others to realize that it doesn't solely come down to protein.

8 days after the surgery. I suppose I am fortunate, but I go everyday....so I have no constipation issues

My program allows caffeine. However, on my 5 week preop diet I wasn't allowed anything except the shakes. My first morning in the hospital, they gave me caffeinated lemon tea lol. I have a coffee about once a month now...but I switched to earl grey lattes in the mornings. I use decaffeinated early grey tea, sugar free vanilla syrup and steamed milk (protein!). I am coming up on my 1 year next month, and I haven't gone back to coffee 'full time' yet. Not sure if I will either! I still crave Diet Coke like crazy....but I haven't had it yet either. Just my tea and water (with flavouring) for now. Hope that helps!

When did you start eating fruits? (Carbs content)
canadianpopcycle replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I usually use brown...but every now and again it's white, depends on the dish You could also slap some re fried beans and avocado on a pita...that would be delish!
