    calorie intake

well.. i've really been trying to up my calories.. but it's really hard. i think it's so crazy when people say that this is the easy way out.. if they only knew! but anyway.. yesterday's diet included: breakfast low carb Protein shake snack 1/4 cup hi protein crunch lunch 1/4 cup tuna w/ 1 tbsp. light miracle whip 1 slice fat free cheese 1/4 cup baked Beans snack 1/4 cup hi protein crunch dinner 2 oz. chicken 1/4 cup fat free ricotta cheese 1 tsp. parmesan cheese 1/4 cup totamto sauce totals: 750 calories, 10.5g fat, 78g carbs, 15g Fiber, 87g protein still under my calorie intake level. and i felt like i was being bad yesterday. i guess i did have more carbs than i'd like. but i did get plenty of protein.
  2. at my last doctor's appointment i was told that i should be starting a full soft diet (3 soft meals daily) and my calorie intake should be between 1200-1400 calories a day. i was just wondering how everyone is getting that many calories daily? i usually get between 700-800 calories daily. anyone have any suggestions?

Weigh in... how much have u lost?

sarah- i got banded on may16th and had lost 17lbs by my post op appt on the 27th. and as soon as i started mushie foods it just stopped! i have been stuck at the same weight for 4 days and then today.. i gained a pound. when i first started mushies i thought i wouldn't even need a fill at my next appointment cause i got full pretty fast. so i don't know what they'll tell me, but i'm also scheduled for my first fill on june 13th.
  4. well, at today's first post op appointment my blood pressure was quite high, 161/92. they took it a few different times and it didn't go below 148/89. i've never had high blood pressure my entire life. sometimes it's slightly higher than normal at the doctors, but this just seems a bit too high. anyone have any similar problems post op?
  5. oh my goodness! so.. today is day 11 for me (banded 5/16) and i was supposed to be on fluids until saturday. But i had my 1st post op visit today and asked the doctor when i can start mushies, and he said today!! so i had already had my two protein shakes for the day and then i made eggs & cheese.. wow, it tasted so good!! i only ate half of 1 egg and some cheese and i was full. i can't wait to have some tuna tomorrow.
  6. so i know this may sound so silly.. but i had the hardest time with food today. driving around and smelling everyone's bbq. it was the worst. i haven't really been hungry since being banded on may 16th, but i really do want to chew on something. so i have to say that i sort of cheated today. i didn't eat anything bad, really just something that i'll be starting in the next few days, but either way, i had to come clean. i ate 3 red kidney beans from my husband's rice and beans. he's dominican and i think he makes the best rice and beans ever! and the smell of it just got to me tonight. so i guess i don't really feel bad about it.. at least it was lean protein and it's not like it got stuck. anyway, i can't wait to eat real food. just something with a little texture. i know many of you may feel the same way, just hang in there. i'm trying my best.

    Weak

did your doctor put you on any medications? cause i was put on a medication to prevent gall stones and it makes me feel really weird.. hard to explain, but just out of it, dizzy, weak, etc. i can tolerate it before bed cause i can just sleep through it, but i had to stop the morning dose. just wondering if you were on any meds that could cause these problems?
  8. actually i found a heating pad to be one of the best ways to get rid of the gas. and it feels good on your muscles, which can sometimes be a little tense from surgery.

    Outfits as goals

oh boy! do i have goal outfits! i've had so many weight loses and gains in the past few years that i have a huge selection of different sizes hidden away in the closet. although i would have to say i bought a goal outfit the other day. it's a cute summer dress (size xl). i can't wait until it fits! i'm so excited!
  10. i wish you the very best of luck on your journey!!

  11. i was banded on may 16th and i'm still on liquids. my doctor said i could have egg drop soup.. good amount of protein in that! you can always buy unflavored protein powder and add a scoop to any soups or liquids so you make sure you get your protein for the day. hope all goes well!
  12. I just wanted to say HI! My name is Christina. I'm a 24 year old mommy from Highland, NY. I had my lap band surgery on May 16, 2008, by Dr. Ashutosh Kaul, in Westchester, NY. I've lost 10 pounds since my surgery date and prior to the surgery I had lost 26 pounds.

    Am I hungry?

ok, so i agree, this is gross also. but i was constipated the first four days. then on day five i only had diarrhea, all day long. today makes one week and i'm back to normal. but doctors have said that it's completely normal to have crazy changes in bowel movements. even diarrhea lasting up to a week is ok, they usually recommend immodium for that though. but soon you should have about 1-3 movements a day.

    living with the lap band

to help with the gas walking and a heating pad on your lower back worked the best for me.

    Am I hungry?

well, i'm only a week out, but i did have bad indigestion and bad gas to start off with. after a few days that went away. gas x, walking, and a heating pad on your back may be a help. the heating pad definitely got the gas moving on out for me. i hope you start feeling better soon!

    Hello

congratulations on your surgery! i too was banded on may 16th, in westchester, NY. glad to hear you're doing well. i'm about to go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather myself!
  18. it's all the gas they fill you up with during surgery (so they have a good view inside you). try to walk as much as possible. also, if you put a heating pad on your lower back, that will start getting the gas moving on it's way out. and congratulations on your surgery!! i wish you the best!:cool2:

    Question: Four days out

i'm feeling pretty good now. i went back to work today, so at least having different people to talk to was nice. and finally the weather is nice so this weekend i think i'll be taking quite a few walks through our apple orchard. being out and walking around actually makes you feel really good. i've been trying to stay away from the mall though. (i have a shopping problem) haha! and i LOOOVE MAC cosmetics!! it's funny though cause i've only had my makeup done once at one of those counters and it was a few years ago now, but i walked away looking like i had two huge black eyes. it was horrible. i had to hide in a corner of the mall trying to get all of the makeup off. anyway, i'm glad to hear you're feeling better!

    Question: Four days out

regarding being depressed after surgery, It's perfectly normal to last awhile actually. I had my banding done on may 16th, so I'm almost a week out. I have to say that days 3 and 4 I was a bit depressed, even thinking what did I get myself into? But I my hormones are back to normal and I'm very happy with what I've done so far. dramahqueen06: are you feeling better now?

    newly banded from NY

hahaha! It definitely wasn't easy, that's for sure. Only being able to drink liquids right now has me almost in tears, looking forward to the most simple things, like eggs and cheese. I can't wait to have real food. Oh great, now you got me thinking about meatball sandwiches!! hah

    Post-Surgery Check-In

I'm just about a week out from my surgery. I was banded on May 16th. I'm feeling pretty good now, minus the frequent bathroom breaks. I've been able to walk around our orchard daily and I haven't had any joint pain, which is a huge improvement for me. I am having a little trouble getting all of my water in, but I'm working on it. I don't have any pain now and I'm returning to work tomorrow. Also, I've lost 10 pounds since my surgery.
