I'm at the end of day 3 of my pre-op diet and these protein shakes are constantly filling me up to the point where I've missed one today. But then the kids wanted pizza, and I was sipping beef broth in another room. And now my stomach is roiling and I'm legit hungry for the first time all day and want to go raid the fridge. Good thing I have to drink another protein shake instead... On the flip side, doc had me cut out diet soda, coffee, and alcohol back in early September, and this morning I actually weigh as much as I claim on my driver's license. LOL. Surgery is this Monday!!! Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the encouragement. I had my shake instead and I'm hungry again before bedtime and thank goodness I get to chew suger-free gum! -
How did you tell your little kids about WLS?
ColoradoCanuck posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have two kids between 6 and 13 and curious how to tell them about what's coming up. Would appreciate any advice. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm nervous as well. Like@planetabbi my surgery is Monday as well, but I'm getting a loop duodenal switch. I started my pre-op diet this past Monday and have already dropped several pounds. Good thing I like shakes! lol Hang in there, we're all here to support each other! Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

What are you doing before your surgery?
ColoradoCanuck replied to JRT Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've enjoyed my "last hurrah" lately; my pre-op diet starts tomorrow. In the past week I've had "smaller than usual" portions of steak, bacon, sushi, might have spaghetti tonight. Starting tomorrow: shakes, broth, and water for 7 days. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
DS for lower BMI revision
ColoradoCanuck replied to HP62442's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm not going in for a revision but I am getting a DS in 8 days. I didn't want to be in a place where I'd need a revision later and went right to it. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
How did you tell your little kids about WLS?
ColoradoCanuck replied to ColoradoCanuck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Follow up: Kids took it very well. My oldest had some thoughtful questions the day I explained it and the following day. My youngest started talking about having some fat around his tummy and that he wanted to be careful about what he ate too. I strongly emphasized that our bodies do need some amount of fat to stay healthy and that his body is perfect right now, and we'll talk about it more as he continues to grow. Thanks. He's getting out of the hospital soon. I have until this coming Friday to postpone my surgery a few weeks if needed. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

My father had a heart attack back in Canada and my surgery is in a week. He has a history of heart disease and has had many heart attacks plus a quadruple bypass, but this is the first heart stack in a decade that was bad enough to fire off the defibrillator unit in his chest. I don't know if I even have the option to move my surgery date or what to do. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

My surgeon time me to kick coffee completely before surgery (plus soda and alcohol), I haven't had any in over a month and I'm less than 3 weeks from surgery. I don't anticipate having any for a while after but I miss it. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm doing okay, have my pre-op appointment on the 8th, one week of nothing but water and protein shakes to shrink the liver... I already like the protein shakes, I've been building up to 2-3 per day already, but the week leading up to surgery will be 5 shakes per day. First week or two after surgery will be just water and shakes, so it'll be a good 3+ weeks of liquids. I'm currently trying to figure out what to "track" as far as weight and inches etc.. I'm taking time off work through mid-January to reset everything about life, learn how to prep my meals and what I can/can't eat, and by late December I want to get back to the gym, etc.. I love forums like this where we can all learn together and share information and experiences.

Anxiety about All this
ColoradoCanuck replied to IssyKitty's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Surgery twin! I'm also on November 18. @izzykitty: I've also been pretty anxious and the best thing I did was read as much as I could on Reddit.com/r/wsl, watch YouTube videos of people who recorded their journeys before and after surgery, and read lots and lots of forums like this site. My anxiety is still there, but I feel FAR more educated. My surgeon in Colorado is very patient and understanding and takes time to answer any sort of question I have as well. Funny thing, I was anxious before they set a date because I didn't have a date. Now I have a date and I'm anxious about the countdown. Stay in touch here! DS surgery date set for November 18, 2019 but insurance denied me
ColoradoCanuck posted a topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Did my classes, scheduled a date (I'm a teacher, doc said he deeply appreciated teachers and military and wanted to book around my schedule). But then I was denied by my insurance. I'm guessing my employer plan doesn't cover it. I'm hoping my surgeon can appeal on my behalf. I have a BMI in the mid 40's with comorbidities. I'm excited, and nervous. My school is going to let me take almost 2.5 months off to recover and figure out my new lifestyle. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
DS surgery date set for November 18, 2019 but insurance denied me
ColoradoCanuck replied to ColoradoCanuck's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Thanks, I sure hope so! With my background working in other industries, I'm privileged enough to be able to pay cash if I need to, but obviously I'd prefer not to! Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Who will you tell (or not tell) about WLS?
ColoradoCanuck replied to ChubRub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've only told 2 people at work, everyone else just knows I'm going on medical leave for several weeks. I told 4 friends I trust, one if then tried to talk me out of it which helped with my decision not to tell other people. Now I'm trying to figure out what to tell my kids. Surgery is in a month and I don't want to stress them out. (They're both under 13) My wife has told a friend and her therapist cause she's a worrier. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app
