I can barely handle cottage cheese and ground turkey meat in week 3, as much as I love a steak. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Had DS Nov 18th, how well could I manage blended Thanksgiving food today?
ColoradoCanuck posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've managed great on my liquids and protein, I'm up to almost 80oz liquids per day and close to 60g protein. I've tried creamed soups (always strained), gelatin, Gatorade Zero, the only dairy I've tried comes in the Premiere protein shakes. We're invited to some friends today for Thanksgiving who know I've had DS surgery. I'm curious how well I might manage some extra-super-blended and strained foods today. I'm only day 10 so I'm not going to push it, but I'm really close to my week 3 pureed stage. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Had DS Nov 18th, how well could I manage blended Thanksgiving food today?
ColoradoCanuck replied to ColoradoCanuck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I combined a very very small amount of potato and sweet potato and quite a bit of gravy, blended it down to liquid, strained it, and had that and some strained applesauce and wow was it good. Afterward I felt like I'd just eaten 3 giant plates of food, which was great. Small bowel movement a few hours later but nothing extreme. -
I was denied as it wasn't covered by my employer's plan, so I did a self pay option Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

My pain was strong the first day but very minimal now. My surgery was the 18th. I have been a side sleeper for years, but since my surgery I lie flat on my back and feel great. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
How I want to be today: But I had my DS on the 18th so I'll be trying extremely (!!!) small bites of mashed potatoes and gravy, maybe some sweet potato, maybe pumpkin pie without the crust. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

Abdomen feels crampy, pain has shared today. Felt pretty nauseated day 2. My oxygen levels are a concern, so I'm being sent home today with some oxygen tanks for my cpap and for rest time. Tonight I'll sleep completely flat in bed to see what that's going to be like. Might need to strategize how to effectively roll out of bed. I'm so very happy for the awesome people here who have shared their experiences over the years. I'm excited to get back home today! Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

Surgery went great on Monday

I sent a full recount via private message. Long and short of it, pin intended, I can't say enough good things about him. Very patient, very generous with his time, very calm demeanor, answers questions in easy to understand tends but also got into the how's and why's when I told him I was an engineer who wanted to know more about how things work. -
How long does it take an ounce of fluid to get through your pouch?
ColoradoCanuck posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm struggling getting enough clear liquids in and already messing up day 1 as I thought protein was more important. When I sip the clears too quickly I get a pain the middle of my chest that radiates outward. I'm wondering how best to time this. Sure I can gradually sip, but it's prefer to just take half an ounce at a time if possible. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
How long does it take an ounce of fluid to get through your pouch?
ColoradoCanuck replied to ColoradoCanuck's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. I was actually asking for a medical/scientific point of view, if you ingest an ounce of fluid, how long would/could/should it take to empty out of your stomach? Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
One week post-OP with two complaints
ColoradoCanuck replied to Metamorphosing's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had really bad insomnia last night. Was super drowsy at 10pm, woke up wide awake at 1:30am, didn't get tired again until 4:30am and then slept until 9:30am. Other nights it's because I wake up feeling gassy and end up with very water stools. (Never trust a fart!) My doc added oxygen to my CPAP which helps, provided my mask doesn't leak. This morning I switched from sleeping upright with a large triangular pillow support my wife bought, to sleeping on my side with some blankets supporting my abdomen, and I was out like a light. My DS was the day before your surgery and I'm right there with you. Getting 40oz to 64oz of liquid is the most important part. Protein is second. My surgeon told me to forego protein if I'm not getting my liquids in. Like you, I'm jonesing for a cheeseburger, a slice of pizza with green pepper, literally almost anything I could chew to get something savory. Bed broth doesn't taste good to me, but chicken broth does. I don't know if I'm allowed to add seasoning to the broth so I'm keeping it plain until later next week. Jello satisfies the sweet tooth, but the savory part, I just haven't found a good source yet. Stay strong, we're all here to support each other! Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

Can't stand the taste of crushed meds

I'm on several meds now that I got home yesterday, including some for helicobacter pylori, and I cannot find a way that doesn't leave a completely disgusting taste in my mouth trying to dissolve the meds in water or protein shakes. I'd love to hear any ideas you folks have. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

I just had surgery a few days ago, so I'm a ways off from pureed food yet. -
You as well!

It's 4am. My surgery is in 8 hours. I went to bed about 11pm, woke up at 2am full of anxiety and fear like "WTF an I even doing????" I dunno whether to go try to sleep for 2.5 more hours before my alarm goes off or just stay awake. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

Screwed Today = 1st Thanksgiving -
ColoradoCanuck replied to AJ Tylo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Honestly I debated poisoning my surgery to after Thanksgiving, for this same reason. It's my favorite holiday to cook for the family and I won't be able to have any since my surgery is tomorrow. Then again, that was kinda the point of doing this surgery too. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Good luck, good thoughts, and prayers for everyone else getting their surgery on Monday with me. The term "loser's bench" sounds a little derogatory to me, but I'm excited for the change. Whew, only two more days of pre-op diet!
