I am having a hyst. on 1/30. I am having the band deflated on the 25th. I have to drive 3 hrs. away for this as the surgeons in my town have only recently started doing the band and have done 50 of them per their nurse. She was not too friendly when I told her I had it done in Mexico. (I am from Michigan.) My biggest concern is any complications with the tubing or port during surgery. I am having a traditional "open" surgery as I am not a good candidate for laparoscopic or vaginal due to a very large fibroid and uterus. Anyone out there have a similar story?? Thanks for helping. Cheryl PS I am not a goat weight, have another 30-40 lbs to go but I am still considering a tummy tuck with the hysterectomy and I am torn on whether to wait until another time when I am closer to goal but that means a second surgery. Hello Doug, I haven't personally but I wanted to tell you that when I was searching on this site for info. on a few doctors (Aceves, Kuri, Sanchez) I saw a post from a man who went to Dr. De La Garza and wrote a very cautionary tale. He tells that his liver was nicked and colon punctured. He didn't get help in Mexico and quickly flew back to US for blood transfusions and surgery. I guess I would search for this and get in touch with him. Hope this helps.

:help:I am going to self pay and go to either Dr. Kuri in Tijuana or one of 2 doctors in Monterrey, Dr. Roberto Rumbaut or Dr. Rodolfo Sanchez who has done over 5,000 bands I read. Anyone been to either place, please advise!! Thanks:)

Jane, I believe Dr. Mark Pleatman is in Bloomfield Hills, Dr. Zoe Deol is in Sterling Heights area and Dr. Andrew Nunn is in Detroit. I think they will follow pts. who have banding elsewhere for a fee of course. I have not have band yet but also live in Michigan (northern) and am looking for follow care is I have to go outside for surgery. Hope this helps . :help: Hi group. I would like to hear from anyone in Michigan and who did their lap band. I am leaning toward Port Huron and Dr. Bhesiana as you has done quite a few. Does anyone know who has the best feedback and lowest complication rates for Michigan??

Hi Wendiss, thanks for the info. I am considering Dr. Deol and Dr. Bhesiana in Port Huron. Have you heard of him?? Good or bad. I have the check list and was just in to see my pcp but only had him fill out the one for Port huron. I can go back and have him do the checklist for Dr Deol I guess too. How long did it take you to get everything done and get surgery??

Hello, thanks for the reply, do you have aftercare lined up? Do you know about insurance coverage if you need immediate care, is it covered in most cases? I am from Michigan and would not be able to get back to Monterrey quickly. There are doctors about 3-5 hrs. away in my state. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for all the great information. Kasey, most lap band surgeries in Mexico are about 8,000-9,200. Dr. Rumbaut is 10,600 in Monterrey. I am considering Dr. Sanchez, also in Monterrey, and his cost is 8,000-8500. Both are good I have heard.

Hello, I am from Michigan, near Traverse City. I am looking at Dr. Deol, and Dr. Bhesania in Port Huron. I don't know if I have the 12 consecutive months of a supervised weight lose plan Blue Cross/ BS wants so I don't know if my internist will help me get insurance to pay. I am ready to go to Dr. Kuri or Dr. Rumbaut or Dr. Sanchez in Mexico. I am hoping for follow up care with Dr. Deol or Dr. Pleatman for fills but don't know if they will take me if I go to Mexico. Any advice???

Hi, I am new to this. I am thinking about Barix clinics as well. Who was physician you didn't like? I am thinking about going to Port Huron with Dr. Bhesiania, have you heard of him?
