Questions about MMJ use.
ChubRub replied to beaglegirl2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like MMJ is the better alternative to benzos. I would talk to your psych about making the switch, and let them know about your WLS concerns as well. Maybe get a plan in place for how long it's safe to be on the benzos and then wean off? If your nurse isn't on board, maybe you can talk directly to your surgeon about it? -
Questions about MMJ use.

What is the reason you take it, and how have you felt since you've been off it for a few months? If you are doing well without it, I would be hesitant to add it back in (and not b/c it's MMJ, I would say this with any rx,, OTC, even caffeine, soda, etc). So it all depends on why you think you need it, and what symptoms it helps with, and if those symptoms have been under control without it. -
Tell me about your initial consultation

The timeline was definitely exciting! It got a little stressful the last week, b/c the hospital added a last minute requirement of a pulmonary function tests, but my surgeon's office was on top of it, and got me in to see a pulmonologist right away. As for the other people in my class....I never saw them again after that first day! LOL!! -
Tell me about your initial consultation

Mine started as a class with 4 or 5 other patients and a nurse who showed a power point, and went over insurance requirements, pre-op testing, and explained the difference between RNY and Sleeve surgeries, After the group session, we were called back individually to meet with the surgeon and nutritionist (got weighed, went over med history, etc). Was given a list of tests to get completed by the next visit, and I was off to the races! The staff was great and kept me very organized. My initial consult was in Oct, and I had my surgery in Dec. I was lucky to be able to get all of my tests done quickly, which is how I was able to have surgery so fast. -
Agreed! You are both so radiant!!!

AHHHHH-Mazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How amazing is this???? You both look so radiant!!! So thrilled you got to meet up in person!

I went with the bypass because I had GERD, and I didn't want it to get worse with the sleeve. A bonus was that the GERD actually went away after my bypass. It's strange not to carry TUMS in my purse anymore! If you have GERD, definitely get the bypass. If not, then it just comes down to your personal choice. Watch the youtube videos, do your research, and see if your surgeon leans one way or the other. Good luck!!

Getting ready to have this surgery
ChubRub replied to Laurie Rohrer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I almost feel guilty for admitting how easy it was for me to lose weight after the surgery. Yes, I followed the rules, but my pouch did most of the work for me. The first year is when your pouch (or sleeve) is the most restrictive, so take advantage of it!! 2 1/2 years out, I can eat a lot more now, so I have to be more strict with myself, but it's still way easier than pre-WLS. So follow the rules, and you will do great!!! -
I 100% blame myself for eating my way to morbid obesity, but even though I was ashamed of myself I still felt that I deserved to feel better, and WLS was the solution for me. I still remember the excitement of making my first appointment, and then the excitement of telling my husband about it. It truly was a whirlwind, and I can't believe it was 2 1/2 years ago. Best thing I ever did!!!!

My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner! WLS has changed my life and the lives of my family, as I'm a better mother and wife as a result of being healthy!

I recall my nurse telling me that in beginning it's impossible to get all of your protein in the beginning b/c the intake is so small. Like others said, just keep sipping to stay hydrated. Good luck!!!

I'm struggling losing weight
ChubRub replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hang in there! Like you said, it's pretty much impossible not to lose weight on 600 calories per day. It could be hormones, water retention, etc, that's making it appear that you aren't losing. Right now, the scale owes you, and it will come with a big WOOSH!! (possible after a day or 2 of peeing your brains out!) Just keep doing what you are doing! Log your food and stick to your plan! -
Thought it might be fun to get some recommendations for new grocery items to add to my shopping list. Spices, grab n go items, anything really. I’ll add a couple of my new faves below!

Granted your faces are blurred, but based on everything that is visible in the pic, it looks like 3 teenagers!!! Looking good!!!

Looking for some opinions on this...

Go for the tummy tuck!!! It will change your life! LOL! Seriously!! You can usually package in the boobs too, for a full "mommy makeover" much cheaper than doing the procedures separately!! Best thing I ever did for myself (next to WLS of course)!! -
Definitely get the muscle repair!!!! I love my fake abs!! LOL!!!

This is so simple, yet so ingenious at the same time! Adding this to my meal routine! -
My guess is that nobody will really notice what you eat or don't eat. I think we tend to be more self-conscious about it, thinking people are watching or judging us, when they are just focused on their own meal. I had lunch with a friend today, and I have no idea whether or not she finished her meal. I had an ahi tuna appetizer, ate all the tuna, and left the greens and slaw on the plate. No biggie if I hadn't been able to finish the tuna. In the beginning, I would order salads, b/c it's easy to eat the protein, leave a bunch of lettuce behind, and if anyone noticed, I would just joke that they gave me way too much lettuce. Nobody ever noticed though! So now, I just get what I want, and don't worry about it! Good luck, and please report back on how you made out!

Looking good! Your freckles are closer together now, not stretched out anymore! Also, I can't even find your lap scars! Impressive! Enjoy the cruise!

You will be pleasantly surprised to find that many foods you currently crave will be unappealing after WLS. I was shocked, but it's true! Just stick to your plan, and you will do great!
