  1. I’m 21 months post RNY- I was 245 when I started- got down to 155 and started grazing while at work. I just had an appt this morning and I’m going to start topiramate tomorrow. My doctor said a lot of wls patients will eventually need an appetite suppressant whether it’s one year or 10 years down the line. You do what’s best FOR YOU. Nobody else can tell you what’s going to work for you.

    Four weeks post op RNY

Thank you everyone! I do tend to compare myself to others and have been asked by several people if I’ve lost weight, which makes me feel like nobody can even see a difference yet. It just hurts and I was feeling like a failure.. but you’re all right and thank you for helping me to realize that!
  3. When I had surgery on October 10 I weighed in at 235. I’m now four weeks post op and my weight is 218. I was under the assumption that I would lose more/faster by having RNY over VSG.. is my weight loss ‘normal’.. should I be losing faster? This weekend im allowed to start move from basic walking to real exercise.. I’m hoping that will help.
  4. Hey! First off, good luck surgery. I had RNY on October 10th. I was in the hospital for 1 night. Within an hour of being back to my room I was up and walking the unit. I walked every hour on the hour during the day and twice at night. My pain was managed solely by Tylenol while in the hospital. They sent me home with Vicodin but I never needed to use it nor did I even need the Tylenol. While in the hospital I found it hard to drink but I pushed through because I knew that I had to. With every tiny sip, I could feel air bubbles working their way up. I had a decent amount of gas pain but manageable by walking. It never came out the back end lol always came out in burps! I wasn’t so much hungry but my brain was telling me that i missed eating food if that makes sense.. so I ate a jello and some broth for breakfast the following day. Since surgery I can’t complain. I do find it hard to get my 64oz in. I tap out at 40-45. I’m getting there though. my stomach at this stage is full after 1/4 cup of food. I’m losing weight slower than most but I get to start exercising next week so hopefully that helps to pick it up.

    Smart Scales

I went to my two week post op appointment yesterday and was disappointed because my scale at home is off by 4lbs. When I stepped on the scale at the office it showed that I was 4lbs heavier than I thought I was. Id like to buy a smart scale because I’ve heard they’re more calibrated and work well with smart phones. Any recommendations? I have an iPhone and an Apple Watch that i would like to link it to.

    Advice needed

Lucky you. Im 13 days post op and I got my period the night before surgery (boy was that horrific the day of) and it hasn’t let up yet. I have an iud and my period NEVER lasts longer than two days. I’m nearing the end of the 5 year limit for my iud (December) so that could be playing a role in this as well, beside the fact that my body went through a trauma.

    Are you VSG to RNY?

I’ve been doing great since the day of surgery. Within one hour post op I was up and moving /getting in all of my liquids and I haven’t stopped. I’ve handled every stage of food really well so far. My only issue is my multivitamin. I went the chewable route and pre op I loved the taste when I tried them and now I absolutely hate them. I’m also noticing that I hate certain flavors of my protein shakes even though I liked them before.

    Gas Pains

I just had surgery yesterday and I was released today. Every time that I take a sip of water I feel a sharp pain in my chest and then air bubbles but I can get the air to come out by burping or passing gas. Any suggestions? I know walking is good for it, but any OTHER Suggestions?

    FINALLY on the losers bench!

I was pretty out of it. I came out of surgery at 1030 and was in my room by 1130.. so I woke up rather quickly but then kept dozing off after they brought me to my room. I slept from 1130- 4.
  12. Surgery was earlier today. The pain was somewhat intense after waking up, but it’s being well managed now! I just went for my first walk around the unit and let out some burps. No gas is coming out the other end yet. Keeping ice chips down, and not sure when I’ll move to medicine cups of water but hopefully soon!
  13. Me! Since April 1st I was on track to have VSG but at my consult with my surgeon on Sept 30th he tells me that I was switched to RNY because of my acid reflux. Nobody told me and I was completely thrown for a loop. I had TEN days to digest that news 😂 it’s for the best though and although the time line for eating post op is different, that is all I’ve really noticed.
  14. I started this journey on April 1st. I had to jump through so many hoops.. first an EGD, then a home sleep study, then an in lab sleep study, then 30 days on my cpap machine. My surgery is finally coming- TWO DAYS FROM NOW!! October 10th is my day 😊
