Scared to do soft food because I am stuck on a plateau
PlanetHopper replied to KS Mermaid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! That's awesome. It could have been any of those things you listed -
Are you sure? Did your surgeon say that hair loss is a possible side effect? I have had other surgeries (removal of a tumor from my back, various oral surgeries) and those did not result in hair loss. Surgery in general does not cause hair loss. The type of surgery does matter. I do not believe this is true. I have been under anesthesia more times than I can count due to various issues and I have never had hair loss until the VSG. As stated above, I have also had multiple surgeries and never experienced hair loss with any of them except VSG.

When do you get to drink instead of sip?
PlanetHopper replied to Ling82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I think I started taking swallows around 2 months post-op. I am now almost 4 months post-op and I can take a swallow, but not a BIG swallow. -
I agree with this. I promise you in the long run you will be happy you took them

Scared to do soft food because I am stuck on a plateau
PlanetHopper replied to KS Mermaid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please please please do not deprive yourself of food. It can actually make the stall last even longer. Having a stall around 2-3 weeks is very normal and it happens to most people. Please continue to follow your Surgeons plan and I promise you the weight will come off. -
Going back to work tomorrow and I’m scared
PlanetHopper replied to CammyC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do understand your situation. I am also an essential worker. I am an ABA therapist for children with Autism and other developmental disorders. I go into their homes to conduct therapy. The best suggestion is to make sure you do all the things the CDC recommends, such as frequent hand washing, ect. I wish you and your family the best. -
How often do you weigh?
PlanetHopper replied to JRT Mom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is how I started out as well. However, I do sometimes weigh myself twice a week. -
So I started reading your post, and this was the first thing I noticed. I had to stop and start responding right away. This is a RED FLAG. This decision was not about him, it was for you. A lot of people who are uninformed about the surgery say this. Every person that has ever had bariatric surgery knows that it isn't true. I am very sorry to hear that he does not support you with your decision. I hope you remember that this decision wasn't about him. The fact that he continues to demand an explanation of how this will benefit him is a bad sign. I am very proud of you for doing what is best for you. I hope you continue with doing so because your life isn't about anyone but you and thus you should try your best to make decisions that result in your own happiness even if it means leaving people behind. ❤️

Im scared of gaining weight through this crisis
PlanetHopper replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am in the same boat. I have been diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder with reoccurring episodes. It's a lifelong struggle for me. I also share a fear of gaining weight during this time. My gym is closed and it's hard for me to go on walks for longer than 15 minutes due to chronic back pain. I am just doing the best I can and trying to stay away from carbs. -
I'm a little afraid of cutting my hair short, to be honest. I have very curly hair and it has taken me a long time to get to its current length. At the same time, it may look better shorter because of all the thinning but I'm too afraid to find out.
-
I don't think you're vain! I am sharing the same experience as you, except I'm one month behind you. My shedding is still happening. Hopefully, they are back soon so they can help us!
-
Aw, that's pretty great that you were one of the lucky ones. I know everyone is different. I have very curly hair so there are many ways I can make it look like it did before all the shedding. However, if I wear my hair like I use to, it's definitely noticeable.
-
That is what I had thought. I starting excess shedding at 2 months post-op. My hair was SUPER healthy be4 the surgery. It's never been chemically changed or processed. When did your hair stop excess shedding and when did it start?
-
It is a good idea to get your blood checked every so often to ensure you are not deficient. I had full bloodwork done last month and everything came back perfect, even my MA (medical assistant) was surprised by how good it was. However, I still have really bad hair thinning. I am not sure how to make it slow down.
-
That's so odd. I eat about 3 oz a meal on average. When I was eating closer to 5 oz, I struggled with vomiting.
-
I brought a book, my phone, my Chromebook, tampoons, my headscarf, ect. To be honest, I didn't use any of it because I was in a lot of pain. However, you may experience a lower level of pain than I did, so I would recommend bringing something that can occupy your time. I do also recommend bringing your own tampoons/pads just in case you start your period.
-
I was given a specific number for being only 3 months post-op. I have been advised to stay under 30 g of TOTAL carbs a day. Someone else did mention that each program can vary greatly though. I am in a program that is very strict on carbs.

December 2019 Sleevers, how are you doing? What’s your stats?
PlanetHopper replied to smb123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's great to see how everyone is doing. I am one of the few Sleever's that have experienced dumping syndrome. I have had 3 episodes in the past 3 weeks or so. I am trying to do better by eating less and eating slower. With regard to my stats, I had surgery on 12/9/19 and I have lost 34.3 lbs since having surgery. I have lost 43.6 pounds overall. I am currently 163.2 pounds. I am having the most "issue" with my hair loss. I have very curly hair and it makes me very sad to see it falling out in clumps. I know there is nothing I can do about it, especially since my labs were perfect. Still makes me sad though. -

Hey! I just wanted to say because you are my surgery date twin! I am so glad to hear that you are making progress! Keep up the great work! -
The majority of people do have increased shedding. Women are more likely to encounter hair loss than men. I have 3c curly hair. Before the surgery, my hair was VERY healthy. I have never dyed or permed my hair. After the surgery, I started to experience increased hair shedding at around 1.5-2 months post-op. I am now 3 months post-op. I have been told that will probably stop around 9 months. My hair DOES come out in large amounts during each wash day. My most recent labs were excellent, so good that even my Doctor was surprised by my numbers. Thus, it has nothing to do with my nutrients. I hope this doesn't scare you away from having the surgery but I do want to be honest with you so that you know what can happen.

Hey there! I am sorry that I am so late to this post. I did have the sleeve surgery done robotically. I really think that my incisions are much smaller than people who did not get the surgery robotically. With regard to recovery, I can't really say if my recovery was easier based on having robotic surgery. I can say that it does give the surgeon a better range of motion and decreases the risk of organ trauma.

Severe Pain Before and After Vomiting
PlanetHopper posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does anyone experience SEVERE pain before and after vomiting? I would like to know if this happens to anyone else that is more than 4 weeks post-op. The first time this happened at 10 weeks post-op, I thought I had a leak or a rupture. I had VSG and I do not experience dumping syndrome. I was eating peanuts and then choked. I then starting experiencing EXTREME pain. I didn't know what was happening and I was in so much pain, I went to the ER and then vomit while I was there. I again experienced the horrible pain and vomiting today (11 weeks post-op) Unfortunately, I have PCS'ed (military move) away from my surgeon and I don't see my new surgeon until Wednesday. I will definitely be telling them about this but I am looking for some insight. -

Thank you for your insight. I will be sure to explain each instance and see what they say -
Severe Pain Before and After Vomiting
PlanetHopper replied to PlanetHopper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hm, maybe that was the reason. I did cough really hard before the pain started though. I will steer clear from them for now until I hear what this new surgeon has to say about it. -
How are my fellow December surgeries doing?
PlanetHopper replied to lys's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also feel like I have no energy. My surgery was December 9th so I am 7 weeks post-op today. I currently do not have a job and I take all my vitamins every day. I've gone back to taking naps just about every day. I also have a headache just about every day. I usually eat around 600 calories per day. I've lost 25.5 pounds since surgery. I know to some people that may not seem like a lot but I had a 37 BMI day of surgery. If anyone has any suggestions for boosting my energy or stopping these headaches, please let me know
