5 month post op update
PlanetHopper replied to Soon2bSleeved12/2019's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! This is wonderful news. -
Well, I do have loose skin on my thighs and stomach. My butt is also kinda saggy now. I am sure it has an impact on dating but I am already married. Why do you feel like that it prevents you from dating?
-
It doesn't look great that is for sure. If your doctor said it's up to you, do what you think is best based on pain level, being uncomfortable, ect.

9 months check in - in maintenance - feeling amazing
PlanetHopper replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is true. I really need to work on that. You are right. I didn't realize how low my BMI is. How can I measure body fat percentage? -
Are 300 calories a day typical postop?

I had the sleeve so that's probably the first difference. Another difference is that people with "lower" BMI's compared to those with higher BMI's on surgery day lose their weight slower. I have also heard from research that the effectiveness of the surgery is related to genetics. Edit: I now wish I had the bypass -

PlanetHopper replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
that's awesome. I feel like I have had to work for every pound. I excercise 3-5 times a week and my weight loss is pretty slow, averaging 6-8 lbs a month -

PlanetHopper replied to over65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I went back to look (I stopped logging my food a while ago). I was eating around 600 calories on average at 3 months. Thank you for pointing that out. Maybe if I was eating lower calories then I would be at goal by now. -
Losing my hair! Anyone else, and what can help??
PlanetHopper replied to IAmGrace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is very normal! I have long, very curly hair and it was devastating to watch HUGE amounts of hair fall out. I had excess shedding from 2-5 months post-op. I promise you it will slow down eventually. Some people decide to cut their hair short to decrease the amount of shedding that is seen. The longer your hair is, the more dramatic the hair fall looks. Cutting your hair shorter can also make it appear to have more volume. -
I am also looking for one so if anyone has suggestions on which one is best, I would love to know.

Congratulations! In your photo, you don't seem to have any loose skin. I would love to know what kind of exercise you do. -
That is fantastic! Congratulations and welcome to the journey.

Yes, this is typical. I did not start eating 400 calories until around 3 months post-op. You are doing great! -
What's healthy range for Carbs after WLS?
PlanetHopper replied to Puffy-no-more's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told not to eat more than 20 g of carbs when I was around 3 months post-op. In my program, I am not supposed to eat bread, rice, potato, pasta, or sweets. I do sometimes eat low carb versions of the things on that list. However, I have never been restricted from vegetables and fruit that can sometimes be high in carbs. At the same time though, I usually can't fit protein and a lot of fruits and vegetables so I usually choose the protein first. -
Did you keep surgery a secret? What did you tell people?
PlanetHopper replied to FinallyLosingIt20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my husband and two of my friends. No one else knows. Although my family has noticed that I have lost weight, I simply told them that I have switched to a low-carb lifestyle with exercise. It's really a very personal decision on who you want to tell or if you don't want to tell anyone. -
My Journey and Fighting Insurance Issues
PlanetHopper replied to FinallyLosingIt20's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
wow! that's incredible. I'm so glad your doctor advocated for you and that you chronic pain has decreased -
My excess shedding started at 2 months and has slowed down now that I am around 5.5 months post-OP. I have heard that it usually grows back almost to the way it was.

Pre-Op Liquids Only. I am SO HUNGRY!!!!
PlanetHopper replied to pmh22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was really bad. I started to have second thoughts about getting the surgery. I sat in the hospital parking lot for 10 minutes or more. I dont regret going through with it. It was a great decision. -
Advice needed - VSG Failure
PlanetHopper replied to rulooking4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For sure, I am glad that I was able to direct you to a positive resource I have only just recently found the podcast. There are not a ton of episodes but I really loved listening to them. Don't worry, I don't think you will dwindle into nothingness , but definitely see what your doctor says. I have been one of the people that has had to really fight for weight to come off :(, but its still worth it. -
I can only say that other people have told me it does work. I have not tried it.

My Journey and Fighting Insurance Issues
PlanetHopper replied to FinallyLosingIt20's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow! You went through a lot and I want to say congratulations on fighting for your health! You didn't give up no matter what. I really, REALLY hope the surgery scheduled in July does not fall through. I think you have made a great plan by keeping the other surgeon an option just in case. I wish you the best with your surgery. -
The opposite. I went through a civilian bariatric program. I sent you a message
-
Hey there, I did. I was approved and has VSG on 12/9/19. Are you going through a military bariatric program or a civilian bariatric program? I believe this may make a huge difference. I moved away to a different state and no longer see my surgeon for follow ups. I see a medical assistant from a bariatric program run by the military hospital. I am sure that if I would have moved here before the surgery, the program would not have allowed me to do it. My comorbidities were major depressive disorder and chronic back pain.
