For those of you making this Turkey day Bird - I did a little research and found something i have not seen before, As a chef and graduate of Johnson and Whales and also a engineer this amazes me! - So i start brine all the Turkeys for Thursday and notice this little note on the wrapper. "Enhanced Turkey" So i went to the website to see what the F#$ck this means. Since i am trying to stay chemical free and free of sugar the hunt was on. Bottom line Even a Farm Raised Fresh Turkey from Whole Foods is bully Poop - The food industry has once again added hidden stuff What Is Enhanced Meat? For the purposes of this discussion, enhanced meat can be defined as Regular meat can be defined as fresh, whole muscle meat that has not been injected or marinated. There’s really nothing sinister about enhanced meat. The self-basted Butterball turkey that you cook at Thanksgiving is an enhanced meat. When you brine chicken overnight in your refrigerator, you’re making enhanced meat. The problem isn’t so much enhanced meat as a concept, but that in some parts of the country it’s becoming more difficult to buy certain cuts of meat that have not been enhanced—and conventional, non-enhanced meat is what most barbecue enthusiasts are looking for. Fresh pork is the best example of this trend. In some supermarkets, most fresh pork products, including spare and loin back ribs, butts, picnics, and loins, are available only as an enhanced pork product—non-enhanced versions of these same cuts are not available. Fresh meat products that have been cured, injected, or marinated for convenience or to change the flavor characteristics of the meat are not the subject of this article. The corned beef brisket that you boil on St. Patrick’s Day is an enhanced meat product that contains a curing agent, but no one would mistake it for a regular brisket. Likewise, a whole chicken pre-marinated in Italian seasoning would not be confused with a regular chicken. In both cases, a non-enhanced version of brisket and chicken are available to consumers. How Is Meat Enhanced? Whole muscle meat is passed through a machine that injects the meat with a liquid solution. These computer-controlled devices have one or more injection heads containing many fine needles that pierce the meat. Complex pressure controls, filters, flexible needle mounts, and separate shut-off controls for each needle allow the solution to be injected evenly throughout the entire cut of meat, even those containing bones. The meat may be weighed before and after injection to determine the percentage of solution added to the meat by weight.

Wow - Ok i went thru this with a heart surgery - Hope this helps - That seems insane in price since i paid 25k cash for both doctor and hospital in Naples Florida which is grossly over priced. The hospital put me down as a outpatient procedure so i capped my limit at 15,000 my bill was 225,000 1. Drive down to the hospital and see the billing department in person, also go to your doctor and get them to send the records. You buy law are also entitled to a copy. 2. Send a letter saying pretty much working on it and the records are coming - 3. The phone is a waste of time, So his email. You need to do it in writting and send delivery confirmation 4. I still could not get anywhere so i took all the parties to court, Hospital and Insurance company. Guess what the judge instructed them to handle this matter ASAP and got me out of it.

VSG Two Weeks Post-Op Suggestions
AJ Tylo replied to InterceptorNYC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes this place is a key to cruising thru the journey - For example both proteins below are on the smoker however both are brine in both and both are rubbed with healthy natural ingredients - Flax seed, Nuts, Herbs, Avocado Oil. NO fat butter No carbs No sugar, NO sauce! This will feed me for well over a month and is easy for me to do, In the past we would load these up with sugars and Salts and wipe them out on a Sunday - Now it is just one of the staples I prep for easy food eating -
Well into my pre op liquid diet
AJ Tylo replied to jessrunge6's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No good thing is given you have to earn it - The liquid diet sucks - Nobody is going to tell you it does not, you also are experiencing the head games begining. Chill stay focused and get thru hell week, Trust me the reward is great and the journey to being happy and healthy is well worth one week of hell. Sleep, Sex, Movies, Friends use all the tools you can around you to get thru this week. Only 3 more to go and if done right you can sleep half of it away. Good luck dont give up and you got this -

VSG Two Weeks Post-Op Suggestions
AJ Tylo replied to InterceptorNYC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes I am going to go with the flow and say stay liquid however I did not after two weeks I slowly and I mean slowly got a little more then liquids 1. When did you move to soft foods? - Assuming you mean any food after liquid i was 16 days out before i even tried it, I am a chef so i knew my plan, I made very very light broths and added just a Tad of Veggies to them. I then Nutra Bullet them to they were about 95% liquid. I did this for well over a week, I had info from My brother who did the surgery before me, So he warned me not to go to fast. I stayed on pureed and blended foods for the first month. 2. Favorite was a lentil veggie broth - 3. How to integrate new foods - I slowly over the first 5 weeks brought in veggies and proteins, Some just are not going to work, For example a group of us, including myself can not do chicken. Find very very very soft proteins like fish, shellfish, and ground meats like Turkey - Be careful i can tell you that food you buy is often treated and preserved, For example if you buy shrimp rinse them big time they have lots of salts and preservatives. If you can and you dont have to be a chef do your own meats. For example today i have a Large Pork Shoulder and Turkey on the Smoker all day. I know exactly what is on it and what is in it. When done I will vacuum seal small amounts for myself to eat, I also will grind up some Turkey and Pork into a hamburger meat. I have a meat grinder but any food processor will do. This ensures you know what you are eating. Sugar can raise hell and most cheeses, processed meats and Deli Meats contain tons of sugar and salts. Stay clear of these 3 for sure Rough on the incision during healing and generally not good for you There are three classes of chemical preservatives commonly used in foods: Benzoates (such as sodium benzoate) Nitrites (such as sodium nitrite) Sulphites (such as sulphur dioxide). It is almost impossible to buy pre packaged protien, Including the Meat counter and Seafood counter that is not treated with one above. However a good rinse or brine will remove most of it Suggestions Simple Take your time, Try not to rush into the next phases and transitions into them, Its a long journey and if you do mess up you get punished thru pain, sick, Dumping, We all have been punished for our mistakes, but good planning is the key. Also this place is loaded with lists and ideas on good foods to eat. -
RNY scheduled for Dec 4. Day 4 of liquid diet...
AJ Tylo replied to fashionista2000's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Pureee some stuff and Stop thinking about foods - The first week is is rough and No matter what they say Broth Sucks. Try and sleep and just get thru it - Once the surgery is done the food cravings hunger ends, But the mind games start, Nobody here will say the week of liquids was easy - No it was not - You can pureee soup to the liquid form to help but really JUST GO TO BED, Sleep it off - Its only a week and then you have a tool that will make your life healthy and happy - -
yes this dumb ass did not due that and was FUBARED - Glad its helping and the reason i come here is to help those who are smarter then me and want to get prepared, But the best decision i ever made and so close to closing in Have a good ride and F@#ck Food

Can't handle protein shakes
AJ Tylo replied to bigdaddyff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree make your own light ones real light ones For example 3 oz Almond Milk - 1/2 scoop Protien Powder - a flavor (5 blueberrys) or a teaspoon of Peanut butter - Then add ice and blend it in a nutra bullet. Really sip it slow - -
F#$ck FOOD = I would just lay low and stay active and get it done - It is a great tool and you will be so happy
