    My ugly truth about WLS

I am sorry this is turning into a love/hate experience for you. Unfortunately from the time we are children we have gathered around food at all social and family functions. It's a bond created from generation to generation centered around food. I haven't experienced anything that negative yet. But I constantly get invited to dinners celebrating anything from birthdays to anniversaries. It kinda sucks. I haven't ordered anything for myself at a restaurant since surgery. I generally eat off my husbands plate but when he's not around I just sit there and drink water and assure everyone I'm ok and I'm not starving as they suspect. Usually I've already chugged a protein shake in the parking lot of the restaurant in anticipation of my situation. My bestfriend tells me all the time that I've changed but I keep reminding her I haven't changed me, just my eating habits and we can bond over something other than food. I've also had to break that food bond with my husband and mother. It's been hard but they are coming around. I just try to be as open about my needs to them as I can so they can understand. I hope you find the support you need. It makes this journey so much easier.

    I don't like my Bariatric Team :S

I have a pretty ruthless dietitian. He tells me to stop eating or drinking a certain item all the time. I've been scolded for eating a banana as well. Lol. But I try not to take it personally or see it as a stab at me but rather an aggressive coach in my corner who wants me to succeed as much as i do. After all if i could have done this all on my own, I wouldn't have needed surgery in the first place. As for all the tests that come with, it wasn't my doctor that demanded all these hoops, it was the damn insurance companies. Like Recidivist above said, it's a box that needs to be checked.

    Water intake and outflow

Same thing going on here too. I'd pee 10 to 15 times a day before surgery. Now I'm usually about 4 to 5 times a day with about 80 ounces of water a day. I dont feel like I'm retaining water either but there's no way I'm peeing out the amount I'm taking in. I'm also in a weight loss stall. It started over a week ago. Am I doing this all wrong?

That was the hardest part for me in the liquid diet. Just didnt feel normal. Felt like I was starving, my pee was weird, my insides felt weird. I even convinced myself I smelled different. It can play some serious mind games with you for sure. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Am I doing this all wrong?

They gave me those one ounce cups after surgery and told me to drink 3 ounces of water and 2 ounces of protein shakes in one hour. That lasted about 1 day for me. I told the husband just give me a normal 8 ounce protein drink and a normal cup of water. I drink normal. I cant chug water like i used to but I don't sip it either. I put away 32 ounces of water in about 30 minutes. I also felt hungry while on the liquid diet. My mom reminded me that it is head hunger not stomach hunger. So every time I thought I felt hungry, I would tell myself I was thirsty instead. You'll feel more human again once you start solids. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. I thought about keeping it a secret but I figured that would be too difficult. I'm a very private person but I decided to tell everyone my plan months in advance. I've had nothing but super positive support from family and co-workers. I have those who want to have it done approach me all the time with questions and curiosity. The first week or two after surgery was difficult for me psychologically. It's nice to talk about it with other people. Those who had surgery prior to me were helpful and always there to give me advice. I'm not one who really cares about what others opinions are of me. I am a very honest person and I have worked with the same people for 16 years so I knew when the time came and questions would be asked, I didn't want to put myself in a situation where I would lie or blind side them with the truth. Glad you're doing well. My energy level is lacking too but dr said that should come back. I'm still on soft foods. I do ok with shredded chicken. I use chicken tenderloins instead of whole breast. They are so much softer when baked. Tried beef stew last night. It was so good. That's the first red meat I have been able to handle. Makes a difference when it's tender. As for meat, I can't eat it by itself. I have to have something with it. Gravy, sauce, a super soft vegetable (meat lube). It helps chew up the meat into that apple sauce texture that we're supposed to. As far as getting full, I've only felt that once and that was last night with the beef stew. I typically eat 2 to 3 ounces at a time but last night I had 4 and it was too much. I was miserable for about 30 minutes. I also supplement 1 protein shake a day. I drink a premier with 30 grams of protein which just barely puts me over 60 grams each day. I also force myself to walk 30 minutes a day whether I want to or not. I am doing pretty good. Energy is lacking but I'm sticking with the program. Dr said energy should come back soon. Lost 17 pounds my first two weeks so I feeling excited about that. I started back at work today and I definitely feel beat. So glad to have food though. Even tiny amounts is so much better than protein all day. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Yikes. Did u count how many bites before the upchucking started? Did u feel full? Just trying to see what to expect. I'm not a graceful puker. It comes out of every orifice in my face in a Linda Blair fashion. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Eating after wls

I also had surgery on 9/24. I'm on a liquid diet for two weeks. I cannot wait to move on to pureed and/or soft foods. Weirdest thing. I'm craving cottage cheese and chicken livers. Have no idea what that's about. But I'm also interested in how others would progress to food as quick as 1 week. Seems a little fast but I'm guessing your body will tell you if it's time or not. Good luck. Do report back. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Crystal light is part of my clear liquid diet. I can have all flavors. I can even have sugar free koolaid. My favorite is grape. I freeze it and make a grape slushy and eat it with a spoon. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Anytime. I'm not struggling with protein but I am struggling with water intake. 64oz is the bare minimum my dr wants me to drink every day. I did that yesterday and I felt so dehydrated. So I have incorporated 16 oz extra liquids today. Hopefully I won't feel so dried out tomorrow morning. I do like the crystal light lemonade. Not having any issues with it and I haven't had to take a nausea pill today. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Fears & thoughts

I just had surgery yesterday. I remember being on operating table and thinking if it was too late to back out. I went through with it. The hardest day was the first day. I came home today and honestly I've only taken 2 pain pills today and 2 phenergan. I am drinking my 1 ounce water and shakes every hour and in the next 30 minutes I'll have my 64oz in. I was afraid but I know this surgery is more important than my fears. I hope it all works out for u. Just follow your doctor's instructions to the T. Good luck sweetheart!
