  1. My surgery is scheduled for the 17th. I am on the pre op liquids (blah). I am tired, and I am starting to think...what if I wake up with this band in my body and start panicking and wanting it out. Of course I'm gonna be sore, not feeling well and blaming this contraption for my agony, BUT what if I really trip out?! Has anyone tripped out after surgery, even for a little while, when they realized they had this thing in their body? Be honest. That is what I'm most worried about. I already have panic attacks (for my whole life and am being treated for them) and when I'm malnourished and stressed, they slam me. I don't want to have surgery and then a breakdown. Help, stories.
  2. Can I add you as a friend? I see your posts and they are very positive and I could really use that right now and after my surgery. Stephanie

Thank you to everyone. I feel uplifted by your responses.

    I feel so alone

I'm sorry to hear about you losing your friend. I fear I will lose my only friend also. She has already made the comment that if I end up smaller than her, she'll be mad. She tried to laugh it off, but I know her and I know she's not joking. I'm also angry with myself cause I'm letting other peoples' reactions make me question my decision. I'm gonna go through with it, its just now, I have a question mark in the back of my head.

    Isopure?

I went to GNC this evening and was asking about protein powders and shakes that would be best for WLS and the lady told me that most people that have had WLS come in and say their docs tell them to get Isopure. It was on sale...a case of 12 for $36, so I grabbed up a case of blue raspberry. Do alot of ya'll use this for your post op liquid diet, and what is your take on the raspberry taste if you've had it?

Anyone else having problems with the site?

I'm having the same problem too, its getting on my nerves. I just go back and click until it opens the thread I want to read.
  10. Well, I went for my first consultation today and I got my date.....July 17th, two weeks from today! I'm gonna be a July Butterfly! I was so scared there would be some reason that the surgeon would say no, but now that he has said yes and set the date, I'm scared to death! I know I'm doing the right thing for my health, its just that I've never had surgery before so I guess you could say fear of the unknown. I've been on here for a month now and I have read almost everything I possibly can so I have ALOT more knowledge than I would have, so that gives me comfort and knowing I'm not alone is really nice. I'll definitely be on here as soon as I can after surgery to update (and of course I'll be on here religiously everyday until then). Thanks to everyone who shares their stories and experiences!

    Psychiatric Medication

I've read this thread and little bits and peices pertain to me, but I'm gonna put myself out there and tell my story briefly....I was diagnosed bipolar in Oct 2005 because I had yet another breakdown, the worst of my adult life. My son started kindergarten and I lost it. My diagnosis has since been changed to borderline personality, major depression, and panic disorder, I have had BAD panic attacks since chilhood. Anyway, since then I have been taking Geodon, Wellbutrin, Klonopin, and Trazodone. Does anyone here take these or any combination of these CURRENTLY? I'm just wondering if my surgeon will think it is ok to stay on them. I talked to my psych and her only concern was the Geodon because you are supposed to eat 500 calories with it for it to work effectively. What she doesn't know is that I never eat with it cause if I do, I pass out from exhaustion. I feel it still works just fine for me and I'm better off with it than without it. If anyone reads this and can give me advice based on their experience, I'd appreciate the input. Thanks

    Anyone extra-emotional??

Hi luigismama, I am not yet banded, but I have seen alot of people asking similar questions and the answers are mostly explaining that our fat cells hold estrogen, so as we shed the fat, the estrogen in our bodies gets released causing this roller coaster of emotions. Hope that helped explain a little, I'm sure someone else can explain it better though. Good luck on your journey and congratulations!
  15. Hi! It's good to have folks that are walking in your shoes, especially at the same time. Keep in touch and we can swap stories back and forth.

    1st appt

Well, I have officially been scheduled for my initial visit with my surgeon for July 3rd. I have ALL my paper work in that he needs. :blushing: Now, my question is...what do I expect at this visit? Is there anyone new enough at this to remember how their appt went and what kind of stuff you discussed? Thanks, Stephanie

Oh ya, and Hottie, congratulations!

    1st appt

Ya, I've done everything and turned everything in that they need. I'm done on my end when it comes to that. I think I'm basically gonna find out what HE wants from me and maybe he'll tell me a few things I don't know. I'm just nervous, I mean, what if he schedules me for testing, puts me on the liver diet and throws a surgery date at me?! That's what I'm worried about. No more surrealness after that. It will be balls to the wall and that excites me and terrifies me at the same time.:thumbs_up:

    date scheduled

Congratulations on your surgery! From what I hear on this site, you should be just fine to go back to work in a month. Good luck!

    Cigarrettes anyone???

Everyone is right about why you need to quit. MY Dr won't operate unless its all out of my system. I'm 2 days smoke free and I feel like I want to die, BUT, I am chewing on straws and gum and hoping I will wake up one day SOON and won't have the urge. Also, I know it is hard when you are surrounded by people who aren't supportive, I actually have a "friend" right now who thinks its funny that I'm struggling and blows smoke in my face. I've told her not to come around me for at least 2 weeks, she thinks I'm being a witch, but I don't care. I need this surgery!

    Emotions???

I would like to ask everyone a question...I know that basically all of us have a story behind our weight...abuse, loss, emotions, etc. My question to you is after you were banded and lost significant weight, did anyone find themselves having to deal with pent up issues that came back up out of nowhere? I am not yet banded, but have a lot of issues that I know I hold down and I'm hoping they don't overwhelm me all at once if ever.

    Videotaped my first fill

That was awesome that you put this video on here to help those of us that haven't gone through it yet know what to expect. I had no idea that there was that much mushing and gouging involved, luckily I have no problem with needles, but I will say that I'm not gonna look down, lol.

    First year of the journey

Wow, I cried when I read your story, I can really relate to it, especially after losing my mother and HER battle with obesity and other related health problems. Many congratulations to you and your success. I'm proud of you!
