November Surgery
HappyHikerGal replied to shannon_farrar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had VSG surgery on Monday in Tijuana. My clinic took excellent care of me and I was up walking about 2 hours after surgery. The next day I was discharged to a nice hotel. I was completely exhausted. I did a little bit of walking, sipped some broth and electrolytes, but in the evening I experienced the foamies. I think this happens to me if I drink too much or if I go too long without sipping something. I haven’t thrown up and generally feel pretty good today. Today was my barium leak test and I passed with flying colors. I look forward to flying home tomorrow. All of my sleeve sisters seem to be feeling good as well. Tomorrow I also get to add kefir and protein shakes to my diet. Hopefully it goes down well. -

Sinus / allergy issues 2 days pre-O.P.
HappyHikerGal replied to al0vely's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just finishing up a terrible cold and a terrible case of impetigo on my nose. My surgery is Nov. 18 and I had many of the same fears you do. I've been sweating it out, but after a few days the sinuses were much better. First, call your clinic and inform them of the situation. They will have suggestions. See if your doctor can prescribe an antibiotic. Things that helped me greatly: Saline nose spray, Vicks Vapo Rub at night, Emergen-C on top of my pre-op vitamins, rest, broth with ginger and garlic, broth with spicy Thai seasoning. Good luck!! -
Happy Surgery Day! @Jas592 @JerseyNJ @Chris NH Wishing you smooth sailing and healthy vibes!

Can we just be for real ???
HappyHikerGal replied to november11's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Absolutely part of the whole fantastic list of positives in my mind! While the movement, comfort, confidence, "fitting" in places, and health benefits top my list, looking nice in clothes (especially 2nd hand clothes!) is going to be wonderful, if I'm so blessed to get to a healthy weight. -
Good luck, you two! Sending positive surgery vibes!

How are you doing now? I sure hope things have gotten better for you.

14-day Pre-op Starts Today

Right there with you! I will be on the bench in no time! -
Wise words! Yeah, I didn't have a funeral since I've been holding somewhat tight to my extended pre-op, and like you, I am thinking that off into the future, I'll be eating regular food, and hopefully I won't want the terrible things anymore. The pre-0p has trained me to say "no thank you." Holidays are going to be interesting this year. Looks like turkey broth for Thanksgiving and seafood broth for Christmas!

Well, today is my first official day of the 2 week pre-op diet. Surgery in 14 short days! I'm so excited and a little nervous about the big changes in front of me. But in my mind, I'm certain this will be the healthiest possible road for me to travel on!

Hey November surgery friends. We're getting close! I'm thinking about you, Friday peeps for sure. Sending you happy healthy vibes. I'm having my surgery in Mexico and just made a post-op appointment at my local bariatrics practics for follow up care in mid-December. That was my last important hurdle to jump to give me peace of mind. My head is full of dreams as I make plans now for a special 30th Anniversary cruise with my hubby in March. I won't be at goal weight, but it's fun to think that I'll be snorkeling and dancing with more ease!

Anyone do either a thru-hike or "pilgrimage" after surgery?
HappyHikerGal replied to momof3_angels's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The Camino is on my bucket list. I am also planning to walk Hadrian's Wall, dividing England and Scotland. My son goes to college up there and we hope to do it together in 2021. Sent from my Pixel 2 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hey there! Is the protein shake agreeing with you? I don't know if your clinic allows you to switch brands, but it might be something to consider. It's one thing to drink a shake once a day, and quite another to have 3 or 4 of them! Cheers, fearless leader, you've got this!

Changing Habits Prior to Surgery
HappyHikerGal replied to Lauren87's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm pre-op too, so I can't speak for long term success, but I have been on a pre-op diet for almost 4 months and have lost over 30 lbs. At that time I instituted a healthy mind/body/spirit morning ritual that is serving me well and giving me tools that will be helpful in the next phase after my VSG surgery on November 18th. I wake up, go to another room and meditate for 20 min, watch a YouTube video on a topic regarding personal growth, go for a 35-40 min walk and then get the day going with the family. I am learning so much and I'm developing a more positive self-confidence through this practice. It doesn't cost me anything and I feel good knowing that my self-care is paying off. During my walks, I listen to past episodes of the Weight Loss Surgery Podcast, which are incredibly helpful and informative to me. Good luck with this exciting next phase for you!
