    Vitamins

I started within 1 week post op. Chewable only because they are huge... but I had no trouble swallowing other medications in small pill form. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    How to tell family??

I didn't tell my husband until after my first appointments. I knew he wouldn't approve (he saw it as unnecessary surgery with too many risks). I insisted he didn't tell anyone else (he shares absolutely everything with his siblings). But I needed him to help me make an appointment when I was going out of town.... and to drive me to procedures with sedation involved. He tried to be supportive, but he also tried to talk me out of it many times over the 2 months he knew about it. I waited until the week before to tell my daughter that lives a home. She thought I was crazy. Told my 2 sons a month after surgery... only because one was coming home for a few days and would know something is up. I am still not going to tell anyone else in my family. None of their business! Many co-workers do know though and they have been great. And hubby was great when I was recovering too. And just the other day he told me he realizes this was good for me after all and he is glad I am regaining my health and life. Anyhow - to tell or not to tell is your decision. Do whatever will help you be most successful. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Spike in weight

That is true for many! But personally I need it to help me stay on track. If my weight is up I just get off the scale before it records automatically into my app lol. Then I adjust my days eating accordingly. If I am up, I make sure to do a better job of following my diet plan. And hydrate. And yes, as another poster replied, a 5 pound fluctuation is normal. I tend to drop, then fluctuate for several days, then drop again. Rinse. Repeat. I am 3 months out and did the big fast drop and now I only drop a pound maybe once or twice a week. The rest of the time I am up and down. And even if I get on the scale at night... it is only to see what I predict I will do by morning. I never let the night weights record. Salad?

I technically have been allowed to eat anything I can tolerate since 4 weeks. I am almost 3 months and find most veggies are fine, but I dont tolerate lettuces yet. They just dont digest well yet. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Weight Calculators

I am just under 3 months out... I am already at my "50 percent chance to reach" number. I am 4 pounds from my doctors goal weight as well. Weight is starting g to come off much slower, but I will be happy even if I just maintain at this point. Though I think I will probably at least hit that 20 percent chance weight. 9. So, today I am 11 1/2 weeks post op and my weight loss has significantly slowed/stalled. I am lucky at this point if I drop even 1 pound in a week. Day in and day out, the scale fluctuates up and down by 2 pounds, but mostly does not actually drop below my last low. Can't remember exactly when this started, but probably about 3+ weeks ago. Still following docs orders, although I admit I am bad about measuring and recording. I also still struggle to get in all of my fluids. So much so that last week I had to have a medical procedure done... and couldn't eat anything for 8 hours before a procedure at 1 pm, which really meant I couldn't eat anything since before bed the night before. By the time I got to the docs office, I was VERY dehydrated and asked the doc to give me extra fluids. But before they did... they had to fight to find a place to start my IV. Took the anesthesiologist to get it because the nurse couldn't get it. And when she did... I actually fainted from dehydration. Seriously. Needless to say, they gave me the extra fluids I asked for. And yay for me, they didn't get to do the procedure afterall do to another complication... which means I get to do this again LMAO. Back to my stall... I am sure some of it has to do with the fact that I am still not getting enough fluids and calories. I am not doing terribly, but I am not doing great at it either. But at the same time, I am doing so much more activity. I walk a lot, whenever I can. Today I did 6 miles, last weekend I did 9. And my body IS drastically changing. I was a size 16/XL. My abdomen was very protruding. I quickly dropped to a 14/large. I bought size 12 pants when they were tight on me to go back to work... and when I did at 9 weeks post op, they fit perfectly. Then I bought a few mediums because I would be able to wear them in a couple months. I also received an XL shirt that I ordered ages ago at work that arrived last week... and I switched it out to a women's medium thinking it would fit me "soon". I tried that shirt on last week and it was too snug to wear. Since I have so few work clothes, I decided to try it on again this week... and it fit... and looked a little LOOSE! Then I ordered 2 pairs of hiking pants to shrink into soon... a size 10 and a size 8... the size 8 arrived first so I tried it on for fun.... it is tight... but I was able to get them on and zip/button them! The size 10 is perfect though I don't think I will be wearing them for long. And the fact that I could squeeze into the size 8 is just so exciting! Seriously, that means I am just about half the clothing size I was when I started. Anyhow... just wanted to remind all of those who are 'STUCK" to pay attention to their clothing sizes/body shape... just because you aren't losing weight, does NOT mean that you have stopped losing inches! And for those who are much more active than before, remember: Muscle weighs more than fat. You are gaining muscle which offsets the "weight" loss... but building more muscle will help you lose more fat!

    Smart Scales

I agree with the others, but would like to add that smart scales are great. Love how they track your progress with their apps, which communicate with your fitness and or nutrition apps. I dont recommend any specific scale... but if you use apps already for nutrition and or exercise... look for scales that are compatible with those programs. And look for features that would benefit you. For example, my scale tells me total weight and approximate fat weight. It also measures heart rate. It has features I turned off like outdoor weather and indoor air quality. Other scales measure different things. Dont pay extra for scales that tell you more than you need or want! My apps tell me how much weight I have lost today and in total .. and how far I am to my goals. I can see my trends and track inches lost in the apps. Eating out after Gastric bypass surgery

I have already eaten out a few times post op. At some places, I just nibble off my husband or daughters plate. Sometimes there is a soup I can eat. Other times I order a healthier option meal, substituting things like rice when I can.... and then eating leftovers for the remainder of the day (or even 2 days). In the end, it all works out. That said.... I will avoid buffets at all costs. Not only is it not worth it for me to eat at them, I will be encouraging my immediate family to avoid them as well because you will always want to overeat at them. 11 1/2 weeks and stalled... but....

Yes... I am trying! Most of the time I am close enough to the 64 ounces that I am doing fine... but the more I eat the less I can drink. And I am at a point where my body seems to also need more calories. I knew that I wouldn't be able to catch up on fluids after being NPO for a medical procedure. I also knew it would be hard for them to start my IV. But is was surprised that I fainted! I love cold water too... I carry a hydro flask which is great, but heavy for walks. I also do better with Vitamin water zero. I am going to try more soups too. I think getting fluids in is a little easier when I eat foods with a broth base. Did mine today - by robot

Interesting. My robotic sleeve was different. No catheter. One IV site. And preoperatively the doc said I would have 3 incisions, but I ended up with 7. Glad you are doing well! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    What the Gobble...(Food gatherings)

We had a Thanksgiving meal at work a few days ago. I put about 2 oz of skinless Turkey on my plate, and about a teaspoon full of several sides on my plate. Huge plate looked pathetically empty... ate the protein first and then took an hour to finish the rest. Glad I participated without overdoing it. I did skip the rolls and desserts, but I had just enough potatoes and stuffing to feel like I didn't miss out on anything. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Pay attention to your body shape at times like these... I am stalled, but am definitely losing inches. Also remember, muscle weighs more than fat. You are gaining muscle, but that in turn will help you lose more fat and inches. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

How long did your incisional pain last

My main incision hurt at times for 5 weeks. I would move just right and feel like someone just stabbed me. The rest were hardly noticed after a couple days. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

What’s the reason why we can’t lift?

What’s the reason why we can’t lift?

VGS David answered the question you asked. Dont think he was trying to be judgemental. If you ask professionals (also a nurse here) you will get a similar answer. Follow docs advise, consult your doc, etc. Now, you want to know other experiences? Maybe you will hurt yourself. Maybe you wont. You have to decide if it is worth the risk. Me? I listen to my docs and my body. My doc said not to lift over 10 pounds. Your doc was generous in saying 30 pounds. An adult human being weighs much more. Yes, you might hurt yourself. Or you could get lucky and be fine. I personally wouldn't risk it. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Just curious if anyone has had a significant rise in their Total Bilirubin and Vitamin B12 levels post op. My Bili is always on the high end of normal, or BARELY above normal. I was once told that I might have some sort of benign liver disease (I was 19 at the time - I am now 47), but no other doc was ever concerned as the rest of my liver function tests are usually normal. And while the only time I have ever had (knowingly) a Vitamin B12 level was pre-op... it WAS normal. When I got home from the hospital, I noticed online that my Bilirubin was much higher than my normal while I was in the hospital. I just assumed that it was due to injury/irritation of liver or gallbladder during surgery and hoped it would come down by my next set of post-op labs. Well, I was supposed to do my 3 month labs 2 weeks prior to my 3 month appointment. Because I was going back to work, I decided to get it done 2 weeks earlier. They are posted on my physician portal and they have me a little alarmed. Most are OK, with a few out of the ordinaries. But my Total Bilirubin is 1.9 which is a little HIGHER than it was in the hospital, but also my Vitamin B12 level is greater than 2000. Of course, you look these up online and the possibilities of what is causing this is pretty scary... so I don't want to jump to those conclusions. But I can't find enough research regarding this phenomenon with WLS. I had the sleeve. I know my liver was fatty according to my surgical notes. I know I am losing weight rapidly so that can cause issues. But, has anyone else go through this? If so, what was the cause? And did it resolve on its own? Or did it resolve at all? Kind of anxious, but my appoint with the doc isn't until December. Struggling with deciding if I should wait and see if the doc calls me when he sees the results, making an appointment for sooner, or just waiting until the next appointment. Worried, but also know I was fine before surgery, so maybe I am still just recovering? Or maybe it is my gallbladder acting up without too many symptoms yet... or maybe it IS a liver disease. Not ready to think Cancer yet, but don't want to "wait and see" too long either. Ugh. Anyhow... I doubt the doc has seen my results yet.
  24. Thanks for sharing! The only Vitamin B12 I am taking is in my bariatric multivitamin... which lately I keep forgetting to take! I wasn't too concerned until I looked up high bilirubin with high vitamin b12... and together they indicate possible cancer and so of course it is a bit concerning. Of course, Cancer isn't the only cause... but just scary possibility. If others have a high b12 after surgery, I am less concerned though will continue monitoring and talk to the doc when I see him. I think I will keep my Dec appointment unless he calls me in because of labs... and then I will drop off a copy of my labs at my PCP office and SHE will probably call me and we can talk. I thought this might all be surgery/rapid weight loss related, but the web search had me worried. B12 is water soluble, so normally you just pee the extra out. Trying to up my fluids to see if it will help.
  25. Honestly my energy level was very low until 5-6 weeks post op. My doc gave me 8 weeks off. I am glad he did. I was shotting for 6, but doc insisted on 8. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
