  1. I’m 5 months out and I’ve stalled out (it’s been about 2.5 weeks with no loss). Is this it? Can I hope to loose more or am I done? When did you stop loosing after gastric sleeve. st w 238, CW 185. SD 9/19/19
  2. Ugh! I am so frustrated. The scale hasn’t moved in two weeks! I don’t know what to do. I’m 5 months post op. I’m eating about 700 calories a day. Doc wants me up to 1000, but it’s been tough to get there. I haven’t had a whole lot of energy the past month, but I upped my protein shakes to twice a day and that has helped with my energy considerably. I admit I haven’t been too strict with my diet relying mostly on the tiny portions that I eat keeping me in check, which they have in the sense that I’m not getting very many calories. I do try and make sure I’ve gotten my protein in each day, and my water. I just don’t see how 700 calories a day can keep me at 185lbs for 2 weeks without so much as one pound lost. I have been loosing slow from the get go and now its trickling to a hault. I’m 50lbs down since surgery but my weight loss can’t already be stopping. Can it? Please advise. Or share you similar story. HW 238, SW 230, CW 185 Surgery date September 19, 2019
  3. Thanks so much. I’m just sticking to it. Wish me luck. I appreciate the support. Let me know once your stall breaks too. It’s so frustrating.
  4. I’m 4 months out and have averaged about 10 lbs a month. I too was super frustrated, however the scale continues to move. I’m down 50lbs which is the most weight I’ve ever been able to loose ever. I’m currently 189lbs. I’d love to get to 125 but if I get to 150 I’ll be happy. I didn’t get this surgery to become a super model, I did it to get healthy and I’m feeling much better already. It is frustrating thinking everyone’s loosing more than you, faster than you, etc. But believe me, it will come off. Just keep doing what you’re doing. PS I actually feel like I’m loosing more weight after the first few months. It seems like it picked up a bit for me. Maybe the same will happen to you. pps make sure you drink your water and are going to the bathroom. That helps flush the weight out too.

    Hydration

You know what worked for me? And it’s completely controversial, but for me, using a straw worked wonders. I know doc said no straws because of gas, but I don’t seem to have that problem and drinking my water with a straw helps me to get it down much easier. Also, get yourself a good water bottle. My husband got me a hydroflask, and although it’s expensive, it’s been worth every single penny. It keeps your water cold with very little ice cubes for at least 24 hours. I got the straw lid and it’s been my best buddy. Intake it everywhere. ps also, it doesn’t sweat so that’s also a big plus.

    shoulder pain after eating/drinking

I had the sleeve, not the band, but the pain eventually subsided. It’s been a few months now and I don’t remember when I last had it. I’m very glad it’s over because it had me very worried. my doc won’t even perform lap band anymore. He says they cause way too many complications. He’s very much pro sleeve sayin that he's seen so much success with the sleeve in his patients. at our information meeting he talked a woman out of getting the band because he said weight loss was not significant enough and most people end up having it removed in the end and regain all the weight. If you do remove your band, consider the sleeve. I highly recommend it. good luck in your journey.

    Recurring Hunger (2 Weeks Post-Op)?

This is normal and will pass. I first felt hungry all the time after surgery. And, although I would get full quickly, I’d get hungry again just as quickly. I was really worried that I wouldn’t loose enough, or that the surgery would not work for me. But soon this passed and now I’m rarely hungry. I could go all day off of a handful of almonds or a couple of slices of ham if I let myself. I have to remember to eat.
  8. Hi all. I’m due to have my period right smack in the middle of my scheduled surgery. I know, tmi, however I ree-he-heely don’t want them to reschedule me. Is this something that would stop the procedure from going on as planned or is it a non issue? Anyone else have Aunt Flo during surgery?
  9. Honestly I didn’t bother blending stuff too much. I just este soft foods during the puréed phase. Things like yogurt, cottage cheese and soups (with added protein powder). The phase goes by quickly and you eat so little, it’s almost not worth the effort of preparing anything too complicated. For example, I made a tuna salad one day, and I took about 2-3 spoonfuls as I was making it, to taste for salt and seasoning, etc. I was full by the time the darn thing was ready and I ended up putting in the fridge. That same tuna salad fed me for like 2 days. Lol. So you may not even need a blender.
  10. Hi guys. Tomorrow will be three weeks post op and I’m sad to say, I’ve only lost 10 lbs. I don’t understand it. I hardly eat anything. I’m averaging 500-600 calories a day and getting all of my protein in. What am I doing wrong? I feel I should be loosing more. Ive been stuck at 220 for almost a week and I’m at my wits end. I’m not even eating solid foods. I’m worried that I won’t get to my goal weight by the time my stomach starts to stretch out. Any advice?
  11. Hi all Immediately after my surgery (like as soon as I woke up), I had sharp, intense pain in my left shoulder. This pain continued through the time in the hospital. Everyone said it was gas pain. It would move up near my neck and back to my shoulder. And it came and went in bursts. After leaving the hospital it was extremely reduced to just a small, occasional discomfort. However, it’s been three weeks and I still get it a few times a day. My doctor said this type of pain is associated with the drain that was placed while in the hospital and seemed not concerned. He said it was only important to acknowledge if it was happening after eating, as that could be a sight of a leak, but I only really feel it in the morning after laying down all night, or after a nap. Now im noticing sometime it does twinge a bit after eating, but it’s both short lived and not very intense. Im concerned of course of a leak, but I have no other signs of leak. No rapid heart beat. No fever, sweating or other discomfort of any kind. In fact, I feel great. It’s bothersome because three weeks post surgery I’m still getting this annoying pain. Could it be a leak? Has anyone else experienced this?
  12. Oddly enough, I think we all have friends and family members who are not supportive of our choice to have surgery. But they don’t have to live in our bodies. We do! So it’s important to keep that in mind. I think your mom just wants to “prove” to you that you could have lost it the old fashioned way. However she may be feeling jealousy or insecurity about your success. I would just talk to her. It’s petty, and it’s not helping anyone. Wish her luck on her weight loss journey, but tell her you are not interested in her methods, you are focusing on your journey. Let her know that what’s done is done. You cant go back so this display is not helping and let her know it makes you uncomfortable, upset, etc, and that you need her to support your decision. I have a friend who was hell bent on not letting her best friend have the surgery. She did everything in her power to convince her friend that she could loose the weight on her own. Her friend was overweight her entire life why she thought that would suddenly change is beyond me. Even after, when she started loosing the weight, she insisted that she could have done it on her own. I got into a bit of an argument trying to convince her that no she couldn’t have. If she could have, she would have. But she was not able to, no matter how many times she tried. After seeing their struggle I chose to tell very few people about my decision to have the surgery. I knew I did not want to go through that with anyone. Of course, I told my mom she stayed with me in the hospital etc, and was super supportive. That’s one reason I feel for you. It would have been awful for me if she wasn’t on board. There are many people who’s insecurities come out when they see others succeed. It’s very unfortunate that it’s your mom, but it happens. There are friends and coworkers (and family members) that don’t want you to change. It happens with or without the surgery. If you are down it makes them feel up. We all have to just push through and let go of the negative people in our lives. Give her time after you talk to her. She may get better. But don’t be surprised if she gets more passive-aggressive as you continue to loose. Especially if she stops loosing or regains weight. Hopefully that won’t happen and you’ll be back to normal before long. Good luck.

    shoulder pain after eating/drinking

I too am having this pain. How did it work out for you. I have no other signs of leak. Just wanted to know how you were now.
  14. Thanks everyone for your support. I’m continuing my plan and will try to be patient as the stall passes.

    Hunger

I’m just like you. I’m 3 weeks out and hungry all the time. I feel like I need real food, not soups and purées. Yet anything I eat, I can only get a few bites down before I’m full then I’m hungry again an hour later. And I’m craving things too. I thought I wouldn’t have to battle these daemons after the surgery, yet I still want to eat. Good thing I can’t. I’ve kind of moved passed the puréed foods an on to soft foods because I feel like I need solids. I’m a bit lost as to what to eat. I’m having things like soft scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. And lots of soups. Im only down 10 lbs since my surgery so that has me a little concerned too. However I’m averaging 600 calories a day. Doc says that’s about right for this time after surgery. Anyway, you’re not alone I too expected to have no appetite at this time, and more weight loss too.
  16. Hi all Got sleeved last Thursday on the 19th of September. Im in a good amount of pain still. I’m wondering when you became pain free after surgery. It’s been 6 days and I’m still pretty much bed ridden. I do get up and walk often and I go up and down stairs a few times a day but im in pain. About one hour before my pain meds are due I know it. I can feel it. I’m on Percocet and tylenol. When did you stop feeling pain after surgery?

    Eating after wls

That’s odd. I was put on two weeks of full liquids after hospital release. I’m one week passed it and I ha e one week to go. I am starting to get hungry and want food. However if I eat or drink anything I get full right away. Ive had some soups like tomato soup and I had to drink it very slowly and carefully. However it did stay down just fine. I can’t imagine trying solid goods yet. Even thick liquids are tough. I would stick to protein shakes and soups for now and just take it slow. I’m looking forward to soft foods though. I e even on a liquid diet for nearly a month.
  18. I take Prilosec. Is that a PPI or an H2 blocker?
  19. I’m a week out today. Feeling better. Still in a little pain, but much more comfortable and I know tomorrow will be even better
  20. Hi Chula. I’m so sorry to hear about your difficulties. It is really hard a first. I too was in more pain than expected. I doubled up on pills a few times just to get through. However try using over the counter meds to help with the pain. We have an opioid epidemic going on and docs and hospitals are refusing to give out large amounts of pain meds. This is why you can’t seem to get what you need. And the more you plead the more they refuse because they think you are becoming addicted. Get some extra strength Tylenol and try taking one in between doses of your stronger meds. Do not, I repeat, do not take more than 4000 ml off Tylenol a day. It can permanently damage your liver. And see if your other meds contain any type of acetaminophen. If so you must count that. I’d be very diligent and not go over 3000 just to be safe. However I find it has helped me a lot. Try and get your water in. It is super important and dehydration is probably contributing to your discomfort. It is shameful that the hospital is not responding to your calls. You need to go in person and demand to see your surgeon. Easier said than done, I know. But right now the emergency room is a good idea. Have them check you for leaks as you may be experiencing some complications and not know it, which contributes to the pain. Get yourself a medical binder (available on amazon) or ask for one at the ER. It’s a tight wrap you put around your midsection and helps tremendously with pain. I really hope you feel better soon. No one deserves to suffer more than they should. Whether you chose this or not, you deserve the absolute best care and it doesn’t look like you are getting it. Get yourself back to a hospital ASAP. Try and find a good local one that won’t dismiss your complaints. Not all hospitals are the same. E en if you have to drive further get to the best hospital you can reach. Good luck. I promise you, this too shall pass. But you’ve tried enough on your own. You need a professionals help to get over this hurdle. Good luck and please keep us up to date.

    Confirmed surgery date!

I’m feeling good. Pain is usually worse in the morning. After I get up and walk around a bit and take my meds it’s not so bad.

    Any September Sleevers?

I can’t wait for stage three. One more week! I’m so sick of this liquid diet. I do hope you are able to keep things down comfortably. Some people have difficulty moving to “solids” after so much time on liquid. I can’t wait.

    Confirmed surgery date!

Yay. Isn’t it exciting? You have such a pretty face, wait until the rest of you feels just as healthy and bright. You’re going to feel amazing. I got sleeved just last week. Tomorrow will be one week out. I had a good amount of pain and discomfort but I don’t care. I can’t wait to loose the weight. I feel hopeful again after feeling so helpless and hopeless for so long. Good luck!
