Drinking & Eating & Alcohol
pjd3253 replied to Me1e's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I must be one of the people who just lose weight very slow - you have already lost so much and I had my surgery 6/27 and I honestly don't think I have lost anything - I am not eating much - I think I am doing what I am supposed to - I get ful faster than I used to - I am not eating fattening foods or sweets - wonder why some people lose so fast and others don't - I do not have much restriction at some meals, I do at others which I also don't understand - I tried to eat some fruit while ago for a snack and a piece got stuck so it is weird how sometimes I feel I can eat anything with no restriction plus drink iced tea or water with meals and other times like the snack it got stuck - does anyone understand any of this? Thanks. -
I hate to keep beating it to death but it creeps me out and I am worried it will creep my husband out if he feels it or sees it. I was told it would be hidden. I love the band except for this
-
how far post op are you
-
Do you know why last night I could eat anything if I had wanted to - as much as I used to but this morning my vitamin got stuck?
-
No I can drink before and during - I think the reason was that they were worried we would get too full with the liquid and not eat food but I can sip water or tea with my meal no problem.
-
Does the band get looser because the stomach shrinks?
-
Does anyone take Alli with meals? Seems like it would help if anything with fat is eaten. Thanks.
-
I feel so guilty eating now - I am able to eat so much food - I am still not eating what I used to but I wish I would get full faster and feel more restriction. The band is so much less restrictive than I thought it would be. I get my first fill on August 11. Can't wait.

I am 19 days post-op - am doing pretty well - I don't think I have lost much weight but the swelling seems to be finally going down except around my port area - my question is sometimes after I eat I feel a sort of electrical prickly sensation like pins and needles but not painful in my arms and legs. Has anyone else experienced this? I live in Dallas and it is very hot right now so may be heat related but wanted to see if it is normal - I just left my doctor's MA a voicemail about it and my first fill/adjustment appt isn't until August 11th. I also woke this morning with a severe crick in my neck where I can't turn to the left but I think I am trying to blame everything on the band and it probably isn't related at all. Thanks!!

Prickly feelings in arms and legs

Thanks. I think I am getting enough vitamins but I will take more - I am a little down tonight because I went to dinner with my husband and even though I didn't eat as much as I normally would have pre-band I feel guilty about what I ate and didn't get the full feeling that I get sometimes - why do you get it sometimes and other times now. It is so frustrating. -
I get my first fill first week of August - my doctor said I would lie down on a table and he would put an x-ray machine over me to see if the band is in the right place - did I get that right? Is that what everyone else has gone through? I hope it is right because I am so worried that I have somehow caused my band to slip because I feel almost no restriction - I do get full fast but can eat pretty much anything I want - I don't however eat bad things just am able to eat pasta, egg dishes and even steak in small amounts. Thanks for any info.

I am 19 days post-op and feel hungry most of the time - I am bad about drinking enough water but I have almost no restriction so it is easy for me to get food down and my stomach growls all the time even after I have eaten a meal - I get full fast when I eat but about 2 hours later I am hungry again - it is depressing.
-
Starbucks has a new Vivanno drink - two flavors - they have 16 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber and 212-270 calories - I got one this morning - they put a whole banana in it some cocoa, protein powder and blend it - it is pretty good and at 212 calories not too bad - they also sell a drink called Naked which is a protein drink that has around 25 grams in it that tastes pretty good - I do not like the OdWalla soy protein drinks at all.

Are you completely happy with your lap band decision.

I am still in the "not sure" stage because I am still unhappy with the swelling in my port area (I am 17 days post-op) - somedays I feel restriction some days I don't - I don't understand why that happens - I do not see the doctor again until August 11th - if I am not down any by then which would be about 6 weeks after surgery I will probably be in the big-time disappointed stage. I am hardly eating anything - you would think weight would be falling off but it isn't. Thanks. -
I guess everyone is different - I flew to Tampa and back 4 days after my surgery which is a two hour flight from Dallas no problem, no gas, no shoulder pain - I have also flown to NY and back - about a 3-4 hour flight from Dallas still with no gas issues or shoulder pain - I think everyone is different and everyone has unique experiences. My doctor told me I could fly right after my surgery and didn't mention the gas pain - sorry you had so much pain on your flight. That sounds awful.

What does your port feel like to touch
pjd3253 replied to slimmy120's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My port is on my left side right under my left breast about a 4 inch incision - the others have already faded away but this one will take awhile - my port is the Realize port which is flatter than the lap band port. I am thankful I got it because it sticks out like a goose egg very noticeable and I am glad I didn't go with the lap band which has a thicker port and would stick out even more I guess - I think I like my band but still not sure - 16 days post-op and if this goose egg would go down I would be so much happier. I am thinking I should have gotten the sleeve but too late. -
This may be a stupid question but when it has to be repositioned is that done in the doctor's office or do you have to go to hospital and go under anesthesia like the original surgery.
-
I am glad you wrote about the sleeve because I am very interested in it - I have the band but my husband is thinking about the sleeve - my question is do you feel like you did before just that you can't eat as much because your stomach is so much smaller? I am wondering if I should have done that since I am having port pain and swelling, sticks up like a goose egg and I worry that my band is slipping, etc. I guess the sleeve takes all that worry away - my doctor told me he wouldn't do the sleeve on me because I didn't have 100 lbs to lose but I think he would have done it if I had insisted regardless of the amount of weight I had to lose - I went on obesityhelp forum and people were posting about politics, whether or not to keep their kids out of first grade for another year, stuff having NOTHING to do with WLS so I switched to this lap band talk site which is so much better - you can actually get real answers to important questions here. Thanks.
-
No, I went on vacation 4 days post-op and my doctor said it was fine to fly wouldn't hurt anything.
-
I have the band - 14 days post-op - my husband is considering the sleeve - can you tell me what the main difference is as far as restriction, healing, appetite, full feeling, etc. I would really appreciate it. I am wondering if I shouldn't have gotten the sleeve - the reason I didn't was because of the irreversibility of it but maybe that would be a good thing. Thanks!!
-
You don't know how much I appreciate your messages - I have tried for two weeks to get real answers to questions instead of people posting about things not related to the surgery - I really appreciate it.
-
Why would the band be tighter some times than other times - I have not had a fill yet but I hear so many different things from people and it gets confusing to me - Thanks!
-
So your port stuck out too?
-
Wow - my doctor is Cribbins - Hamm's partner. I like him a lot but frankly the main reason I chose him over Dr. Kuhn at Baylor was that I wanted the surgery done in a surgery center not a hospital and Dr. Kuhn did them at Baylor at the time - now he does them at a surgery center but I am still happy with Cribbins. My only complaint about that office is that it their waiting room is always packed and I feel like I am rushed through my appointments sometimes. The staff at the surgery center were great and I have had no problem with any of the staff at the office either just feel sort of like an assembly line operation. Do you feel like that at all?
-
I think mine probably does too - he is one of the top doctors in Dallas so probably has all the most updated equipment - I was just surprised to see them literallly poking and poking this poor girl lying on the table - it looked so painful and they finally found the hole. My port is so visible like I said like a goose egg on my stomach seems like it would be easy to find - when I feel around it and it sort of gives me the creeps I can feel the edges of the port - it feels like it is just barely under my skin - I have a fat stomach but the fat is underneath the muscle - don't have much loose skin or fat above and that is why the doctor told me he couldn't put it lower. Honestly if it doesn't go away I will be wishing I had just gotten the sleeve and not had to deal with the port - other than this one thing I am very satisfied with everything.
