I think generally the doctors don't tell you the information that we find important to know after the surgery is already done - we don't know to ask questions like this or about sliming, other things because we don't know it happens until it actually does happen. I specifically asked my doctor before my surgery if I would be able to see it or feel it - personally, my husband and I have a large heavily treed and private backyard and we exercise in the pool every day and don't have to wear swimsuits - I am self-conscious about how it looks to him. Even if I was able to wear a bikini again and I hope that will happen I would not be able to unless this port goes down and is hidden more in the future. I love the band but I HATE the port.

I slime only when drinking cold liquids - food doesn't do it so nothing stuck in stoma - it is unpleasant but hasn't happened too many times - I know if I drink something really cold and maybe too fast it happens right away. I used to think it was dairy because the first time it happened I was drinking a fruit smoothie made with yogurt but not sure really. Thanks.

I am 5 weeks post-op and have not had a fill yet - have been worried about having no restriction at all then the last few days feel more restriction - this may be a stupid question but why would I have more restriction 5 weeks out and one week before my fill or is it related to something other than just how post-op I am. It is hard to get a handle on this because sometimes I feel like I am able to eat the same amount of food but then yesterday couldn't eat a piece of banana and same thing today had to spit it out. Thanks!

WOW - that is a great web-site - thanks so much!!

I will be 5 weeks post op Friday and if it isn't gone by my first fill August 11 may have to do something about it. Sometimes sticks out even more than other times

I eat my carbs in the morning - usually oatmeal or cream of wheat something like that and a small protein shake. Lunch is usually tuna salad or something like that with protein and dinner I try to have protein, a small steak or tonight I just had deviled eggs and a baked sweet potato and Vitamin Water. Sometimes for dessert I will have sugar free sorbet. I agree that you should eat as few carbs as possible but if you really want them have them early in the day. Think of it as like putting a log on the fire - protein is a big log that burns longer so keeps you full longer - carbs are like twigs that burn fast - do not keep you full and metabolize as sugar in your system.

a thick phlegm that comes up in your mouth and you have to spit it out you can't swallow it - it keeps coming up for about 5 minutes - it is very unpleasant but like I said I have only had it happen a few times and usually when I drink something really cold - for instance, today I had a cold sugar free lemonade and I had to stop drinking it because the sliming was so bad.
-
No I haven't had a fill - in fact only 4 weeks post-op and my band is very loose - I can eat almost as much as before the band - I only get it when I drink something cold -it is a thick clear phlegm that keeps coming up over and over until you can't keep it in your mouth - you have to spit it out - it goes on for about 5 minutes and stops. I cannot drink anything really cold or fast because of it - it is weird that the sliming proves to me that there is a band in there but the amount of food I can consume if I let myself goes right down. I get my first fill on August 11th and can't wait to finally have some restriction like when I first have the surgery and was swollen. Thanks!
-
I am eating so much less than I did before you would think that even if I didn't have the band I would have lost more than I am now - not sure the band is working yet but then I haven't had a fill yet - I have the Realize Band and it is larger than the Lap Band so maybe food can go down too easily - I am ready for my fill on August 11th. Counting the minutes.

Has your port swelling gone down yet? I am 4 weeks post op now and mine is still sticking up - not as bad as it was but you can definitely see it - I can actually feel the round port under my skin - however, if the scar wasn't noticeable above the port and it was faded out completely the port wouldn't be as noticeable but it is obvious with the scar there that something was done. I actually had a lady ask me what happened and I lied and told her I had a hernia operation. People can be so rude.

Determined to Lose Weight on Vacation

Did you reply to a post I had about my goose egg port area after my surgery? I am trying to find the person who wrote me several times to see if the port area ever went down - mine is still sticking up after 4 weeks - not as bad but not as flat as I would have liked. Thanks! -
Went from no restriction to restriction overnight

I am 3 1/2 weeks post -op - have been able to eat soft foods and even steak as long as I chew it well no problem - have even had sips of tea during meals no problem - this morning I ate my usual boiled egg for breakfast, it would not go down and I got sick - at lunch I rolled up some turkey and ate it and it got stuck - feeling I needed to eat something else at 3:30 I ate some mashed potatoes and they got stuck - what is the deal? Thanks -

My doctor told me I could eat regular food anything I wanted at 3 weeks - I think every doctor is different -he won't do a fill until 6 weeks - I have 2 weeks to go - I have eat mainly fish and soft foods but did eat a small steak for protein at 3 week and chewed it really well with no problem - my doctor's assistant told me that the reason you are more restricted in the morning is that during the night you get dehydrated and by the end of the day you can eat more -
Also, Starbucks has two new protein shakes - one is a Mango Banana Vivanno and the other is Banana Chocolate VIvanno - low calorie and has a whole banana in it and has 21 grams of protein.
-
GNC has some long tube like protein shots - lemon-lime, fruit punch, etc. some have 45 and some have 27 (I may be off a few) and I drink one every day just open top and drink it down - not bad tasting to me and it goes down fast.

13 days post-op and feeling desperate
pjd3253 replied to lafrogura's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hiccup alot - I did not know that meant food had gone into the larger stomach. No one told me that - wondered why I was hiccuping so much - I too can eat way more food than I think I am supposed to eat. I am 5 weeks out and was told to eat regular food at 3 weeks post-op. I am depressed today because I feel like I eat almost as much as before but have this big lump on my left side and wondering if it was worth it - maybe it is too soon to give up - I didn't have willpower before so why would I have it now if I have no restriction? -
I am slightly less hungry and get full faster but stomach growls alot

I am about the same as you - I do not know what happened - been thin all my life or at least not too much over my ideal weight - then about 2 years ago when I went through menopause gained in my mid-section - my stomach is very distended and hard - I need to lose about 40-45 lbs - have had lipo a few times - wish I had never done it - changes your shape too much - I was banded 3 weeks ago and have not lost any weight - I am eating less and not things I shouldn't - no carbonated drinks, no bread, soft foods, etc. Why can't I lose the weight? It is very depressing. I even went and had a CT Scan to make sure I didn't have a tumor in my stomach and that was what was making my stomach stick out - my legs are thin but my stomach looks like I am 8 months pregnant. My face is thin, my arms are medium - from the back look fine but when I turn around I have this horrible hard distended stomach. I paid for the band myself - not covered under my insurance and they wouldn't have qualified me anyway. Thanks for listening.
-
I had my surgery on 6/27 and my first fill is August 11 also - I am hoping to have more restriction than I have now because even though I am not eating like before I feel I am getting in too many calories.
-
I have never done WW diet but have siblings who have and love it - seems too complicated counting points, etc. I will look up the core program - do you have to keep track of everything? I really like the Atkins diet.

I know this is a stupid question but I have been dying to ask it!

I also have a hard stomach - in fact, I am not really that overweight but look like I am pregnant and very hard stomach - no hanging skin at all so you can see my port - it sticks up. Anyway, I was so worried that I may have at tumor in my stomach which was making it stick out so far that I went and had a CT Scan and of course it was fine. I don't think my stomach will ever go down - it is very depressing. -
I am 3 weeks post-op - can eat real food - feel guilty after I eat even if I eat what I am supposed to - I am paranoid my band is slipped because I feel no restriction most of the time - my first fill isn't until August 11. I also feel the fear of eating - so worried I went through this surgery and won't lose weight.

Some days restriction and some days none?
pjd3253 replied to nygrl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went out to dinner tonight with my husband and some clients and if I had wanted to could have eaten everything in front of me - I hope after I get my first fill it will be impossible for me to do that - I am envious of people who can't eat as much and are losing weight. My band must be really loose. Thanks. -

I can eat way too much at times also and sometimes I can't - does anyone know why it is different than other times? Thanks.
