I am a little over 1 month post op (sleeve). Solid food stage, but I've been struggling since purée stage. The soonest I could get an appointment is this Friday, so I'm just posting in the mean time but will be seeing my doctors about this. I have no appetite. It feels like I dislike everything I attempt to chew. Sometimes I wanna spit out my gummy vitamin before even thinking about swallowing it. I drink water fine and I've been going back to my protein drink just to try to keep up my protein intake, but I'm still failing. I don't understand how I'll ever keep up this much protein, all the vitamins, and all the water while I have zero desires of eating or drinking. I take my antacid. 2 a day as prescribed, and I take the smallest bites, but still I get acid reflux and nausea. I'm not uncomfortable, I'm just worried. I feel like I spend most of my day stressing out about my lack of food/protein intake.

Husband is stressing me out pre-op
PeachPerfect replied to momof3_angels's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't know how you and your husband usually interact, but I'm glad you were able to tell him his berating was hurting and that his response was to apologize. You should always let him know when his words hurt you. That is not something to deal with, and I'm sure he wouldn't want you to. There is nothing easy about this surgery. This is absolutely not the easy way out, this is life changing, and you're doing it to change your life for the better. Rooting for you! -
I had to avoid black pepper during my 2 week liquid diet, but that was it.

Do you know why you can't finish an egg? Im curious since you have an appetite. I'm also on the puree stage, and as someone who does not enjoy breakfast or eggs, I will say they go down a lot easier without the yolk. 2 egg whites scrambled with greek yogurt. Keeps em a bit moist and fluffy and light.

August 2019 Check In

Thats awesome! Congrats on getting back to work so smoothly. I love to hear it. If I can offer up an interesting recipe, Wild Planet cans (tuna and salmon) are really good quality and really high in protein. I like to take the tuna, add some cottage cheese, smoke gouda spread, and franks red hot sauce for a sort of... buffalo tuna salad. -
ITCHY! Can I put lotion around my incisions?
PeachPerfect posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks post op (sleeve), all my tapes have come off and all my incisions look good, but I'm itchy! I don't itch because I'm not crazy lol but I really want to put on lotion. Does anyone know if that's ok? -
Swap 1 egg for 2 egg whites. Same protein, without the fat.

3 weeks post op and I'm struggling with getting everything in that I need a day. Water, protein, vitamins, antacid, medication, puree foods.... It seems like so much. I'm not in pain from eating or drinking, I'm just almost never hungry, and at the rate that I can drink, it never feels like I've drank enough by the time I go to bed :(. How do you fit it all in in a single day, wake up and do it again the next day? -
How many times did you have to change your wardrobe?
PeachPerfect replied to BoredCW's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just a few weeks post-op, so I haven't even dared to wear a pare of jeans yet, but I've dropped 20+ lbs and my feet seem to have shrunk 😅??? I can't do anything about the new white snake skin sneakers I got 2 months ago that now fit like clown shoes, but I do plan on turning anything clothes I outgrow into something I wear while I paint! -
Are you being serious? Which part is preachy? The part where you asked a question and they answered?

I think most of us have slight differences in our post-op clear diet. Most of the vets have taught me that already. I mean, there are people who can have sf jello, but it's on my "NO" list. It's just more bizarre here since you're in the post-op clear liquid stage having blended/pureed foods where there is a designated post-op puree food diet (minimum 2 weeks after surgery). So when I read that, I will say I thought you were skipping steps or ignoring them? I'll say, people who have successfully gone through the surgery are a blessing on this forum, but if you're skeptical on just taking their word definitely ask your surgeon/team/doctor about that and the antacid/acid blocker. Like if my whole post could be me typing antacid/acid blocker 300x I would. Also, since they didn't prescribe you the antacid/acid blocks I'm curious if they have you on the appropriate daily vitamins.

1st day on purée food
PeachPerfect replied to Carolina Rose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ugh 😞I'm jealous, but also so happy for you! I'm on day 2 of puree and I can't keep anything down. Had greek yogurt w puree strawberries for breakfast ... had to go to the bathroom 15 minutes later. Wasn't the worst. I've been eating slow as molasses, but I just cant get anything to stay down. Had not even half a scrambled egg for later in the afternoon, and I swear to you, without even having to gag the eggs just started crawling back up my throat. I've never thrown up like that before... it's not painful. Like, I'm not in pain but I feel utterly weak. I went back to drinking my protein to make sure I had enough for the day since the food wont stay down. I know they said things are different now and people can do puree 2 weeks after surgery, but I think I need to give myself more time. -
hunger pains less than 2 weeks post op?
PeachPerfect replied to Tfarr38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't dealt with hunger pains pre or post op, but my mother got this surgery before me and I saw her deal with it. Uncomfortable from being hungry, not liking things she used to (like tea), not tolerating the protein drinks (vanilla, chocolate, anything shake like really), and really just being so frustrated about it. My mom was an emotional eater for almost half her life. I worked my ass off years before getting this surgery to kick that habit and learn new, healthier habits (and no I don't mean picking up a carrot instead of a cookie). I begged and pleaded that she go to therapy because even the surgeon explains, if you are an emotional eater this surgery cannot fix that as it will eventually creep up again. I agree with a lot of what everyone has been saying (stomach acid pain is no joke and its just likely that it could be the cause. Obviously no one can tell what the problem is besides a doctor), I'm just like a huge believer in therapy, and I hope this all doesn't come off wrong. -
4 Months - First notable plateau
PeachPerfect replied to Brent701's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just starting my weight loss journey, but my boyfriend does weight training and has been preparing me mentally (because I have never worked out in my life...). The whole losing inches but not weigh could be because as you work out, you gain muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. So you can be losing fat and gaining muscle which would make it appear like a plateau, but you're good --and gaining muscle is good! Muscle helps you burn fat, so keep up the protein and you know if your work schedule is busy just do what you can, like take the stairs any chance you have, or take the parking spot in the back of the lot, etc. -

The hospital brought you a fruit smoothie? That is wild to me. My clear diet allowed me: Water, Diet Snapple, Crystal Light, any ~0 calorie/0 sugar drinks, chicken or vegetable broth (low sodium), Silk or Almond milk and my required high protein/low calorie shakes. I'm not even allowed coffee for 20 more days ... not that I'm counting ;). -

2 week pre-op diet.

I had a pre op liquid diet for my sleeve and my surgeon said it was to shrink my liver for the surgery because they did it laparoscopically. Idk if that helps at all lol -
Liquid Diet Pre-surgery
PeachPerfect replied to Alasyx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you’re anything like me and hate shakes, vanilla or chocolate, try the Isopure protein powder in the flavor mango lime. 25g protein per scoop, mix w 8oz of water and you got a nice juice! I also sometimes like to add some crystal light strawberry watermelon to it. its really important to find a protein drink you like especially for after surgery. -
Just checked the website for ya'll. This is the fruity flavor's nutrition facts. I was told not to introduce fiber into my diet until I'm at my goal weight as it will plateau me, so I personally wouldn't consider a cereal like this until then. Especially since Chicory root fiber is a fast digesting fiber, when the goal for adding fiber to a diet is that it will digest slower to keep you fuller/satisfied for longer to curb cravings.

Did your surgeon not tell you to cut out milk? Even on my post-op diet I'm not allowed milk (make sure any soup you have is a clear broth, if it tastes really good you probably shouldn't be allowed it lol --thats what my doctor says). I also use a protein powder that mixes with water and makes a juice (not a shake). It's called Isopure and the Mango-lime flavor is my jam. If you're having trouble keeping your liquids down, I would recommend doing all of your drinking standing up. I had a really hard time when I first came home. I was taking pain medication before the last dose could wear off, doing all of my drinking standing up while walking around very slowly, and I propped myself up with pillows at night so I didn't go to sleep flat on my back (for some reason that was so uncomfortable). It wont stay this bad, it's less than two weeks later for me and I haven't taken a single pill for pain today. -

I got sleeved 8/5 and doing pretty well minus my terrible sleep positions. I've never actually slept on my back before this surgery, so not being able to lay on my stomach has led me to twisting my body in my weird positions that I believe have resulted in me having a sore oblique, so I've been extra cautious about over exerting myself so it can heal and go back to good in a few days with no problems. I was terrible with taking my vitamins and crushed pills when I first got home, but now I'm on top of all of it and feeling real good about the future. Four more days and I've got the green light for pureed food. Note: Only 1 of my 6 tapes have fallen off on its own. -
Pain medication and Ranitidine - Am I feeling pain or acid?
PeachPerfect posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved Monday, released from the hospital Wednesday, and so far... so long as I have a pain killer (prescribed narco) every 6-7 hours I'm okay. It's pretty disgusting to take, since I have to crush it in water mixed w some crystal light and drink it, but boy does it help. If I don't have it I'm too uncomfortable to even go to sleep. I'm also prescribed Ranitidine (antacid), and even though my surgeon wants me to have it once a day, I physically CANNOT take it until my body is able to swallow a large pill. Granted, the pain killer is disgusting as well, but the antacid is on another level. Crystal Light cannot fix this. I promise I'm not being picky. The Ranitidine pill's taste incites me to vomit. I'd like to think everything is prescribed for a reason, so I'm wondering if part of the pain I feel has to do with me being unable to take this pill. Would acid, heart burn, and reflux pain feel different than surgical pains? Would it even compare? I'm the type of person who has to understand something to get through it. If anyone has experience with Ranitidine, acid reflux, heart burn, stomach acid post op I need some insight. When were you finally able to take this pill? And what symptoms did it clear up for you? I feel like I might have heart burn/acid reflux, but I'm not sure if it's all just part of the pain of surgery. I might be talking in circles nows, send help lol. -

That's awesome. Maybe I'm over thinking this and it is all just pain after all.
