Hi All, I am having my surgery in 2 days (10/1/19) and just need to see some motivation to help me stop being so nervous. Can everyone just provide their first 6 month weight loss stats. Lbs down per month - month 1, 2, 3, etc...so I can be reminded of all the good things I have to look forward too! I am so excited but so scared and this simple thing will help me tremendously. Thanks!

Stomach Sleepers-How soon after surgery could you sleep on your stomach?
lingre replied to TREVORSMOM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Took me 3 weeks before I felt comfortable sleeping on my stomach again. I started to sleep on my side with a pillow propped under me at about 1-2 weeks to slowly move back in the right direction. -
I am down 42 lbs too but my 3 month mark was last week. I am losing slower than I would have anticipated (I started at 346 SW on 10.1) but still happy to be going in the right direction overall.

I'm so upset, I'm a slow loser
lingre replied to Panda333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the same boat as you and we are surgery twins - 10.1.19! I started out 50 lbs heavier than you though so am feeling even more of a failure. I lost 38 as of this morning since surgery. I am trying to convince myself of positives of slow weight loss but finding it hard and extremely frustrating too as I don’t want this to fail either. I have heard some success stories, even at slow pace that keep me going - like catwoman . We can support each other when venting needed as I totally understand. I know I have not been this weight in many years so that is a huge positive! My doc also said I am not eating enough either and I do find I stall out if I don’t track my food and watch I am not dipping to low.! Just seems so counterintuitive but everyone is different - right? We can do this! I went in for my labs this weekend and it looks like my iron is low ...wondering if that is not helping with anything either? -
I am about 2 1/2 months out and have lost 35lbs. 18 of the was lost by 2 weeks post op. I know I am not supposed to compare myself to others journey but it is becoming hard to not feel like a failure. If I didn’t start at such a high weight I don’t know if I would still feel the same. I did call the nutritionist and they just verified the basics...water, protein, exercise,etc.... and told me to track and maybe increase my food intake. Here are my stats: HW: 392 SW: 347 CW: 312 GW:180 I am trying to keep my mind from going to this negative place but getting so down on myself. In my head I would be below 300 by 3 months out and it looks like that is not going to happen. I have a conference and plane ride the first week in January that I was hoping to fit much better in plane seats for. Any one out there as heavy as me and lost this slow and still made it to goal? I love what this surgery has done for my ability to conquer my eating addiction but don’t understand why the weight is not falling off when I am eating so little. I just need to get over the pace this is happening for me and just know it WILL happen if I stay the course. It just makes it harder to beat the head games when success is so much slower than expected. I need to stay strong and need sone help!

Weight Loss Encouragement
lingre replied to lingre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much for this! I needed to hear this success story. You rock! Trying to think positive thoughts like “ slower may be better long term”...” maybe people won’t think I am dying because I am not losing weight so fast😀”...”maybe my body will have time to adjust and help with my saggy skin”... searching for all the positives so I don’t go off track. The good news is that I cannot eat to soothe myself like in the past. It is such a strange transition to have to finally face this issue and not have an easy way out. That I am thankful for, every day. Thanks again and congrats to you on your success! I cannot wait to be 20 months out and look back on this post and laugh at myself. -
Weight Loss Encouragement
lingre replied to lingre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was probably at 600-800 a day but after talking with the nutritionist I am now at 1000 (1200 for exercise days). This seemed to help for a few days and now I am stalled out again. I have lost .5 lbs in the last 7 days. Trying to increase me activity to give myself a boost and definitely have more energy. -
Issues taking medication

I have a terrible time with my pills I crush too, so gross!!! I have found white chocolate pudding has covered to bitter taste better than anything and I have tried a lot of options. I also chase it right after with a calcium chew to cover it up even more. Good luck! -
One week post op and very hungry
lingre replied to TheNewNay2019's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was incredibly hungry myself after surgery for weeks until I could start to eat solid foods. It was frustrating but I promise you will feel the restriction once you can eat solids too. Just stick with the plan until then:)! -
I am a month out too and one of mine had the glue disconnect and pull away part of the scab last week. It made it start to get really irritated, sore, and a little oozy. I called the doctor today and they told me to remove the glue since it was partly disconnecting and wash the incision with soap and water or hydrogen peroxide if I did not want to wash it. Overall needed to air it out so it could rescab again. I am hoping it looks much better in the morning but if not I have to go see them in the office just to be sure.
-
Me too 3 weeks and 2 days post op and I lost 13 lbs the first week but now only 2 more in the last 2 weeks. I join everyone in how frustrating that is. I keep on telling my husband...”how can I not be losing weight? I am not eating hardly anything. How is that even physically possible”. I am so very glad to see I am not alone. I have not been sleeping enough and am stressed to the max at work so I will try to get some sleep tonight and see if I can break this thing!

I am waiting on my surgery date but trying to come up with timeframe to plan to be out of work. Can I get some real life time out of work timelines - for Gastric Bypass RNY specifically? I work a desk job and can potentially work from home when needed too. I want to get back to work as quickly as possible as I am trying to just take PTO and not a formal leave. Don’t really want to have to tell anyone why am out out of the office because I don’t want to raise any alarms or deal with any judgement on my decision. I had my gallbladder out back in May and was incredibly tired and cloudy headed for almost 3 weeks after...maybe it will be similar to that recovery? My surgeon made it sound like the recovery would be similar but said most do better with this surgery because they are actually excited and much knife motivated about getting back to normal much quicker. Would love to hear all sorts of experiences!

Felling frustrated.
lingre replied to Bridgette Polci's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am experiencing the same thing. Surgery on 10/1 and I have lost 14 lbs since then but been stalled the last 7 days. I am following all the guidelines too but weight not budging. I went up my 2 week post op apt yesterday and they told me to get off the scale for this first 2 months because I should not be focused on weight loss at this stage yet. This first few months should be about progressing through the diet phases to get back to solids, getting familiar with what foods you can tolerate now post opp, and healing. I don’t like this answer because I currently weigh everyday because it makes me keep myself accountable. Trying to make this mental shift for my own sanity though because I want this to be successful. I do still feel like I am losing inches even though the scale I s not budging. Are you measuring? -
Is a protein shake a meal or snack?
lingre replied to The New Me(maw)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My team outlines that if you can finish the shake within an hour you should count as a meal. If you are sipping throughout the day it is just a snack. I know all programs are different but this is the guideline I go with. I usually have my shake as breakfast too so I can start with a blast of protien and easy way to start the day too. I am 2 weeks post op today also! -
I had RNY WLS on 10.1.19 8AM so I am 4 days out. I want to document my journey in one thread to help keep me accountable along the way😀. My stats: Highest weight ever: 390 HW at WLS journey: 375 SW: 347 CW: 341 The first day of surgery was pretty rough for me due to nausea and pain. I am pretty sure it was just caused by anesthesia though since I have always been super sensitive to it. By day 2 at 10am I snapped out of it and the nausea stopped the pain was tolerable at that point. I have been able to get around pretty well now, way better than what I felt after my gallbladder surgery 6 months a ago. Still low energy and trying to eat has been weird right now. Just trying to stay hydrated. It is strange that is don’t feel full at all yet? I am not hungry but thought I would get a sensation of fullness that I have not experienced yet. I will post again in a few days!

Thread to keep myself accountable!
lingre replied to lingre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you Panda! You just made me feel so much better and I needed it. I have lost 13 lbs since surgery but literally only 1 lb lost in the last 7 days. Seems not possible but trying to stay the course. I know we have different programs but how many calories are you eating right now? I started to introduce purées the last few days and wondering if that increase in calories is causing this or not? I went from 400-500 to 600-800 calories when I started this next stage but wondering if that is too much? I cannot believe I am asking if 800 calories is too much - seriously! 😀 -
Recovery time for RNY Gastric Bypass
lingre replied to lingre's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I attempted to go back to work at 9 days post-op and it was a little rough for me. I ended up working from home so I could stay in pjs and take naps when needed. I am now set to officially go into the office tomorrow morning for the first time since surgery (13 days post-op) and a little concerned I cannot make it a full day without napping. I also am having a tough time sitting in a desk chair right now as I think it is pushing on incisions. Every day is getting better, so we will see how it goes! Send me all the good juju to make it through the day. -
Thread to keep myself accountable!
lingre replied to lingre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Feeling a little frustrated about weight loss the the last few days😞. I am down to 333.6 lbs this morning. That is 13 lbs since surgery 12 days ago. Only lost 3 lbs in the last 7 days though so this is my problem. No loss in 3 days at all. I feel like I should be content with this loss but I am instead disappointed because I have started out so much heavier to begin with. I see others much smaller than me losing faster on here. I know I shouldn’t compare but how to stop that negative talk, I don’t know. How can I not be losing faster when I am over 300lbs and eating only 400-500 calories a day? Seriously, how is that even remotely possible? -
Thread to keep myself accountable!
lingre replied to lingre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! I did not even think about the whey protein may be tipping the scales on lactose. I will need to watch that as I was suspicious it is the Greek yogurt that triggered my bowels to get out of control today. Finally under control again. It is my left incision that is so bruised! I did email the doctor and they responded that green/yellow is on the mending side at least. They would be worried if my stool is true lily tarry because they definitely do not want blood in the stool but they do not think that is what it is. I am cuddled up to the heating pad and hope tomorrow i do not have a repeat of today! I wonder what the extra work is to cause this bruising it wraps around my entire side from that lower left incision? Thanks! -
Thread to keep myself accountable!

Hi guys! I had been feeling pretty good the last few days and all of a sudden today I went to Trader Joe’s with my husband and have been beat down since. My bowels hate me and have been cramping, tarry poops, gassy, it makes me fe like I am going to pass out when the cramping starts. I only had a half a Protein shake and a couple tablespoons of yogurt today so I do not know what could have triggered this. Afraid to try and eat anything else now today but hungry... I stoped taking Narco pain meds yesterday - could this be withdrawal symptoms or did I just overdo it today? One of my incisions is super bruised and has an ugly green hue too. On a positive note: I weighed in at 336.6 this morning. 10 lbs down since surgery last Tuesday (6days ago). -

OK guys maybe I’m just pessimistic (I stress maybe) but am I the only one who has found this surgery to be a complete B*TCH?!
lingre replied to HopefulonLI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had RNY on Oct 1st so I am only 4 days out. The first day and night of surgery was pretty rough for me. I was sooooo nauseas and hurt bad in chest Into my shoulders. I don’t know if it as just a coincidence but as soon as they gave me some Pepcid the next morning I took a nap and woke up feeling like a new person. I think my Nasuae and pain was mostly due to not coming out of anesthesia well and the trapped gas. I could not get up to walk the first day due to how dizzy and barfy I felt. 2nd day could have not been more opposite and not sure negative triggered .My docs told me the pain should not get worse over the next few days and if it does I need to call them to check in about it. I definitely felt worse with my gallbladder surgery 6 months ago. -
So inspiring! Thanks for sharing with me. What surgery did you get?
