Why I Eat When I'm Not Hungry
Uomograsso replied to Tamarita's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate because I was hungry, bored, tired, stressed.... I was a gold star member of the clean plate club. Most meal I finished in about five minutes going for quantity versus taking my time and tasting things. I was living to eat. After surgery I had zero hunger. I drank/ate only because I needed to meet my daily protein goals. So now I am reprogramming my fat brain to eat to live. The only problem is filling the extra time I have now because I no longer think about food that much any more. I still catch myself thinking about eating things I shouldn't, but I can quickly put those thoughts to the side and remember why I had surgery. Which is to remake myself. -

My dietitian recommended canned chicken on the soft food phase as it is cooked in the can which makes it easier to handle. I have until next Thursday before I can start soft foods, so I can't tell you if my dietitian was right or not. But, the do a lot of WLS so I am confident in their advice. -
Swimming - 3.5 weeks after sleeve op
Uomograsso replied to Miles in the UK's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon gave me the go ahead to swim/hot tub at 10 days post-op, so go figure. I waited a while as scars still looked a bit red. At 3 weeks I am ready to hit the hot tub. -
Thanks for sharing. It is very motivating to me to know what is possible when you stick with it.

Don't worry about calories. Just get your protein in. My doctor recommended 60 grams protein daily. So looks like you are doing well. I am 3 weeks post-OP and averaging about 600 calories and 60-80 grams protein daily. I did my weekly weigh in and I am down 23 lbs from my surgery weight. -
Surgery was yesterday, rough first day/night :(

Are you getting anti-nausea meds? There is also med for stomach cramps, levsin, that really helped me. My pain was OK, but sipping water caused cramps and my stomach felt like it was flip flopping. I was able to handle sugar free popsicles. It gets better though. Takes a couple of days for me though. -

I am three weeks post-OP and am just starting to feel some hunger, but it is nothing like pre-surgery. I am not really sure it is hunger though. Maybe a little head hunger mixed with real hunger. Still adjusting to my new banana size stomach. Nice thing is I am full after eating 3 to 4 oz of food. I have one week left on pureed food moving on to soft foods. I have soft foods are more filling. Liquids and pureed foods tend to slide through quicker. Still I'm satisfied on about 600 calories per day. -
Pre-op Shopping list
Uomograsso replied to Pansypicker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello and sugar free pudding. Don't buy to much as your tastes will change after surgery. Check with you doctor or dietitian about vitamins as well to make sure you get ones that they approve. -
I went a week after surgery before I had a BM. I too Colace, actually generic Docusate sodium. Took two pills in AM and two pills in PM. That worked for me. Now I take one pill in PM to keeps things moving.

For me pureed food included refried beans. I mixed them with a little mild enchilada sauce and some reduced fat cheese. Also ricotta and cottage cheese is considered pureed. The only thing I couldn't puree was meat. I did a can of vegetable soup in my blender for a minute and it was smooth. I added some parmesan cheese and a scoop of unflavored protein powder after heating it up. I suppose I should have added the protein powder while I was blending it. Just do a search for bariatric pureed foods and you will find a lot of recipes. -

I am starting to get a little hunger back. Nothing like before surgery. Eating a quarter to half cup of food satisfies me though. I still have a little bit of head hunger at times and like mentioned above me eyes can be bigger than my banana stomach. But I just save the leftovers for later. Been averaging about 600 calories a day with 60-80 grams of protein. -

I can eat ricotta and low fat cheese on my pureed food stage. This has been my go to meal along with refried beans mixed with enchilada sauce. -

Surgery this month, wife threatening divorce

You can't collect on life insurance if you kill someone where you are the beneficiary, lol. I used to work for insurance company and heard some interesting stories about that. As to WLS being a scam let her know RNY has been done for over 50 years. Also show her some of the before and after pics. That was one of my motivations, wanting to look like the after pics after spending all my life looking like the before pic. -

My doctor recommended Benefiber. I have been doing two teaspoons 3 times a day in my water along with a stool softener before bed. I have been cycling between constipation and diarrhea but I think this has evened things out. Some people do Miralax or Psyllium fiber. As far as eating, i got toddler silverware and use that. I try to take one small bite every minute. -
Met my goal weight required for surgery today!
Uomograsso replied to BoredFatGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great job!!! Don't stop there, keep going. The more weight you lose before surgery the better it will go. At least that was my experience. -
I had that a couple of days ago and it was no fun. It lasted about 30 to 45 minutes for me. I have really worked at setting my utensil down in between bites and taking only one small bite a minute. My dietitian recommends eating only canned meats during the soft food phase as it is cooked during the canning process and that makes it softer than cooked chicken.

Tomorrow is surgery day, question!
Uomograsso replied to newchange16's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stay on the schedule for anti nausea meds, i.e. if you can get them ever four hours then take it every four hours even if you are feeling OK. Trying to catch up after missing a dose is no fun. This goes for pain meds as well. At least for the first couple of days. -

What Pain Medications Are Prescribed
Uomograsso replied to BecomingAnna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing I know is that it is a numbing agent they use at the incision sites. Lasts for about 3 days. Based off my surgery on 1/16 my incisions never hurt more than a 3 or 4 on a scale of one to ten. -

My surgery was done robotically so there is less bruising and less incision pain. There was a little bruising on the incision just to the left of belly button. That is larger incision where the removed my stomach. It has really faded in three weeks. I still have bruising from the blood thinner injections I got during my hospital stay. Those don't show up un the pic. I have only 5 incisions in a line about an inch above my belly button. Each surgeon has there own preferences.
