I've been doing well. I am down 39lbs from surgery on 12/16. I'm down 59lbs total since July 2019 when I start on the journey. I know I'm a slow loser and some days that is a struggle. My clothes fit loose on me and I know I need to go shopping for a smaller size but with everything going on that's not going to happen soon.

Hi everyone I was just approved for VSG. I’m waiting on a call back from my surgeon with the official surgery date. I am looking to have it done the second weeks of December. I am so nervous and scared and excited!!! I also keep second guessing myself and thinking if I’ll chicken out and just not do it. I really really really want this done because at this point there is nothing I have not tried to loose the weight. I am scared of failing I guess. I’ve lost almost 20lbs since I began my appts to get this done. I am on a daily injection to suppress my appetite which was a big contributor. If you are a fellow December surgery let’s lean on each other throughout our recovery!

I have the opposite problem. I haven't had a period for the past 4 years (thanks to my IUD) and then all of a sudden I get it 3 weeks after surgery. I freaked out bc it's been so long since I've gotten a period. Hoping I go back to my normal soon.

You can still continue your protein water and shakes when you start eating real food. You won’t be able to tolerate a lot of food at one time and will probably still need to rely on the shakes. I had to do an extra shake yesterday to hit my protein.

My water intake has been my issue too. I also hit a stall and then lost another 5lbs and now I’m at another stall. I see my dr next week for my 6 week post op visit. I’m down 19lbs from surgery on 12/16. I don’t know if that’s good/bad/meh lol. I want to hear what my surgeon says. He didn’t really give me what he expects me to be at when I go back to see him and that’s giving me anxiety.

December Surgery dates???

Hey @eporter!! I've been doing really good. I feel great, incisions are nicely healing. I started purees this week. That sucks that you still have to be on liquids. I thought I was going to die bc I just couldn't handle anymore liquids. I'm struggling to get in my 64oz of liquids. With the protein shakes I can hit my 60g. I do 4oz of french vanilla premier protein, 2 oz of fairlife skim milk, 1/2 scoop peanut butter powder and 1/2 scoop of unflavored protein and blend with ice. It tastes good and finally something not sweet! And that is 30g of protein right there in 6oz. The PB helps cut the sweetness which I'm so thankful for. I have the Optisource chewables and I don't like them either. I try and space out the 4 tabs threw out the day and take like 3-4 bites of the tab to finish it. That has helped because the first time i put the whole thing in my mouth to chew and that was so gross! I go back to work on Monday. I hope that will help me get back in a routine because at home I'm not doing much at all. We went to the zoo and the mall so got in lots of steps there and did good. When I bend over to pick up stuff is still uncomfortable. Have a Happy New Year everyone!!! -

I think it varies per person. I was told to do 2-3oz per meal but I can't even get down 1oz sometimes. I'm 11 days post op. As long as you are not having any pain or discomfort I wouldn't worry. -

Wow you are doing great! I'm 11 days out and can't hit 64oz of fluids. I hit it only 2x. Otherwise I'm about 48-50oz. As far as protein, I can only get in about 20g and that's 1 protein drink which takes me a couple hours to finish. I have only been doing water, or cucumber/lemon infused water. I talked to the office today as a phone check in and she said to just keep trying on focusing on water first before protein. You are rocking it though! -
Yes we did everything yesterday too and it was such a struggle not eating anything. I had about 1oz of very soft meat basically puréed with salsa to help moisten it and got very full. I ate that twice and was full. I have so many leftovers today it’s ridiculous. So much was food was already taken. Hoping my husband and kids eat through the food quickly.

December Surgery dates???

Ballet was good. I was able to sit on their super plush couch which helped. I went straight home afterwards. When I get lightheaded I know it’s bc I haven’t drank enough fluids. It took 2 days of Miralax to finally have a BM. And boy was that difficult. I think I’ll continue Miralax one time daily just to keep things going. I’m barely able to get in my 64oz of fluids in. I felt it when I was walking around the store today. I had to sit down and wait while my hubby checked out. I found some PB powder to add to the protein drinks to start getting in my protein. How has your protein intake been if any lol -

I’m over my liquid diet too! I did 2 weeks liquid preop and have 2 weeks liquids post op. I’m on full liquids so I’ve introduced yogurt which helped and then I did decaf coffee mixed with a little premier protein and a small but of sugar free chocolate pudding. I’m going to try a premier protein with PB powder scoop into it. I’ve barely begun to hit my 64oz daily and today so far have had about 15g of protein. I just want to chew! It’s cold where I live so popsicles or the such are a no go. I’ve also noticed I’m constantly freezing since surgery. I’ve never been this way before surgery. -

I was driving by day 5. A short drive as I had to take my daughter to ballet class. Today I drove about an hour total to run errands. I only took Tramadol the day after I was discharge but have been on Tylenol 2 times a day which manages my pain very well. I have a 20lb weight restriction for 6 weeks. I’m 1 week out from surgery. -
I'm tired of liquids right now lol. I can't wait to get to pureed! I'm having issue with texture right now. I know I can have super soft fish and chicken and eggs and at least I'll be able to chew. How long are you on pureed?

I was achey afterwards as well. Had VSG on 12/16. I'm truly happy I found this site because there is so much info available pre and post op. -
I'm 5 days post op and am so over everything liquid. I had a 2 week preop liquid diet. I'm on full liquids until 2 weeks post op. I just need something/anything textured and more flavor! I can't wait until the pureed stage!!!! I want tuna, chicken or egg salad and some super soft veggies with seasoning. I would love any suggestions!!

I'm glad you are doing much better after surgery. I have had 2 previous laparoscopic surgeries and this one by far has been a much easier recovery pain wise and moving around and feeling good. I take 2 Tylenols in the morning and at bedtime as of yesterday. The stronger pain meds I do not need. I'm able to go up and down my stairs pretty well but slowly. I don't return to work until January 6th as well. Although I'll probably be well enough to return the week prior I am taking the extra week to make sure I fully heal and recover. -
December Surgery dates???

I haven't had a bowel movement and will be doing Miralax tomorrow. My husband has to go into work and my daughter has ballet so I'll have to take her. She's 5 and is able to get in and out of her carseat by herself. I was told no lifting more than 20lbs for 6 weeks. I'm sure I'll be exhausted after her ballet class it's 1.5hrs long. I want to go out shopping once my husband gets home. Fluids yesterday were not good for me and I felt it in the morning. Today I'm doing much better with my liquids. Hubby bought me some sugar free blueberry yogurt. I had 4 oz total today and mixed in some unflavored protein powder. I also had about 4oz of decaf coffee mixed with a little french vanilla premier protein and a 1/2 tsp of sugar free pudding. That tasted so yummy and not sweet at all to me. Later tonight I plan on some cream of mushroom and will try and mix some of the protein powder into it. I have this horrible gas bubble in the middle of my chest that won't go away. I've gone up and down my stairs a few times and walked in the house. I just took some gas-x to see if I can get rid of it. I'm belching and passing gas so at least some of it is coming out. How was today for everyone else? -

That's great that you are feeling that good! Today was a better day for me too. The monotony of water is getting to me. I tried diluting Gatorade Zero and crystal light and just NOPE, way to sweet. I had some strained cream of mushroom diluted with water and that was good. I need some more variety. I'm looking for a good recipe to do decaf. I'm okay with sugar free jello too. -
5 days post op! My story this far.
JediMom replied to jlb8080's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you making your own or buying a specific brand? My husband got me some Campbell’s cream of mushroom and cream of chicken that are both 98% fat free. But I’m so sick of sweet stuff that I’m trying to find alternatives. I did 2oz of cream of mushroom thinned out with 2oz of water. Dear lord was it so yummy lol. -

JediMom replied to Kimmerz23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can take small sips of broth but not getting a lot of that in. Gatorade Zero is too sweet for me and so is Crystal light. I'm going to try some jello today and some fat free cream soup that is strained. I'm able to drink a little more water today than previously. The chewable vitamins I started yesterday and they are so horrible! Very chalky and I can only rinse it with a small bit of water. I'm thinking of trying decaf coffee with some premier protein in it. The surgeon told me to just try and focus getting in my liquids and slowly increase it to 64oz. I noticed after surgery i was really bloated and was actually up 6 lbs. Today most of it has gone away and I lost the 6 lbs so I'm at my starting weight that I was morning of surgery. I was able to sleep on my side with my body pillow tucked in front of me for support. How have you been feeling? -
what is a super shake?
-
How many cc of water could you drink In one go after surgery?
JediMom replied to Ninja-slash-nerd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I"m 2 days postop today. I take 2 small sips that I would estimate is about 20-30ml (about 1oz). If I sip more than that at one time I feel pressure and uncomfortable. And everything tastes so SWEET! I have Gatorade Zero and it is extremely sweet that I need to dilute it. I've also tried Crystal light and barely add any of it to an 8oz glass bc it is also super sweet. Today so far I've had about 35 oz of liquids. This was much better than yesterday. -
5 days post op! My story this far.
JediMom replied to jlb8080's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am taking 3 weeks off. They told me I'd be okay with 2 weeks but gave me an extra week. I can't lift anything >20lbs for 6 weeks though which won't be an issue at work. What kind of creamy soups are you having @jlb8080? -
How do you sleep? 2 days post op
JediMom replied to eporter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My back is bothering me from sleeping on it since I'm a side sleeper. I was able to tolerate a couple hours last night propped up on my left side. I used a body pillow to lean against and had the bottom of it in between my legs. Tonight the plan is to take a nice hot shower and take 1 pain pill to help me get more comfortable. I'm using at least 4 pillows to help prop me up and keep me comfortable. I'm 2 days post op
