Thanks for sharing this, I am so afraid of hair loss, my hair is already thin! Can you tell us what dissolvable Biotin Vitiman you took please?

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! It is truly helping me a great deal. You are in my prayers and I wish you all the best!!😊

Hi, I have an appointment with the bariatric surgeon on 9/10. I hope this will lead to the surgery, hopefully this year! I was wondering, are there any foods you ate before that you can no longer eat since your sleeve surgery? And if you can't eat certain things, why not? Just curious Thanks, Maureen

So I went to my first appointment with my surgeon on the 10th of this month and it went very well, I am on my way! I was all set on a sleeve, but he is saying I should get a bypass. He said type 2 diabetics are more successful in getting off meds with the bypass. He also said I should do a bypass because I have 180lbs to lose (it's hard to admit to that!) I had decided on a sleeve because of absorption issues--I take a ton of supplements I want to continue to absorb. And because it seems less invasive. To me the bypass looks scary! That may be silly, I'm sure it is silly, but I'm posting in the hopes that people can tell me good things about the bypass that make it less scary to me. Please tell me about your successes and why I shouldn't fear a bypass. I want to do what's best for me, and I don't want to insist on a sleeve if it's isn't the best thing. Thanks!

So what are you unable to eat now?

I don't eat bread and rice now, but meat....I think I would truly have cravings for that! Kinda scary to hear people talk about hair loss....mine is already thin from liquid fasting diets that didn't work for me. Lost hair but the weight came back. Glad to hear your hair is coming back! -

Really...I had not realized that, but I guess you would be having to think a lot about what you eat after the surgery. I hope that this is something that is soon after the surgery and that as time goes on we won't have to do all the measuring, logging and such? -
That is what I long to be...get my health back and be a happy person. I have to go to the grocery store in a few minutes and I dread it because I know I will get tired just walking around there. I want my health back and I hope the bypass can do it like the surgeon says!

Hi! I'm the same height as you and about the same weight so your weight loss numbers look very promising to me!! I can't wait to be half as small and twice as happy--thanks for sharing your success and congrats on your new life!

I never looked at it that way, but I guess you are right! Good to know you would do it again. I also didn't know the bypass surgery had been around so long. Well I certainly don't mind supplementing, I do that now anyway. I just hope I can continue to take all the extra pills I take now, which is about 10 and climbing. Thanks for this, great information. It helps!

That is very encouraging! I also have no problem living without soda or alcohol, I have heard soda can cause problems but I can do without it. I had not heard anything about straws, I use them all the time, hmm......I hope I can keep doing so! -

Thanks for all the replies, this is an interesting thread! I find that most of the stuff people have issues with, like bread and sweets, I avoid anyway because of diabetes, and I don't even want them now. But I just met with the surgeon and he said he wants me to have a bypass and not a sleeve, and I was all set on a sleeve! Gonna have to hang out on the bypass forums and see if I can get used to the idea. -

Yeah, that's why I wanted to go with a sleeve too. Although I just met with the surgeon for the first time yesterday and he wants to do a bypass! I just don't know if I should insist on a sleeve or not 😓 -

Well said...and you are right about the benefits to gain. For me one of those will be being able to stand more than a few minutes without my body hurting. That will be worth giving up bread or anything else! -

Really....I think I could live without ice cream, I love it but haven't had any for over a year due to diabetes. In fact, I think I could give up alot of things, I'm tired of my life revolving around what I'm going to eat next. -
Shy of announcing this, but...

Big congrats to you! It's been decades since I was near 200, yet alone under it, that is fantastic, happy for you!! -

I don't want to pry, but can you tell me why you can't eat those? Does it just come with the surgery? If you don't want to discuss it, no worries, I'm just trying to prepare for what may come. -
Hi! What questions did you have about your surgery?
mlmx1138 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just applied for bariatric surgery and was told that someone would be calling me to make an appointment with the surgeon. I am happy and nervous. I am 54 years old, 5'8" and weigh about 315 now. I am coming off some hardships--caregiver to parents who passed away, dear friend of 30+ years died of cancer, laid off twice in the last 6 years and a major fire 3 years ago, lost everything. I gained weight steady during this period, and coming to my layoff last year I really gained a lot. I am miserably fat. It hurts to stand up or walk more than 2 minutes. I developed edema, which is painful. Struggle getting in and out of my large car. Steps? Ha! I avoid them like the plague. I want a gastric sleeve because of my health. I am also diabetic and recently had my baby toe amputated. I am afraid worse things will happen if I get older with this weight. That's my sad story, but what I would like to know is, what kind of questions did you all ask the doctor before your surgery? I want to sound at least half way intelligent with the doctor. Thanks for any help! -

Good questions, thank you! It's good to see someone my age (not that we're OLD or anything) have success with this. My niece had a successful gastric bypass but she is 20 years younger than me. Still, I am looking forward with hope so that I can start a new life! -

Thank you! This is what I am hoping for, remission of diabetes. This happened for my niece who had a gastric bypass and she is doing great. I know it would change my life if I lost alot of weight but I need help, so I hope my insurance approves! And congrats on your 73! -
