2 weeks after sleeve need advice
HipHopDiva replied to Jdymitc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for that information FluffyChix! -
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH FLUFFYCHIX! Don't candy coat nothing when I'm sleeved - I need this type of encouragement to keep me from sabotaging myself! It's called "constructive criticism".

Slow down with weight loss
HipHopDiva replied to ALISON Easton's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Walking, climbing stairs, and non-energy depleting workouts are totally different from doing a full blown 45 minute calorie burning workout. What are you burning when you are barely eating? The concept is really common sense - do simple exercises starting out and work yourself up to jogging, weight lifting, cycling when you have enough calories to burn off. -

Slow down with weight loss
HipHopDiva replied to ALISON Easton's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've seen a full video by Dr. V indicating that exercising before you are able to fully get in your proper nutrients will hinder you from losing weight. I intend to wait 4-6 months before working out - until my body can burn & take in enough calories. The first year is your honeymoon period - don't put more stress on yourself. Good luck! -

Nervous and Excited (VSG)
HipHopDiva replied to HipHopDiva's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you Deedee12! -
Good Morning Everyone! I ran across this blog yesterday, took the majority of the day to read posts and excitedly joined this morning! Here's my story: I started developing health issues in 2010 at the age of 42 (207 pounds). It started with developing blood clots from taking the weight lose drug HCG - clots reached my lungs and I was 1 step away from death : ( I started the Slim Fast program in 2012 and lost 25 pounds. From there I joined a fitness group (my profile name comes from my group) and dropped a total of 75 pounds - lowest weight 132 pounds. From 2013 - 2016 I participated in races, one 1/2 marathon, cycling, jogging my neighborhood, Stone Mountain adventures and I even climbed Table Mountain in South Africa in June 2016 (African & fitness pictures attached)! No, it wasn't easy getting to this point BUT I pushed myself every day by accomplishing one goal at a time. I only post these to encourage others that these activities can be accomplished and to encourage myself that I too can one day have this extremely addictive energy again! Nevertheless, it all came tumbling down February 27, 2017. I slipped and fell in Publix's and my whole life changed. The last 1.5 years has been nothing but physical therapy, back/neck injections, daily muscle spasms, sever arthritis, lower back degenerative disk issues, pain when I get up and lay down at night & my weight has sky rocketed to "215" - my highest weight ever! Knowing my previous weight lose journey story, my Kaiser primary care doctor explained the VSG procedure, I nervously agreed and she submitted my referral for weight lose surgery - here I am!!! Surgery date August 27th! I need the support of this group and know you all will get me back on top with all your knowledge and expertise of the process. I "Thank You" in advance and look forward to seeing and sharing WLS stories!!! GRATEFULLY yours - "HipHopDiva"

No honey, you will be fine. The recorded BMI at the beginning of your process will always follow you. Your dietitian will put you on a meal plan to hopefully allow you to get adjusted to your new eating habits and you will lose weight. I lost about 11 pounds so your BMI will go down but "will not" hinder your approval. No worries, can't wait for us both to officially cross over to brighter days after VSG!

Hi jaymmee, I'm new here - 1st post! I was approved through Kaiser in Georgia for VSG. Once you have your referral, you are approved unless you run into some bumps along the way with your dietitian, psychologist, etc. I started my introduction class in March and finished everything June 13th! The review board looks over everything before sending the approval letter but the surgery scheduler nurse will call you before the letter comes. The doctor I chose is very popular so my surgery date is not until August 27th. Don't worry, you will be approved - just go to all your appointments & try not to cancel any of them.
