Thanks Nancy for the words of encouragement. I stillhave 111 lbs to lose. I have been doing pretty good with the food choices, in fact because I live alone, I tend to eat alot of the "Healthy Choice, or Smart Ones, or Science Diet, or Lean Cuisines once a day, basically for portion control. For breakfast, it's usally 3-4 cups black coffee, and a slice of rye toast and maybe 2 scrambled eggs. Dinner time is usually the frozen entree as mentioned above. Lunch consists of a turkey, sand and a piece of fresh fruit. But I'm still hungry. I have for snacks on a couple of occasions, eaten a handful of Wheat Thins with "Laughing Cow Light Cheese" Thats the limit of my cheating so far. But, boy is it ever tough. Am I eating the wrong things? My doctor has not told me how many cal. I should be eating. All he has said is stay away from sugar and carbonated drinks. Some advice would be appreciated. Thanks again. Linda -

Oh boy, I'm getting so frustrated! Or maybe just feeling sorry for myself. Surgery was 5/21/08, first fill 7/2 (2/5cc). Have had barely any restriction since day one. I have pb's twice, but I think because I was so hungry and ate to fast. I have no problem taking my handful of medication at one time, have an appetite of a horse, and am losing about 6 oz a week. Is this still "bandster's hell"? I have lost a total of 27 lbs since surg. but last 4 weeks has only been 2 1/2 lbs. I go for my 2nd fill Aug 2. Am I normal? (Boy that is a loaded question isn't it? lol_ Guess I just need some encouragement. Thanks for listening ya'll -

I've not had any problem taking my 5 pills every morning since my band. I have had one fill (2.5cc) and still able to take all 5 at one time with water. Two of the pills are large but no restriction what so ever. Hoping my next fill will give me the restriction that everyone is talking about. -
Thank you Doddie, this information really helps, and now I understand more. Again thank you

Hi Dodie, I was banded May 21, 2008. I take 7 pills in am (2 of them are large "avandmet and Hyzaar) others are aspirin, coreg, vitorin. The band size is 14 (AP Standard). I dont know what that means, but is what Dr told me when asked the size of band. He gave me a 2.5cc fill on Jun 2. Have had no problem swallowing, eating or digesting. Any suggestions?

Ok folks, I need some information or advice. I don't post often but am on here everyday reading all the news. I am 64 yrs old, was banded May 21, 2008, have lost 27 lbs as of this morning. BUT, I am wondering if what I'm going thru or doing is normal. I had my first fill June 2, (2.5cc) and the only time I felt any restriction was a couple of days later at a BBQ. Now, I can eat, take all my meds at one time (approx 7 tablets) and eat anything. Last nite for dinner I ate cube stead (4 ox) creamed potatoes, brocolli and cauliflowr steamed and a slice of garlic toast. Had no problems, but am concerned that it is still to much to be eating at one time. I quit when I started feeling satisfied, but was not really full. Does it sound like I need another fill? I am losing about 1/2 to 1 lb a week. Due to foot and knee problems, my exercise is limited. Any advice? -
Hi everyone, I was banded May 21, 2008 and have lost 27 lbs. Had one fill on Jul 2. (2.5cc) I feel very little restriction. In fact, I can take my and full of pills at one time with water, and I feel that my eating routine hasnt changed at all. For instance, last night for dinner, I consumed 1 cntry frid steak (about 4 oz), creamed potatoes, and veg were broccoli and cauliflower steamed and 1 slice of garlic toast. It is much less then I used to eat at a sitting, but is'nt it still alot for having the band. I quit eating when I started getting comfortable, but was wondering if this is normal, or do I need a fill? Help PLEASE!!!!!!!!! I am losing about 1/2 or 1 lb a week. Also last question, has anybody tried the Quacker Rice Snacks and are they okey on our meal plans? Thanks for listening and looking forward to replys.

Hey, girl, dont feel depressed. Are u saying you have lost 7.5 lbs since your fill? If so, that is good. He doesnt want us to lose more than 2 lbs a week. At least thats what he told me. I am only losing a pound a week since my fill. I dont have any restriction either, but according to all the girls on the forums, that is normal, and will take 3-4 fills to start feeling it. So don't give up and keep me posted. Sounds like we need each other for moral support. lol. We will make it, but it is going to take some time. How much have u lost total? Just remember, eat your protein first, then your vegs and fruits, no water at meal time. Later!!!!!! -

I'm curious, when are you overweight, obese and morbid obese? I need to know, so when I get there, I can be uplifted also. lol. I just had my first fill yesterday and oh how good it feels. I got a 2.5 cc fill and can tell the difference but know that I am not where I need to be. I really need to learn to do the old: "chew, chew, chew" better. Thanks for all the information and the support you are giving us. I still cant get the ticker to work for me but have lost 21 lbs since I was banded on May 21, 2008 -
Does anybody know if Tricare Prime Ins covers the fills that we need after initial surgery? It covered my surgery, but am wondering about my fills.

Hi everyone, just wanted everyone to know I am hanging in there. The knot is getting smaller, and the grip a little looser, but I'm still hanging. lol I finally lost another pound so have now lost 20 pounds since my banding on May 21st. It's getting tough as I have no restriction and the old appetite is telling me a good ole McDonald's Dbl CB would taste great, but, I've been good and head for the frig and make me a good ole chick salad on whole wheat. It sure is hard to pretend that chic salad is a greasy CB, but I'm doing it. lol. Hopefully I will have my first fill on July 2nd. Maybe I will notice some changes at that time. Ya'll have a good day!:rolleyes2:

I'm getting ready for my first fill and am wondering what to expect after. At the present time, I feel I have no restriction and can eat anything and everything. Have lost 19 pounds in 4 weeks, but now am hungry most of the time. Not gaining but not losing either. Really using my will power to not gain. What should I expect after I get my fill?

Hi kamica, I believe everyones pain tolerence is different. But, I never took any pain medicine after the surgery. I did have to stay in hospital over nite because of insurance reasons, but I was up walking, talking etc the same day. Yes I was tired and used the time for some additional sleep, but not enough pain to even mentioning. The nurse would come in and ask pain level 1-10? I would have to tell her no more than a 2. Hope this helps. Good Luck

I was banded by Dr Black May 21st and doing well also. I will be going Jul 2 for myfirst fill. I have no restriction and can eat anything with no problem. I just really try to do as he said, and when I start feeling satisfied, I quit eating. I am eating solid food, no prob. swallowing etc. I know I need a fill because my quantity of intake is much more than it should be and I get hungry faster. I also am fr. Gadsden area. I had lost 14 lbs at my 1 week check up, but not losing now.

Hi everyone, boy do I feel better today. I got on the scales and lost 2 pounds. I guess the weight I was gaining was water weight. I hadn't been taking my water pills for 3-4 days as I didnt think I needed them. Guess I was wrong. I didn't realize flluid would put the weight on so fast. Anyway, I think I have learned my lesson, and thank ya'll for listening. Have a good day!

How do I get a ticker on my profile. Can someone tell me please?
-
Kamica, I hope you get this, I am not sure how to send these msgs. Anyway, I believe you will be happy with Dr Black. I did alot of research before going to him. In fact my family physician's sister used him for her lap band. I have spoken with many people who have seen his work and was very impressed. Good luck to you. I'm happy I had this done. I just wish my fill would hurry up and get here, cause I'm hungry. lol
