Hi Chris, I attended the April 28 seminar, and then called the next day. They gave me a consult with Dr. Brengman on May 13, and they actually gave me a date for surgery that same day. However, I am a self-pay since my insurance company won't cover the surgery (although, interestingly, they did cover the psych eval). I had that on May 28 and am scheduled for the nutrition class on July 7. It is interesting they say you have to wait 3-4 weeks after the nutrition class. I could have gone either July 7 or 14.

I am having surgery on July 24 by Dr. Brengman of Richmond Surgical Group. Welcome to this forum! I am excited and have already lost 10 pounds since I was scheduled by just eating healthily.

I have no idea what my primary care physician will say, but I have scheduled my surgery without even saying a word to her. Since I am self-paying, I don't have to worry about any one's approval. My husband and daughter are not crazy about the idea but I just told them it was my decision. I really don't consider it anyone else's business but my own.

Hi, good luck to you at your lapband seminar. I am 53, and felt much like you. But then I decided, why by embarrassed? Everybody can see what I look like and that I am fat! I am certainly not hiding anything. I attended the seminar and even invited my husband to go (which was a biggie, because the weight thing is a sore subject between us). Since then, I have scheduled the surgery for July 24, had my psyche consult, have even lost 10 pounds because when I made the decision I decided to get a headstart on it. I am also listening to a weight loss hynosis tape once or twice a day and believe it or not, I think it is helping. I love diet coke with lime, but have resigned myself to giving that up. I want to be a healthy weight, feel better, and look better more than I want carbonated drinks. This is such a personal decision - you have decide if you are ready to do this for you and if you are ready to.

Hi Susan. I am so happy to find someone who will share my banddate! We will have to compare notes. I haven't actually heard from my doctor about when I start the pre-op diet, but I imagine it will be July 10 also. My birthday is the 17th of July so no cake for me! Since I made the lapband decision, I have been trying to prepare myself mentally and physically, and think I have been doing well. I have lost 10 pounds, and every night before I go to bed a listen to a weight loss hypnosis tape on my mp3 player. Believe it or not, I think that has helped. Anyway, this time next year we will all be much thinner.

Hi and welcome, Iiteachurkid! I am also an educator - a reading specialist - in Henrico County. Your date is coming up soon. Good luck with the pre-op diet. I will start mine in July. Maybe I can stick a birthday candle in it, since I will be on that diet on my birthday. No problema, though. My surgery is my present to myself. Good luck again!

July 24 for me. I am very excited and upbeat, and have been trying to eat healthy and do all the things I should have been doing all along until the surgery. I just had my psych eval this afternoon. It was ok, but she didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I do think I will attend the support group the doctor has in my area. Good luck to everyone!

Thanks so much for responding Mary. I really appreciate the advice about getting in the habit of eating very slowly. That is definitely one of my problems...eating fast. So I will begin to practice. I am so ready to do this, and it is wonderful to hear about your 50 pound weight loss. Keep up the great work!

Hi. I am also a patient of Dr. Brengman. Since I am paying myself, it seems things are moving quickly. I attended the seminar mid-April, had my consult with Dr. Brengman on April 13, and my surgery date is July 24. I wish I didn't have to wait that long, really. I have my psych consult at the end of May and the nutrition class the first week of July. I am excited and ready to do this!
