Protien causing pimples?
Bjornsyouruncle replied to PardoBird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Soy contains phyto-estrogens, which may be impacting your hormones and causing you to break out. Maybe try just using whey for a little while and see if that helps? -
Unfortunately, if you hadn't started the process prior to losing your insurance it probably wouldn't have been considered a pre-existing condition. Or if you had some kind of interum coverage like cobra. Of course it would depend on how the policy words what it does and doesn't consider a pre-existing condition. Rule of thumb (at least in my state) is that if you go more than 90 days (or 180 days if you have a policy with an insurance company and your next policy is with the same insurance company, like BCBS to BCBS will give you a 6 month grace period but BCBS to cigna only lets you go 90 days) uninsured any health problems you come into the policy with are considered pre-existing and can be excluded. You might be able to go over your policy and get around it, but it will depend on how the policy is written and the laws in your state. Good luck!

I had to do 6 months/180 days, which works out to 7 visits since the first visit is day 1. It is irritating to keep track of, so I just started counting Jan to Feb is one month, Feb to March is 2 months, March to April is 3 months, etc instead of counting Jan, Feb, March, etc since that would always be wrong. But if you just need 6 appointments that would only be 5 months.

I was just thinking about starting one this morning! Maybe I'll actually do it this week sometime. -
Insurance company does approval through a third party?
Bjornsyouruncle replied to Bjornsyouruncle's topic in Insurance & Financing
I got this from my doctor's office: Got a message on my voice mail today from yours nurse [at the 3rd party company] they have recommended surgery is medically necessary and have sent your clinicals to CBA [insurance company]. They are the ones that do the approvals for them. We should know in the next few days if it has been approved. I will keep you posted. So I guess I'm just waiting to hear. -
Insurance company does approval through a third party?
Bjornsyouruncle posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
My insurance is MedCost, but it is managed by a cooperative benefits organization (my husband works for a co-op). They use a third party company to handle specialized care (wls, infertility, cancer, etc) and the third party company determines if your case warrants surgery or not. After they make a determination they send a letter to the insurance company telling them their findings. I'm not sure what happens after that, if the insurance company does any further review or if they just accept the decision of the third party company. Has anyone else had to go through something like this? Thanks, Tammy -
How much longer do you have?
Bjornsyouruncle posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be doing this for another 5 months 3 weeks, so I know most folks are farther along than I am. How much longer do you guys have to go? -
From past experience 27lbs won't effect much. Of course a piece of advice would be to get the tattoo on the parts of your body that don't fluctuate as much like your shoulder, calf, lower arm, mid or lower back.

Worried about my surgeon
Bjornsyouruncle replied to Mommy07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My understanding was that if a surgical center is designated as a Center of Excellence that it must have lower than average complication rates. At the seminar I attended they actually presented their complication rates for the surgeries that they perform, if your surgical group didn't give theirs maybe you could request them and then compare them to the hospital in Boston? -
As far as being more adventurous goes, I think that comes with being more comfortable both with yourself and with your partner. That shouldn't ever decrease. Sex drive fluctuates with hormonal cycles and outside influences (stress, schedule, etc), so that may change but in general once you've tried something and decided you like it, you don't tend to stop doing it

My doctor told me that depending on how long my answers were the session would be one or two sessions. Mine ended up being only one session that included the therapist reading off the questions to me.

Informational seminar scheduled for June 2nd
Bjornsyouruncle posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It is the first step in the process for me. Luckily, a coworker of my husband's went through the same clinic and has the same health insurance I do and she's offered to give me an overview of the process. I'm impatient to get the process started, but who isn't? -
I guess I'll take a turn too. My name is Tammy, I've been a member since 1998 when I joined the church in my senior year of high school. I'm married with 2 little boys, ages 2 and almost 4. My husband is a non-member but is very supportive of my faith and encourages me in raising the children in the church. He's also with me having the missionaries over for meals (he's had 3 of the discussions but progressed no farther) as well as my visiting and home teachers. I'm currently in charge of planning the Home, Family, and Personal enrichment activities, so if anyone has any suggestions about fun things they've done in their wards in the past, I'd love to hear them! I just moved in December and it is the first time I've ever lived in a city big enough to have multiple wards. Anyway, nice to meet everyone.

For me, when it comes to the word of wisdom and meat consumption (I've low carbed off and on for 5 years b/c of PCOS), I think that state of mind has a lot to do with it. I'm not making myself a glutton with meat, I eat a reasonable amount at meals. There's a big difference between eating a serving of chicken and eating a pound and a half of bacon.

cheryl, is there any way you can have them mail you the guidelines for what you need to be doing? That way if you can be sure. -

NSV - Must we be honest with strangers :0)

Last time I got my license renewed I'd just lost a lot of weight and I wasn't thinking when they asked me what my weight was so I told them my old weight (which was significantly heavier than I was at the time). So my license actually has a weight about 10lbs more than I am right now. I'm a ditz! I'm probably the only person who has ever lied and made themselves heavier than they actually are! -
P.C.O.S and Metformin (glucophage)
Bjornsyouruncle replied to Jeni 85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just started Metformin at the beginning of May and so far the side effects are horrible. Luckily I take the medication at night and I don't go into work until 1:30pm, which gives me the whole morning to recover from the gas and diarrhea. At my next appointment I'm just going to talk to her about taking me off it, as long as I continue to be able to control my PCOS through low carbing. -
I'm overweight and I have really high self esteem. Of course it comes from a lot of different places, not just the way I look. I have a really good support system, an amazing, hot husband, sweet kids, a decent home, a lot of ambition and drive, competence in most things I try, a good work ethic, a job I love, a positive outlook on life, a sense of humor, etc. I have a lot of good things in my life and being overweight hasn't stopped me from achieving them. Conversely, being skinny wouldn't make me a happy person if the rest of my life stunk.

Starfruit is low carb too, and it has a little bit of a crisp to it which is a nice change from berries.

How much longer do you have?
Bjornsyouruncle replied to Bjornsyouruncle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends, some surgeons require you to lose weight, but for the most part you don't have to lose weight. I'm just ready to stop being fat though, so I didn't want to have to wait 6 months to start losing weight. -
I don't have to do the liver shrinking diet until the last month before the surgery.

Tampons or Pads.
Bjornsyouruncle replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm a dedicated DivaCup user. It works great for me. When I used tampons I always had to have an over night pad, since there was usually a leak. Since I've gotten the DivaCup that hasn't been an issue. :biggrin2: -
I moved in December and now I'm in a smallish ward. We share our building with two other wards, which makes it feel like a larger ward than it is. The boundaries changed last summer since we're growing pretty fast, and things are still getting organized. I was just called to be in charge of the monthly enrichment meeting, so if anyone has any good ideas for activities, I'd love to hear them!

Froggi, do you have PCOS? Between the irregular period and the stray facial hairs, it sounds like you might.
