Paula, you have a very valuable talent which is to be one of the sweetest most caring person I have met here on LBT. You always have something nice to say to everyone! And I'm sure that one of these days you will find some other type of hidden talent you never knew you had! (um like putting up with kids and all their friends they drag over..ahem!)

Actually it was a quiet small design. It took me about a month of working on it 10 - 15 min here and there. The back stitching took the most time, but over all it turned out nice.:biggrin1:
  7. Hey all, One of the healthiest and tastiest things that Portuguese people eat is their Soups. Their creamy and filling and full of Vitamins. This is a Soup for people who hate to eat vegetables and who don't get enough minerals and vitamins. There are many variations so I will start with the basics. The base for any Portuguese soup: -1 cup cubed pumpkin or acorn squash (Portuguese use pumpkin but I bet you can use any variation of squash and it should be nice, I know it sounds weird but trust me these soups are great!) -2 cups carrots cubed -1 medium onion chopped -1 cup scallions chopped -2 medium potatoes cubed or 1 can of Beans (your choice they usualy use navy or butter beans) (use ONLY potatoes OR beans but not both) -1 tablespoon of sea salt -4 tablespoons olive oil Bring a large pot of Water and salt to boil. Add all ingredients and boil until soft, add water as necessary. When all the vegetables are soft, add the olive oil and blend with a magic wand (hand blender) until smooth. This is the base. Soup Variations If you used beans: -1 cup chopped artichokes or 1 cup chopped cabbage or any other vegetable you like to eat with beans. Add to the pot, and boil until soft. If you want chunks the soup is ready, if you want it creamy, blend again. If you used potatoes: - add whatever vegetables you want, green beans, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, peas add as much or as little as you like, all chopped into smaller pieces. You can even add more potato or carrot if you want chunks. -If you want a creamy soup, add these vegetables and boil until soft (always adding more water as needed) and then blend again when all the vegetables are soft. The more water you use the thinner it will be, the less, the thicker it will be. -If you want chunks in your soup, add the vegetables cut to your desired size and then boil until soft. -Small chunks of white meat chicken can also be added for extra Protein. Options: you can always add herbs for different taste like thyme and parsley. I sometimes use Mrs.Dash for extra flavors and fresh ground pepper; it’s a taste choice so have fun with it. Also you can use bags of frozen mixed vegetables that are already chopped up to save time and to get a better variety. Note: These soups freeze well, I often freeze individual portions and then thaw and microwave on the day I eat them. If you make a big pot it will usually stay in the fridge for about a week, frozen about a month. I know it sounds like a lot of work but 1 pot usually makes a weeks worth of servings so if you make it on the weekend it will last all week. Most Portuguese people eat these soups for dinner because they generally have a big lunch. I also like to eat a bowl of soup with some wheat crackers and sliced lunch meat like turkey or chicken. It makes a very filling and healthy meal. Let me know if you have any questions, or how your soups turn out!

Lisa I'm so sorry. I can't imagine how hard it is for you. I love animals dearly, it breaks my heart looking at that photo. Hopefully happier times are to come.
  12. I have only had 1 fill and it was PAINFUL!! It burned really bad for some reason. I'm sticking to the theory that the benedine got on the needle prick. I'm getting a 2nd fill soon so we will see if it was just a one time thing.

HELP! REALLY FREAKED OUT - question

Sounds like gas pain. Its really painful while the gas is inside but when it goes out, its all better. I drank a diet coke yesterday (I know better then to do this) and I was in pain most of the night until the gas finally came out. :guess
  15. hum..it sounds like lots of people sent but not so many got yet. Damn postal service. Lets hope they hurry things up. Newbie here!

hi there Peanut, welcome to the board you should find lots of great information and help here. As for your question about weight loss, every one is different, I'm not even sure there is an avg. Most doctors say 1 to 2 lbs a week. I was banded at the end of April and have lost around 20lbs which puts me on the low end of the avg. (17 weeks out) I could have probably lost more if I was more careful with what I eat and if I exercised more but I'm hoping that will change soon. :guess There are some people here who have lost 50 and even close to 100lbs in 6 months, so I think it really depends on people individually and how committed you are. If you diet like you have never dieted before the band can take you a lot farther then when you were unbanded, but if you slip back into old habits you will see the weight loss going very slow. Also there are several people on here that are turtles (slow losers) for medical reasons. Many have other medical conditions that make it very difficult for them to lose at the normal 1 to 2lb per week rate. So there are many different variables. Good luck to you and keep us posted on your status!

Black Widow and eggs in my garage

I grew up in Texas until I was 16, then I moved to Florida and lived there until I was 23. I have only been bit by a spider once. It bit my boob. I had a 2nd nipple growing off the side of my boob and when I went to the doctor he had to stick a needle in it, and drain all the fluid out. Sounds painful but the area was actually quiet numb. I still have some "extra" skin that sort of died on that patch of my boob....apparently it was posinous, but I never saw the spider that bit me. And I have never seen any kind big spider or scorpian in either Texas of Florida. Only those tiny black spiders u can squish with ur thumb. The worst I ever delt with was palmetta bugs or the little lizards in Florida but that was outside in the yard, I never had a problem with those things inside the house~. In Portugal we had a lizard run into our house...some of u might remember that thread...as an update its been 2 months and we never saw it again after it ran under the bathroom sink. Have no idea if it got out, if one of the cats ate it, or if it just died there......

    Awareness of food moving down???

I have this feeling when I eat as well, but I have had it ever since I had the endoscopy before my surgery.

    Florida Bansters

I think there is a place u can call...fill centers usa or something like that that can direct you to a fill center in your area. I am also going to be checking out the docs in the area as well and keeping my fingers crossed that my new insurance (BCBS of florida) will cover things. I was self pay here in portugal but a fill on self pay was only 75 euros. Not to bad.

    Just for fun - misconceptions?

I think those of you who only told one or 2 people are smart. I wish I would have done that....ish. We had lunch at my in laws yesterday and they hadn't seen me for 2 weeks and mil said...you don't look any thinner. I should have told her she didn't look any younger. Way to state the obvious.

    Shame on Golden Corral.

I got a card also from inamed, but it's for health reasons, to show to any one in case of emergency. I guess it would serve as proof of surgery for a discount, but that's not the point, it was given for medical reasons. I didn't even realize there is another card that is for meal discounts only. I didn't get any thing like that.
  25. K@t

    Shame on Golden Corral.

my 2 cents, I don't expect any kind of discount and I doubt I would ask for one. But I have had waiters ask me if I didn't like the food because I didn't eat that much and when I tell them I have had WLS I have been offered a discount...some times...not all the time. However if I ordered off a children's menu and I got charged a "service fee" that I wasn't told about I would be p.o.'d and I don't blame ya for not going back. There is no excuse for hidden fees. I would do the same thing and just not go back there.
