I have been searching but can't seem to find a post about the swelling. How long does it take for the swelling to go down? I am only 5 days post-op and have already lost 7lb and this is showing in my face. I dont expect that small amount to show anywhere else but my stomach is really hard and obviously still swollen. How long did everyone experience the swelling?

The only people who knew I was having the band was my husband and daughter. I didn't tell my mum as she can not keep anything to her self. When I got back I told her and she said she knew don't know how.

I am now 5 days post op, gas pains gone thank god! I am on liquids for 2wks and I am already sick of it but I wont cheat. I am confused about the liquids they say you can have. In hospital they gave me two yoghurts which were not liquid form. I would say they were the same texture as jelly or moose, but I have already lost 7lb. I will work out how to change my ticker. Banded 12th May = 224lb 5 days post op = 217lb Deb

Hi Just got back from Belguim, had my band fitted Friday all went well. My god that gas pain is a killer. On liquids now for two weeks although I have felt hungry but as soon as I had a couple of mouth fulls I was stuffed and that was only water. Anyway tired from the trip so going to get some sleep. Deb

Well I am all packed and will be leaving my home at 3:00am tomorrow morning to go to Gatwick London (which is about 1.5hr drive) to fly out to Brussells. I should arrive about 9:40 with a 2.5hr journey to the hospital. I will be meeting the surgeon who will be performing the op on friday 12th but not sure what time it will be. I will report back as soon as I can which will more than likely be Sunday night.

Hi Txpeach I see you are near enough the same weight as me, did you lose the 12lb from when banded till now? I'm banded this Friday starting to feel the nerves now. I am starting the what if's, so got to keep positive and push them out of my mind. Good Luck to those who have had there's this month and to those who are about to:):clap2::gluck:

I will be banded on 12th May and I am now starting to get a fear of the first swallow I make when I first wake up. Will it hurt or what if I can't swallow? Is anyone else getting this fear or did anyone else have it?:omg::cry
-
Oh well babyjane me and you will be just hours apart with our band fitting, mine is the next day...........good luck:clap2:

There are a lot of people who have been 300lb and over and lost vast amounts in only a few months but I was wondering, how many out there have been around the 225lb mark and what has been your weight loss? Are the smaller ones of the band users losing vast amounts in those few months or does it take longer to reach a good weight loss due to the fact that you don't have as much to lose?

Hi I will try to explain this the best way I can. When you have had the perfect fill, will the qty of food consumed be simular amounts to the gbp people?
-
So by having the band you still managed to eat all that. The band then has not stopped you from consuming more than you should? My problem and like thousand of others is not what I am eating but is the amount I am eating. I have not been banded yet that is happening on May 12th but I am reading through different parts of this forum and I am now starting to question should I have this band fitted. I am having the band fitted in Belguim and it will cost me altogether including travelling just on £4000. I don't want to pay out all of that if I am still going to be in the same position as I would be without the band. I fail at diets as I am so :hungry: . Am I just trying to talk my self out of having this band. :help:
-
Hi Would I be right in thinking? If I consume lets say 2000 cals aday before the band, after the band and the right fill and still eating the same foods I would be consuming less cals? If this is so, I should lose weight? A lot of people say "you can still eat the things you like but in moderation" Surely it's not what you eat it's the amount you eat!

I have not found one protein bar yet that is actual a protein bar. When checking the RDA they have just as much carbs if not more.

Hi Has anyone found insurance cover for lap band and fills in the uk?:help:

I have not been told to do a diet as such would it be advised to do one though?

Hi Bruges is in Brussels Belgium, not sure what time I will be going down. I will try to be positive:nervous . I can't look away when needles are coming near me for some reason, I just panick and follow with my eyes every move the person I know who is going to give me the injection. :violin: I try to be brave and act like there's nothing to be afraid of but, that goes out the window as soon as I see that needle. I had a hysterectomy in 2000 I was so nervous the hospital gave me the cream that children are given on the hand. As I had the cream I didn't need to have pre-med and walked to the operating room as I knew I wouldn't feel the needle. Anyway even though I don't like needles I don't like being fat more. :gluck: TwinkleLiL_star:high5: and to everyone else:) :clap2:

I will be banded on 12th May in Bruges. I am at the moment around 224, 5'3 and want to get to 140 to start butI would like to get to around 126 hopefully . I can't wait for this day. This forum is very helpful and I am for ever grateful that I found it. I can't believe that I will be having this band fitted as I am such a coward when it comes to needles and will be dreading the fills, but my dream to be slim is greater than my fear for needles............I HOPE! Good Luck to everyone and lets hope we all start joining the already bansters with such great weight loss:clap2:

Most on here seem to be from the U.S.A. Some have had their bands fitted in Belgium and then find that they are not approved in the U.S. Has anyone from England had their band fitted in Belgium and then found a problem finding a fill doctor for the same reason? Or are the bands in Belgium the same as the ones in England?
-
Hi Thanks although that does seem rather a lot but if that becomes the only option then it's worth knowing. Surely there must be some cheaper fill doctors in England

Loulou You will get there because you know there is a problem and your talking about it. I'm sorry that you read my post as if I was getting at you personally but beleive me I wasn't. May be how you read it helped you a bit get it all out. It is bad enough trying to explain to someone when your face to face and and it's sometimes near on impossible trying to sound how you want it to sound via this way. You are not a bad person just because you find it hard to cope at times, we all have that problem but show it in different ways. You must think of your self first as you are the one that needs the help and support. I think may be you are trying to please everyone else first and forgetting about your self. I wish you all the luck in the world but I don't think you will need it.

Yes that is so true but so hard to do. I'm so glad about the baby food as I know when it comes to me having to introduce food I will be terrified. Thanks
-
Can I ask has anyone had baby food when they can have mashed food or is there a problem eating this type of food? Thanks
-
Oh great as I love it or at least I did when my children were young. I was having a look at them and thought if I could survive on them I wouldn't be consuming too much plus I would know exactly how many oz's I would be having. Thanks for that:) Deb

When I say we consume too much what I mean is, if we have a packet of cookies we don't just have one or two it's the whole packet. Consuming too many calories then we are burning. It is hard to diet and stick to it. My self I always feel hungry. I can eat a roast dinner as big as my husband and within a couple of hours I start feeling peckish and my husband is still stuffed. He tells me that one hole is bigger than the other (lol) but its so hard to explain that you are still hungry as all I get is " you cant be". There's something in your head that tells you it's alright to eat again. As soon as I say right I'm going on a diet, I can't stop thinking of food and I end up knowing what I will be eating or think I will eat for the next 7 days of my diet. After the second or third day I'm bored, hungry and it all goes out the window. I want to be able to eat what I like but I know it has to be only a little of what I like, but it's hard when you always feel hungry. I'm fed up with food ruling my life instead of being able to rule the food. When I was a child I was always being told that if I didn't eat my dinner I couldn't go out, so the older I got the more of my dinner I ate. Today's food is so convenient it's easier just to get a ready meal out of the freezer than prepare the food.

Just going through these post and I agree to a certain extent but is it not the reason that most people are over weight, is because we cosume too much. So by cutting down on what we eat, we should loose wait. The problem really is the cutting down. You should be able to eat what you like but within reason. Having one cookie is not surely going to make you put on weight but having a packet is.
