could the band just not be working anymore?
DianeAbc replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be patient it takes time for the band to work. I had 5 fills before I hit a good point for me. Keep on going back for fills untill you hit that point. I felt the same way you are feeling. I thought this band is never going to work for me. I was so discourage. But my last fill was the one that worked. I had lost only only 13 pounds since I got the band until my last fill 2 weeks ago and I am down another 10 pounds. As soon as I feel I loss the restriction I will go for another fill. Diane -
Be patient it takes a few fills before the band starts working. At first you get a fill, you will feel a little restriction but it loosen up in a few days. Most doctors only fill so much at time because you stomach swells after a fill. I know it took me about 5 fills before I got good restriction . I have a standard lap band that holds 10cc's. My doctor said that the average person needs about 6 cc's to hit the sweet point. I am at 5cc's at this point. Go back for a fill until you feel good restriction. Good restriction for me is I can't eat more that 1/2 to 1 cup of food at a meal. I don't feel hungry in between meals. Good luck, Let me know how you are doing after your next fill. Diane

Hi, Don't worry about your weigh in. It's a good thing you are going for another fill, sounds like you need one. They can check to see if your band lost any fluid. This happened to me once. 3cc leaked out probably while getting the a fill. I gained 7 pounds that month and had no restriction. It's never happened since. Good luck with your next fill. Diane

Hi, I was banded on May 13th also by Dr. Guske. I didn't feel restriction until the 4th fill. Unfornatively, I got overfilled and couldn't even swollow my own saliva. Not Good, I got 3 cc removed the next day and had to start over again. After that they have only filled 1cc at a time. I am now at 5cc. and feel pretty good restriction for now. Dr. Guske told me that the sweet spot is about 6 cc on average with the standard 10cc lap band. I am real close. I have had a very slow start because I did wait the 6-8 week between fills. I now call for a fill if I am able to eat too much. Pre opt I lost 28 pounds. Since being banded I am down an addition 20. Good Luck, Diane

Hi, I'm Diane and am happy to say I was just banded on May 13th. Dr. Guske with the Kane WLS did the proceedure at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, IL. The last I remembered I was in PreOpt and the clock was at 2:45pm, I awoke in post opt 3:30pm. I was banded in about a half hour. It took forever to get there, but once your there it went fast. I was up and walking within a half hour. The ice chips were great for the dry mouth. It's been 4 days, and I feel pretty good. My stomach is swollen. I have 5 small incessions and only one of them is sore and red around it. Is this anything to worry about? How long do you stay swollen and red? I am still feeling full eating a popcycle or a Jello, It's Great. I had gained weight the week before surgery, Mother's day brunch didn't help. So as of today I am still up 2 pounds from the week before surgery. I started out my journey at 231 lbs with my first Dr. visit. I weighed 223 lbs. the day of surgery. This morning I am 215 lbs. yeah, and this is just the beginning.

Hi, I was banded on May 13th. I have had 2 fills but had to have some removed. I think they took too much out, because I am hungry all the time and am eating all the wrong things. Each day I say I am going to eat the right things and I am having a hard time. I eat my protein with a veggie and a fruit a little later and I'm hungry in a couple hours. Yes, I eat less when I eat, but my stomach is growling soon after. I know this works for a lot of people I need help to make this work for me. Let me know. Maybe we can help each other. I need it. Hi, Just seeing how you are doing. I was banded on May 13th and am almost back to normal. I returned to work in 6 days and even went out dancing last night. I couldn't dance as much as I normally do, but I got a little dancing in. I am on mush this week and can't wait to eat some normal food. I am down 14 lbs since surgery. How are you doing? -
It's one week out now and I am feeling great. The red and swollen area by the port is better. I am able to do everything except heavy lifting. If you lift something too heavy you feel the muscle by the port. I went back to work yesterday and had no problems putting in a full day. I am able to add mushie foods into my diet this week. It was wonderful to eat cottage cheese after all the liquids. Good Luck in June.

Hi, I was banded on May 13th. Everything went well. I am getting around quite well. I am sore and swollen. One of the incessions is red all the way around it. Anybody have the same thing? I can't believe a popcycle or a jello fills me up. I started out in January at 249 lbs. I weighed 223lbs on the day of surgery. I am looking forward to my new journey. Diane -
