Final meal before surgery
Bastian replied to Welshy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Strange, I haven't heard of people needing bowel prep because they're only dealing with the top part of the gut and you've been on a liquid diet so there will be very little stool in the bowel anyway. Did they give you a rationale for taking it? I also didn't have one for my sleeve. Curious [emoji16] -
I had a sleeve then a bypass a week later, 5 incisions for both, they just went back into the 5 from the sleeve for the bypass. I'm a year out and they are a dull pink colour. Healing takes approx 6 weeks. But there's no issue showering with them, they are covered with a waterproof dressing. I had a fair bit of pain but I did have 2 major ops within a week through the same incisions, so mine was to be expected.

I'm confused how did you have a bypass then a sleeve?

Food Before and After Photos

Yummo!! I love asian fish cakes, tried making my own without much success, ended up being like fish soup when I tried cooking them [emoji23] i need to try again coz I love that bouncy texture and they cost a bomb at the Asian supermarket. Haven't tried the tofu ones, but love tofu as well. Do the tofu ones have the bouncy texture? -
How you doing?

I'm underweight but can't eat much
Bastian replied to Bastian's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So, after being in agony and spending a week in hospital turns out I have an ulcer! Took me going in to the er to get sorted tho pppftt. So now on sucralfate and dietary supplement drinks. Hopefully once this ulcer is healed ill be able to eat and not rely on the dietary supps, they want me on 5 a day plus food but I can only get 1 and a half in. They talked about putting an nj tube in or giving me tpn if my nutrition doesn't improve so I'm trying to get a good range in, fingers crossed this will be the end of any issues!! -
So 9 months post-op and I'm considered underweight. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen and in fact, used to worry I wouldn't lose enough! My aftercare has been lacking and I emailed the hospital director last week to let her know my BMI is too low and none of the team replied to my Nov/Dec emails. She sent a snotty email back saying that coz of COVID no one had replied. Of course, I'll be setting her straight tomorrow. She did, however, get the surgeon to ring me but I missed his call I just can't get enough food in, which I told the dietician in Dec and she never rang back as arranged, so I've been bumbling along on my own. Still feeling very unwell and have been since the surgery, but it's a bit like I got put in the 'too hard' basket! Any other bypassers have this eating weight loss issue?

Obstructions do make you vomit, personally I'd get it done just because I wouldn't want to risk a full obstruction. Bless you must be awful, big virtual hugs x

Has anyone ever been told they may not be permitted to have surgery because their triglycerides are too high?
Bastian replied to VRox33's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Fatty liver isn't just hereditary. Anyone on a high sugar diet will feet fatty liver are some point. Not doing surgery coz of high trigs makes zero sense hey! -

I'm underweight but can't eat much
Bastian replied to Bastian's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey [emoji846] complete dairy intolerance now so i have vegan powders but they fill me up so much i can only get 1 a day in. I'll just follow the dietician and wait for ct. She's put me back on liquids for now [emoji846] -
yoy need to treat whatever is causing your glands to be up, which will reduce your need for nsaids.
-
you could ask for PR (rectal) diclofenac, no stomach risks then.
-
why are you scared? It's just a swab. I think you are perhaps scared of the results and even if positive right now you obvs aren't sick with it so try to think of the positives of your op instead.
