Hurts to drink water
Bastian replied to mediocreoblongata's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you called them back and explained it is with small sips too? Hope you get sorted soon, I find it difficult wanting to guzzle my drink and not being able to, but I literally can't or I am doubled over. What kind of pain are you getting? How bad etc? -

oh @Billy Bob..... I don't wanna My surgery was hell, I've got other 'make me feel like death' stuff going on too and I don't want more procedures, it scares me. ARGH! I know you are probably right and @FluffyChix has mentioned it before too, but I am literally terrified of needing more stuff done aaaaaaaand what f I get stretched then eat too much? Although my weight is literally running off me at the moment, and I can't eat enough to maintain in the very near future. UGH GRRRRR and argh again. Sigh. And now look I'm hijacking someone else's thread. Right big girl pants on, will speak to my team. thanks -
From a Sleeve to a bypass
Bastian replied to Empress24's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Totally unrelated reason for my bypass 1 week+ after my sleeve, just wanted to wish you luck, it'll be so worth it, even though any surgery is scary and we have to weigh up the pros and cons of having it done. I'm sure you will get some good info from those that have gone through it that'll hopefully ease any niggling doubts you have -
by catheter do you mean to drain urine or an intravenous 'catheter'? I like that in UK/Aus we call and IV a cannula and a catheter only ever means to drain urine So i get confused with you guys lol

This has become too much! PLEASE HELP
Bastian replied to theexfatgirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What I do just as an FYI Batch cook spaghetti bolognaise, bag up just the sauce in single-serve sizes and freeze. Then when we have spag bol I just cook spaghetti for the fam and just a bit of veg for myself to go with my sauce (pasta and my gut are no longer friends). takes 15 mins from start to serving then. or I will do a big keto cheese spinach quiche, slice freeze, serve there's with whatever (fries/salad/ hot veggies etc) and have my tiny slice with a bit of salad. Again super fast to do once cooked and divided up and frozen. I do the same with curries, casseroles etc -

Bastian replied to theexfatgirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Why are you cooking 2 meals? Can you not all eat the same but you just have the tiny version? How far along are you post op? Could you not batch cook and freeze so you aren't wasting food? -
Hurts to drink water
Bastian replied to mediocreoblongata's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 months out and it doesn't hurt so much as feel like the first mouthful is a lead brick I have just swallowed. I dread having my meds when I wake up because of how uncomfortable it feels. It is like something heavy sitting there a bit of a spasm and then crazy gurgling/churning. -
Any August 2019 people out there?
Bastian replied to big_ange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
aww thanks lovely, it is great seeing everyone's weight loss isn't it. I feel really excited for everyone. I was changing the other night and hubby cracked up laughing at my undies hanging off me, told me I need to buy new ones but I will make do until I am at goal! Admittedly they are ginormous on me -
As long as you have no symptoms of a hypo that is pretty good. Is it stable at that reading? If you are having hypo symptoms you want 15g carbs immediately, eventually the less high sugar or high carb foods you have the more stable your blood sugars will become.

10 days out - What's your single, best piece of advice?
Bastian replied to RedDackel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't rush things. At the time I think it is easy to want to see how much food you can get in post-op. But this is the start of the rest of your life, so don't push things. Always try to make the best choices possible, don't fall back in to the bad habits that got you here. Real and healthy food can taste amazing too and if we batch cook and freeze small meals then we will always have quick healthy options available on the days we just can't be bothered cooking. It always amazes me when I see how many people go back to eating regular desserts etc Just an example is that a small handful of nuts are nutrient-dense (calories/fat/vitamins/minerals) BUT protect our heart from cardiac issues, compared to a nutrient-dense (high calorie/fat/sugar) dessert that adds to cardiac issues you know? There are always better choices, of course not saying don't ever do dessert again but be aware it can be a slippery slope to weight gain again. Fluffy chix always says sip sip sip your daily fluids and always get your protein in first and she is 100% right. Good luck you can do this! -
I have become lactose intolerant so have swapped to vegan protein which you mix with water so it doesn't take me long, prob 20 mins. Not as thick or filling.

The same still happens except I have found vomiting is very different now, it is mostly heavy drooling then just vomiting pure bile (I have no gall bladder so it goes straight into the small bowel just below the join). I have to say it is THE most disgusting thing EVER! It is so vile I end up shuddering and omg yuck! Obviously not much room in our pouches to bring back up so you may well find you too just get the hideous bile thing too. Saying that though I would rather a few seconds of disgustingness than feeling nauseated, which I hate with a passion!

I would def wait a little while, you do not want to get caught up in the moment and cause any leaks or anything from being too erm 'vigorous' , also definitely ask your surgeon just in case they have strict guidelines
-
omg I've done it again fluffy sorry LOL I really should read first answer 2nd! But DITTO what you said

Get some Yakult! A study was done here at one of the big Universities and they found those drinking daily yakult or similar had a much lower incidence of c-diff. We started giving it to all our pre and post-op patients. Obvs you can't the first 2 days but I would def get it in once off clear fluids, everything crossed you don't get it again, hopefully, you won't have any antibiotics to start it off. Good Luck!

3 months post op nausea
Bastian replied to Bastian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So went back to my Gp and got sent straight to hospital because I was tachycardic, which has been an ongoing problem anyway after staying in and lots of bloods being done, they think I have PoTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) so have been started on a cardiac drug and have to go for more tests for a definitive diagnosis. It could well be the cause of the nausea so I guess I shall just have to wait and see! -
This is usually made with crab, but I have none in so used Tuna. 135g can of tuna mushed with a fork to get rid of any lumps 2 soft boiled eggs 3-4 Tablespoons Low fat Mayo Add all ingredients to a bowl and mash well, normally you mix well and leave chunks of egg/crab but obvs you want it quite mushy for the puree stage. Measure you serving out and eat (my plates look very scratched on camera and not black but brown!!)

3 months post op nausea
Bastian replied to Bastian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have tried travel sickness pills and unfortunately, they don't help, I feel like this 24/7, no break at all. Ginger doesn't help me either. I have tried eating protein when I wake, not eating when I wake, soup only etc I have even weaned myself off my pain medication wondering if that was the cause but no luck. -

Bastian replied to Bastian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was given another type of anti-emetic which works well but is contraindicated with another med I am on and need as it can cause serotonin syndrome But I am tachycardic-resting pulse is 110 and bp is still high even after weight loss.... sigh. Spoke to my team and they think I have something else going on and that it isn't actually surgery related. So frustrating, so off to see my Gp today, as most days I am feeling like death warmed up and am clutching a plastic shopping bag 24/7 in case I need to vomit as it comes on really fast. Standing up is awful too and I just want to sit/lie down as soon as I stand up. I'm also getting worse rather than better. Weight loss is great but I feel too ill to get dressed and feel good about it! pah! Fingers, toes and eyes crossed that my Gp has some ideas of what is happening! -
Any August 2019 people out there?
Bastian replied to big_ange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ended up with a volvulus (my stomach twisted post-op and they couldn't get it to straighten), it is life-threatening, so I was in hospital for 2 weeks. It was all pretty horrific, but all good now -
12/2/19 was my sleeve surgery date

34kg/75lbs down 17kg/37lbs to go to reach my goal weight. I don't eat any junk/sugar at all. No sugar-laden cereals or sweets or takeaways. My appetite is def back but can only manage really small amounts. I know my surgeon made my sleeve 1cm internal diameter then, of course, I had to have an emergency bypass a week later so I think I have ended up with a teeny tiny incey wincey minuscule pouch! -
