    Pre-Op Labs

ooh see they don't do any of these tests pre-op here

What was your diet pre op like?

remember it isn't for weight loss it is ALL about your liver being pliable and smaller

What was your diet pre op like?

Interesting, because the pre-op diet is all about shrinking and softening the liver, not about future success rates etc The pre-op diet is low calorie which helps the liver shrink very quickly so when the surgeons try to get to the stomach which sits behind the liver they can move it out of the way and this practice is used world wide as people do get on the table and then have their op cancelled because their liver is too big or too stiff to move out of the way making surgery very high risk.

    The staples...

Staples? Where are they? No staples in me you see, laparoscopy wounds are usually just stitched because they are small.

    T-5 days. Yikes!

    ooh exciting! You'll be great!
  11. Bone broth is an excellent choice after surgery as it will help regulate gut flora and heal everything
  12. Hey nate, just a thought but have you discussed increasing your Effexor? I am on the same dose as you but was on 3 tablets a day for a while, 1 in the am and 2 in the pm. Really helped me get out of the pit I was in. It may just be what you need to get to a head space that will help you stay on track x
  13. yep exactly the same mine told me, LOOKING GOOD by the way lady
  14. Why do i still feel so ill. I have awful nausea even on meds for it and my tummy just seems to be in hyper gurgling mode & feels empty. I am not enjoying food when i can eat and am on very low cals. Most days around the 300 cal mark, not getting close to my 80g protein and my hair is vacating my head. I've spoken to the bariatric nurse but not very helpful and can't give me a ball park figure for how long the nausea will last. So over it because i just can't function as a normal human being because i have to lie down so much! Bonus is that my weight loss has been steady and i am almost in the healthy weight range [emoji4] Any others have nausea issues? Sent from my SM-G935F using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. Your dietician or nutritionist (depending what is on your team) should have informed you. I was told 800-900 cals a day. I have a dietician not a nutritionist.
  16. Well, I definitely had these symptoms pre-op but only a couple of days a week and it is common for trauma such as operations to make it worse, something to do with the autonomic system... So it seems likely. Having a pretty good day today, I showered and am eating a quick curry I made AND my blood pressure and pulse were much better than usual so quietly excited the meds are starting to work

    Hydration

I just fill a 1 litre bottle and make sure I have 2 of those a day
  18. hmm did they not give you any information on it? I'm in the UK & I was told why they do it by the surgeon, nurse, dietician AND given a booklet with 3 liver shrinking diets in it that I could choose from OR mix and match them. So, I could do calorie counting, shakes or the liquid/milk one. I avoided the milk one because of needing to have a lot post-op so I did the shakes with 1 x400 calorie meal in the evening. I would be more concerned that they hadn't given you the basic info rather than the point of the diet. It is really important patients do it as 'green tealeal' said above, they can get in there, find your liver is too big/hard to move and cancel the op. Which does happen! Yep, it is hard, but so worth it if you come on here to share your struggles and constantly remind yourself why you are doing it Remember 99% of us also had to do it too and we made it through the other side, so if you come on to vent we will totally get how you are feeling and can help you through it when it gets hard

    Hey All,

  20. So share your exact fears here and we can help you work through them?

    Hurts to drink water

OMG no I am not 'wanking' pah hahaha gotta love a good typo @Billy Bob Yeah I know what you are saying and I will talk to my team about it and just get sorted.
  22. Thanks, my darling, yes it sucks. I have been so unwell I am going for a week plus not getting out of my pj's even. My weight loss has been fab and I feel too unwell to revel in it you know? I bought a sewing machine so I could upcycle most of my clothes but can't even attempt any resizing/cutting/sewing grrrr The waiting list for the test is a couple of months, so I am hoping the meds at least get me feeling well enough that I can get dressed and even go to the shops now and then, or even just feel well enough to stand and cook for the family.
  23. Hey welcome to the 'i'm such a dork for eating that much ' club You are human, we all mess up, BUT now we all have our tiny tummies to protest in a violent manner when we do! LOL I bet you felt gross and it'll really put you off pushing the limits again Don't be mean to yourself, tomorrow is a new day and you can do it right, one meal at a time!

    Question about caffeine

I was just told to reduce it, I'm sure it can increase stomach acid. Caffeine also restricts blood vessels so wouldn't be good post op for healing but honestly if you could stick to one a day during exams you will be fine. Also good luck with them!
