I'm not hungry... I want food.
Bastian replied to NagathaChristie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dreamt I was eating a toasted cheese sandwich last night LOL If you're not hungry but want food it is just your head @JMA2019 it gets easier and you should try distracting yourself with something not food related that you enjoy xx -
A week is not a stall and stalls are normal with any weight loss as your body adjusts.

hey I know how hard it is, my youngest brother is getting married next year our other brother is best man and our sister is doing a speech welcoming the bride to the family. Me, the eldest however...nada, zilch, zippo. But I am trying very hard to not make an issue of it and I love the first reply you got, that would really calm things down and hopefully stop her saying anything else to people about you. I know it hurts, just try really hard to remember she is probably stressed about it all too, Good luck I hope you can get your relationship back on track somehow x

Terrified I Won’t Lose Weight
Bastian replied to Little Debbie 77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I felt the same and it stems from us trying so many other ways to lose and failing. You literally cannot fit much in and as said above things come back up if you over do it. You'll be fine -
Well, that was a horrendous experience. BUT, all is well now. My gastric sleeve was performed on August 12th 2019. All the pre-op stuff was fine and I was excited and looking forward to a quick exit on day 2. I notice that most of you are in the USA, which I am not so there are a few things we do differently. My blood's were all good and the day before my op I just had to ring the private hospital I was going to, to check on what time my admission was on the Monday. I was first on the list for the day so was taken to theatre at 0830am. I hopped onto the operating table myself, which was a bit weird, but I know some places do it this way. I was just trying not to stress and go with the flow! Cannulas were inserted into both hands and then off to the land of fairies I went. I am oblivious to how much later I woke, but I was in absolute agony and the Dr's struggled to get my pain under control. Eventually, after lots of vague voices/mumbling/crying, I must have zonked out again before being taken back to my room. Now the next 8 days are a bit jumbled and blurred. My family have clarified some things for me so I 'kind of' have a correct recollection of events. I was in constant and severe abdominal pain. I could not stop vomiting. I could not keep in 2.5ml of water per 5 mins. By Day 8 post-op, my Surgeon decided to do a Dilation via Endoscope because he had decided that I had a constriction. By this stage, I was on regular morphine, IV potassium (it had dropped due to the vomiting) and constant fluid balance. As you can imagine I was desperate and delirious by this point. I woke from the endoscopy....in the same pain, still unable to hold anything in. I'm not sure how soon after this I was transferred via emergency ambulance to the big local hospital and had a revision done, so have ended up with a '1 anastomosis bypass'. Finally being able to drink and keep it down was amazing and such a huge relief. Lots of other bits went on during all this as I had to have a midline catheter put in rather than the normal cannulae that you would have in your hands/arms etc, lots of medication tweaking, iv fluids, blood tests etc So you can see my abdomen day 1, then a few days later and then starting to fade well today All in the wrong order lol the middle pic is today. I also had a fall in the bathroom on the 20th and landed on the toilet, I only vaguely remember the fall and thought I had broken my ribs (obvs hadn't), then had no recollection of the fall for a few days lol! ANYWAY! Now the horror is over and I am finally home, I am tolerating protein fluids well, got my high protein milk made up and add it to my breakfast smoothie and tomato/chicken soup. Not so keen on the slight texture the protein powder leaves in my mouth but hey ho. I am super weak and wobbly and showering myself and getting my 'drinks' are my limit, but just trying to do a little more each time I stand up AND I must remember I had not 1 but 2 major ops plus all the stress and strain in between I am absolutely dying to taste REAL food and not thick claggy high protein things with so much sweetness. Even tinned soup is too sweet sigh I have my 2 weeks follow up with my surgeon and Dietician next week. Weight is falling off I have lost 15kg/33lbs to date
-
aww thanks, I shall follow you too, you will be able to keep your kidneys too I am sure! Good thing was I lost 16kg in that 2 weeks, see silver linings everywhere haha

Digestive tract extremely slow
Bastian replied to Tbiz68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure if you get Movicol in the states but it is very gentle doesn't affect electrolyte balance or hydration levels. If you haven't heard of it google the name to see what it is called there. I swear by it for patients as it doesn't cause irritationof the gut like most others. good luck. -
hiya, I'm now in the Uk so had it done here but I went in as an emergency public patient, thank goodness or they would have needed to sell my kidneys to pay for it lol The bruising was just because of fragmin and the meds I was on pre-op, I thought it was cool it looked like snoopy and it looked far worse than it felt! The relief after I had the bypass was HUGE and something like only 0.2% of people has the issue I had.... obviously I am a difficult person lol My surgeon has done zillions of vsg's and I was his first volvulus needing an emergency bypass. So don't worry after reading my story, I have taken one for the team if you look at the % Good luck with your op, you will be fine

Tell me your best vitamin tips with gastric bypass
Bastian replied to Panda333's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Anyone here in my county gets put on gummies by the bariatric team so you can just suck them and let them dissolve easily. So weird how it is so different depending on where we are! -
I can’t find the right protein shake!!!

Horrific GERD related chest pain
Bastian replied to KishaG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could well be oesophageal spasm which is horrendous and can make you feel like there is pressure at the back of your throat and can burn or just be 9/10 pain if the spasm is strong enough. Something is going on seeing as you have the ongoing hiccups. Hope you get to the bottom of it -
I know here in UK that when accepting a position they have to honour any pre booked holidays and certainly surgery. Don't cancel it, it is really important and I bet they will be very understanding.

Help!! I'm failing & I can't get up.
Bastian replied to Marie1987's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Is this a binge like with Bulimia or is it a binge where you just scoff all the junk food you can and think 'stuff it' because it makes you feel better while you do it? Can you get any help from your bariatric team? Do you get long term help? I get 2 years but know others don't. If not can you organize some counselling for yourself. When the urge to binge starts can you force yourself to go out for a brisk walk or try and do something to distract yourself whether it is arts or house cleaning or running as far away from any food stuff as possible? This is a hard one isn't it because it is all head stuff. Have you got another job or some interviews lined up? Sorry I don't have any decent advice, our brains can be right pains in the neck with this kind of thing! -
It's a non-issue. It will have no impact on surgery whatsoever. It doesn't affect blood counts or anything and is nowhere near or related to your surgery, so all good Just make sure you don't forget to take sanitary items with you. Mine arrived unexpectedly 2 days post-surgery (my 1st one) and I had nothing with me so had to use the ginormous hospital maternity pads They are like a mattress!!

yep even if you just do it for a week so you can see what is going on, then you can work out how to tweak it all so that you can start maintaining

Every multi vitamin makes me sick
Bastian replied to carterb's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Def talk to your team, because they are essential. I don't know if you have tried the gummy type ones? You can chew them but I just suck on it until it has dissolved and it is nicely berry flavoured. -
Just got the call!

oh BIG Congratulations that is fab exciting news -
Oh sorry was doing 10 things at once I meant if you increase the calorific value of the food you are eating your weight will start to maintain rather than eating more food and potentially stretching your pouch, which may be a problem later on So even adding a little bit more fat to each meal you eat will bump the calories up
