  1. So I worked out finally today it is dairy giving me abdo pain and wind/gas. So unimpressed. I had maybe 100ml of skimmed milk after not having any for 2 days so I could see what would happen and man, hard bloated upper stomach and pain since about half an hour after the milk. I'm annoyed because I am struggling with food options as it is, and I love cheese. I can't catch a break at the moment, so much crappy stuff going on and I just want to be healed, pain-free and getting on with life. Some moron rang social services on us saying we weren't homeschooling our daughter properly too, so we had them here Monday and again tomorrow to talk to our daughter, so I am feeling rather fed up! Any good lactose-free puree recipes, please. No refried beans thank you please

    Miserable 5 days post op

Aww lovely, it is crap huh We ALL promise it gets better! Honestly, at one point, my pain was so bad (complications from surgery, not yet known at that point) I had a fleeting thought that if the pain didn't stop, I was going to throw myself out the window!! Bit dramatic I know but hell, it was bad at the time. I was in agony for 2 weeks, regretted everything. Then kept thinking holy sheets I can't even get them to reverse it BUT I promise it gets easier. You have had surgery, and anaesthetic can make some of us feel very down in the dumps and hormones going haywire from the sudden change of food amounts etc has a huge impact on how we are feeling. Do you normally take antidepressants? I missed mine whilst in hospital, so that absolutely doesn't help with how we are feeling even missing just 2 days can impact your mood. Anyway, my long-winded point is really just the same as previous replies, the first few days can be awful but it really does improve. Hang in there, nothing lasts forever and you will get through this xx

So actually not sure if I have a DS or RNY, Will be asking surgeon 30th when I see him what I have ended up with!!

    DS reaction to sugar

No confusion I was just saying the research I looked at some said it is rare for it to happen but does in a few people and then some papers said it never happens, just wondering what else it could be when it sounds like dumping you know? I have a bad habit of not fully typing what is going through my head and expect people to read my mind and fill in the other bits LOL (like I did with that ^)!

    Pureed Diet! Wooohooo!

Ha ha so exciting isn't it! Did you get given some meal plan info from your team? Important to start getting your protein in via food once you start. I tried soft scrambled egg (high protein) and I did have about 2 teaspoons of mashed potato, but only had it once just to test how eating felt. Enjoy! Oh also if you go to the recipe board there is a section for pureed food recipes

    You're welcome

    DS reaction to sugar

Conflicting info on that, some say it is less likely and some say you don't get it. It certainly sounds like she is having dumping syndrome though.

    Incision infection?

ps. don't put stuff on it or cover it up, just wash your body as normal and pat it dry.

    Incision infection?

It doesn't look infected to me and just looks like serous fluid coming out (the crusty stuff slightly yellow stuff) which is perfectly normal. Just keep it clean and it'll heal. I have one exactly the same, all others are nicely healed but this one is tender has serous fluid coming out. But it isn't hot or red so that = no infection, just the normal healing process. See the yellow crusty stuff? That's not pus, but serous fluid. It's normal during the inflammatory stage of wound healing and smaller amounts is considered normal wound drainage.

    First Month Average Loss

Yep what Catwoman said, I have lost a bit more than average but I was on iv fluids only for 2 weeks of that, so due to being so unwell I got a bit of a weightloss boost but I have settled down now to an average of a couple + of lbs+ or 1-2 kg a week and I am a month out from my 2nd surgery.

    Something just isn’t right

Any emergency NHS treatment would be free whether you had the band done privately or not. For example, I was transferred via ambulance from my private hospital to the local NHS one for emergency bypass after I had immediate post-op problems with my sleeve. You would not be charged for any treatment, so go and get seen to and sorted you cannot wait 3 weeks if something has come loose!! I am also an NHS nurse and have worked in A&E so know this is the case with everything.
  20. So, having to think outside the box on my new dairy-free life. Got so much dairy in the fridge, I was like ooh I could have a pretend quiche, egg, spinach and cheddar! YAY oh damn cheddar is dairy So egg and spinach it was and it was very nice even if a bit rubbery because I did it the lazy way in the micro. I seem to be fine with eggs just find them super filling so can never eat a whole one. As you can see below
  21. haha I asked the same thing it is a cheese and egg waffle!
  22. This is why I am learning to sew at the moment so I can take my clothes in!!

    Constipation

If you have no pain or no urge to go then you aren't constipated. Remember on this journey we have a lot of time with fluids only so won't need to have our bowels open, then after fluids we have a much much smaller amount of food going in so you won't or shouldn't need to go so often. Constipation is when you have stool in your colon and rectum (often backed up much higher) that makes you feel the urge to have your bowels open and is painful and difficult due to it being very dry. You often have a hard and painful bloated tummy too. Having a fluids only or reduced food intake reduces greatly the amount of waste product your body makes so you will go far less often. After surgery, it was a good 2 weeks before I went which is perfectly normal. Everyone is different though and if you don't have pain etc mentioned above then you aren't constipated.
