  1. I had surgery on a Wed and I was back to work the next Thursday. There was no way I could have returned prior to that. I was in a lot of pain the entire first week. The first week I was back to work was tough. I was on all clear liquids still and exhausted! The 3rd week I was OK'd to start Mushies and felt MUCH better.

    Does anybody NOT throw up?

I had nausea badly. It started a few hours after coming out of anesthesia. Thankfully I stayed in the hospital overnight. They gave me IV meds for nausea...helped right away. My doc also sent me home with pills to take. I took them the entire first week to ensure I wouldn't throw up. I haven't had an episode since being in the hospital.
  3. My doc said I could drive on day 5 post-op. To protect my incisions, I brought a towel with me in the car to put between my stomach and the seat belt. That was a big help to make myself more comfortable.

Post Gas Pains after 5th week

Are you eating/drinking a lot of sugar free things? I had no problems tolerating sugar free prior to surgery, but post surgery I can't eat or drink it without major gas/cramps. I avoid the stuff like the plague now.
  5. How many others got a fill during surgery? I did not find out I had a fill during surgery until my 2 week post-op appt. Now I understand why I already have so much restriction & have not been hungry. Although extreme fatigue did set in so I have been ok'd to start eating anything I can blend & then in a week start soft foods (YIPPIE). It boggles my mind how different each doctor is with fills, food stages, etc...

    Filled During Surgery?

My doctor was offering to remove some of the fill he gave me in surgery to relieve the acid reflux I have been having. I opted for NO WAY (Aciphex is doing wonders for me now). He said I may not need a fill (I made an appt just in case I do need one). Maybe he puts more in then the usual? Maybe I will be one of those people who don’t need a lot of fill? I don't know, but I do know I definitely get full fast and am rarely hungry.
  7. Count me in on the whiny club. In my pain & suffering those first few days post-op, I was even emailing friends & family saying I wish i had never gone through with it. I felt like I was on my death bed. Now, 18 days post-op, I feel pretty darn good and I love my band!! Hang in there...it gets better every single day!
  8. People started commenting 1 week post op for me. I lost quite a bit pre-op, but the real noticing did not begin until after surgery when i hit the 30 pound mark. I did not keep my surgery a secret so everyone knows why i have been losing. The jealous people did not think i needed the surgery to begin with, but they have all come around & now make nice comments. One of my co-workers made out with 18 pairs of my big jeans and tons of jackets/shirts. It sure felt great giving those away. I love my band!!
  9. I wore the compression socks and then had the massaging cuffs on over the socks while in the hospital (about 24 hours). The nurse said once I got home I could remove the compression socks. I got blood thinner (heparin) while in the hospital. They didn’t send me home with any.

    What is wrong with me?

Take the scale away for a few days, get your walking in & watch your carbs/sugar/fat intake. You will continue to lose. Slower is always better, however I can relate to what you are feeling. I have been obsessed with weighing myself too. I'm still on all clear liquids and scared to death about adding anything new in fear of gaining everything back. Tonight I did a test... drank lots of water, weighed myself.... Then went for a walk and went to the bathroom when I came back. Weighed myself again and I was down 4 POUNDS! I know I did not lose 4 pounds in a matter of hours... It has to be fluids. I need to take my own advice and remove the scale from my home for a while. You are doing great!

UHC, ~57 BMI, lack of weight loss history?

I have uhc choice plus. I feel very lucky to have been approved in less then 1 week. I started the process at the end of may and got everything done and had my band put in July 9th. For weight documentation I filled out my paperwork at my Surgeons office stating which programs I tried. I also went to my PCP and requested my entire medical file (provided it to my surgeon) which showed 3 years of me being overweight (I had only been seeing that doc for 3 years, been overweight almost all my life). That was enough for me to be approved. Good luck!!! UHC was very easy to deal with.

    time off

If there are no complications your 9 year olds should be able to help you with what you need. My 12 year old son has been able to do a ton for me. :seeya:
  13. Since I cant have protein shakes yet, I am drinking 2 bottles of Isopure a day. That gives me 80 grams protein.
  14. Congrats Zeama! I am in the same boat. I feel pretty darn good. The one thing I don't get is... It seems like I am the only one here who is on all Clear liquids for 2 weeks post-op (then I can only add Protein shakes and tomato Soup for 2 more weeks). When I see my Dr for my 2 week post-op I will be asking him why. I have been reading others who added mushies/soft foods 2 weeks out...
  15. You are not a wimp (or both of us are). I seriously thought I was dying the pain was so bad for me. I was in misery without pain meds. If I was allowed, I would have taken the pain meds every 3 hours. Day 4-5 post-op I started easing off the pain meds so much and the time between taking them got longer. Until yesterday I was still taking Tylenol every 6 hours religiously. Now I can get by with 1 dose during the day and a dose before bed. It WILL get better.

    Port Pain...10 days post op

Mine feels much better when standing as well. I have been getting up a lot at work and just pacing around to ease the port pain for a few minutes every half hour or so (I'm prob driving my co-workers crazy).
  17. Everyone is different. I lost 10 pounds right away after surgery and then nothing for a few days. Now I am 11 days post-op and down a total of 14 pounds since surgery day. I am consuming around 400 calories a day and walking at least 30 minutes daily.
  18. I'm 11 days post-op and have the same ripping feeling pain when I cough, sneeze, turn wrong, walk too much, etc... I'm pretty sure it's just part of the healing process. When I do feel the pain it's enough for me to stop what I am doing and hold my side for a moment. Just be cautious and try not to over do anything.

    Glued Incisions

Mine were glued too. Not open, so I assume he stiched them from the inside as well as glue? My port incision isn't looking very pretty right now, but I don't have anything oozing. It's just red and irritated. He told me to go ahead and shower like normal. No wound care needed. My glue started peeling a few days post-op on my upper incisions. I have just left them alone and tried not to let anything rub against them. Edited to add: My port incision burns at times like it's ripping open. Walking and Tylenol help.
  20. 2 weeks Clear Liquids 2 weeks full liquids 2 weeks mushies
  21. Congrats for surviving the 3 weeks! I am sooooo looking forward to adding tomato soup to my diet this coming wednesday. I have been allowed only clears for 2 weeks post op. While I am not really hungry, I am bored with BROTH!
  22. I started walking the day after surgery - slowly and in intervals throughout the day for the first five days as I was in a lot of pain. The walking did help ease it though.
  23. I was in the same position right after surgery...I just could not get the water down. It was about day 5 post-op when I could drink more. I'm still not getting 64 ounces of water a day. I just can't do it. I also asked myself what the heck I did for the first few days. I felt like it was the biggest mistake ever. (It was my pain talking I think). Now, I am 100% HAPPY and wouldn't change a thing. I love my band! Like everyone else said, just keep sipping, even if its small amounts at a time. Every sip counts!

    An embarrassing question.

Using the bathroom was pretty uncomfortable for me the first couple days... actually it was the getting up part that hurt real bad for me. I would get a bad pain in my left lower abdomen (near the port incision). I had to talk myself through getting up everytime. Once up, I was OK. Never had a problem with wiping.
