Hi! I got it removed at the time of my surgery. I stayed at the hospital for 3 days, but I think that's just policy here. Everything went smoothly and I do not have to take any special measures with the added procedure, since the diet that's required for gallbladder surgery is actually less restrictive than the sleeve's diet. You might notice some changes in your stool color, but otherwise my recovery seems to be consistent with the loads of comments I read on WLS

Our Doctor doesn’t automatically remove the gallbladder but I do remember one of the consents last week being about the gallbladder and that if it looked like it needed to be removed they would remove it. Same with hiatal hernias. And another thing I can’t remember right now that if they see they will correct
  7. Thanks

I've seen so many comments from people who have had to have their gallbladder removed just months after their WLS I started to research why the heck they don't just take it out when they do the WLS. From what I could gather, they don't because "usually" they won't take anything out until it's necessary. However, there also doesn't seem to be any purpose of the gallbladder & if your dr is suggesting to take it out now, he might be saving you a bunch of money in co-pays and max out of pockets doing it now rather than say have it flair up in January, & you're back to $0 on insurance.

I had my surgery June 13th so I'm a few days postop. The recovery has really not been that bad. I almost allowed my fear of having to give up my comfort foods and presurgery food addictions to talk me out of having the surgery. I literally, 2 days before my surgery thought, " the hell with this I quit. " I dug deep and was super proud of myself for sticking to the 14 day liquid diet without, cheating one bit. I want a healthier lifestyle and I want to learn to eat to nourish my body not to satisfy a craving or eat my feelings. I'm proud of myself for making a step in the right direction to do what's best for my health. It's not gonna be easy but I am committed to the lifestyle change. You can do this! Don't let your head play games with you because, you can do this!

Hello everyone. So I started the process back in March, and I have my last insurance mandated appointment with my surgeon August 1st. The time has flown by faster than I thought it would, and it's really starting to sink in. If all goes well and my surgery is approved, I'm looking to be sleeved early to mid September. I know it's normal to be anxious before any type of surgery, but I'm feeling completely consumed by fear. I'm afraid not only of the recovery, but I'm also afraid I may regret the surgery all together. Any words of comfort and/or wisdom would be more than appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Hi Kassandra! My name is Beth, I am 41 years old, married with one fabulous daughter and two awesome Beagles. I'm 5'6" and my current weight is 265 lbs. I started this journey in December when I was diagnosed with NAFLD and weighed 296 lbs. I'm fairly lucky to not have additional comorbidities, but a series of bad falls resulting in ankle injuries and surgery for a herniated disc have been my wakeup call. My doctor says I'm too young to be this disabled. I tend to agree. I just finished my approval checklist on Friday and have a tentative date of June 7 for a VSG. Come on, BCBS, make it happen!

So I didnt see a June thread and wanted to make one so we could all stay accountable and have a lot of good and bad experiences together!!! Introducing myself: My name is Kassandra, I am 27 years young, I have 3 great kids, a wonderful hubby, and 3 great cats. I'm a type 2 diabetic & have sleep apnea. I decided to do this to take my life back. I'm 5 ft 2 and 258 lbs. I had planned for the sleeve but my insurance won't cover it right now so RNY it is!

The best one is the one that you will use - it's no good buying the "ideal" product that you can't tolerate and will only sit on your shelf unused. That said, whey isolate is the preferred as it is the most absorbable, with the whey "blends" and "concentrates" being a notch or two lower, but will still work. Experiment now, try sample packs from different vendors, aim for isolates if you can but go with what you prefer, don't stock up too much as your tastes may change post-op (and they may not...) so if you have a few different ones on hand that are OK with you, you should be fine for a while.

I used the Premier Protein ready made stuff. If you have a costco, they sell the vanilla & chocolate by the case.
IF you're a coffee drinker & IF you're allowed to have it - I've done a lot of Starbucks "hacks" to get me through. Two shots of espresso in a venti iced cup with ice. Then pour a premier Protein Shake on top & mix it up. Delicious. I've also added a tablespoon of Torani sugar free Syrup to play with flavors & sweetness. Starbucks does have a couple sugar free syrup options as well.

There's a powdered Peanut Butter that is not terrible. If you get a little bullet type blender & add a scoop & your Protein shake & blend, that's a decent option.

The powdered Proteins are reallll trial & error. Both by brands & then just experimenting with them & how they'll dissolve for you. Look on YouTube too for videos about this! I found I was attempting to mix the powdered protein into my coffee all wrong. It would just curdle & was disgusting. If you put it in a shaker cup & add 2oz of milk and then shake it first, then add the coffee & shake again - much better.

There are also some Premier Protein clear drinks you can try & I really like Protein20 waters. One important thing - what tastes good to you during pre-op might not taste so good after. So try to buy just enough to test out & have on hand for after. I didn't mind the clear Premier Protein before surgery. Now it's just kinda ick. I can dilute it way down but, heh. I'd rather just drink Water & get that protein & calories elsewhere.

I timed my bites with the timer on my watch, and still do (I'm 7.5 months post op). In the earlier months it was about 15 mins minimum between 1-2 bites. Now I do 7-10 minutes between every 4-5 bites.
Oh, and put down your fork/spoon/whatever between bites. And in the beginning, eat at the table and not in front of a screen or on the go to get yourself into the habit of slowing down.

    Hey NC Friends!
I live in Jacksonville, but I am going through the REX Bariatric Program in Raleigh. I still have some time to go, but it's I could have surgery as early as December. As long as all the testing is done by October, my surgeon told me I will be looking at a December surgery! Very excited! And a huge congratulations to everyone here, I wish you the best of luck!
