Different Doctors, Different Post-Op Diets: What's Up With That?!
sistasassy replied to Waylon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor is very very tight on his pre-op diet because he wants your liver shrunk as much as possible to make your surgery safer. Post-op he was much easier. He wanted me on liquids for two weeks then mushies for two weeks but his idea of mushies was anything that I could puree. I do recommend that you follow what your doctors asks of you and that you not find one on here and go with it just out of convenience. Your doctor is going to be working with you for a long time and you want to build trust and confidence between the two of you. If my doctor tells me I can't do something, I know he is telling me that because he has reason to believe it is for my own good. If I tell him something, he can trust that I am being honest and not manipulating the system and that there are no surprises down the road for him. You want that good relationship. -
How are all the Mattoon area bandsters doing? I am doing well. I am down 63.5 lbs and feeling pretty awesome. I have more to go but am looking forward to the journey ahead. Perhaps we should get together sometime.

I'm missing veggies
sistasassy replied to 2911plans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have learned that, if need be, I could mash, blend, puree, or pulverize anything into a mushy and with a bit of broth or gravy it turns out nice and tasty. Let your inner creativity fly! -
I agree with Monkey. I am finally at my sweet spot and it took just the tiniest fill to get me there. I have 5.75cc in a 10 cc band. I had had to have .25cc taken out (I was at 6cc after a .75cc fill) because I was too full. When we get close to the sweet spot it is a matter of fine tuning and you may need a bit added back in.

I would definitely go back into the doctor and keep working at it. I would ask about a leak and then I would get into the nutritionist and see if there is a change that needs to be made there. You have come too far to give up now. You have lost a great deal of weight and you can succeed.

I don't avoid carbs but I do keep them low. I try to eat good carbs but love chips and salsa so I do not always avoid them. I also have a chocolate milkshake here or there so there are more carbs. I don't seem to lose without a few carbs here or there. I do eat fresh fruit and veggies as much as I can.

Well, here I am! I hate sharing this heavy picture but it does show the beginning of my journey. I have come a long way in a short amount of time. Still a bit to go but I am seeing it happen everyday.

Should I gain weight?!?!?
sistasassy replied to david6789's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that gaining 5 lbs or so would be ok but 20 is alot. You could really hurt yourself by gaining 20. -
I am overweight!! Woo-hoo! :)

How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
sistasassy replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My weight loss has really only stalled when I am not eating enough. If I am too tight or swollen for some reason, I know the scales won't move. If I am eating, they will. I know I will hit a point where I am going to be required to boost my activity level but I think for now it is pretty good. I think the painting must be activity enough for now. -

Unexpected side effects of losing weight.
sistasassy replied to mich's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My face is looking much longer and I have dropped a size and a half in shoes! I am losing crazy sizes in clothes and am having trouble keeping up. I literally had a four foot mountain of clothes on the floor the other day after cleaning out my closet. I am also having to keep close track of my wedding rings so they don't fall off. I plan to have those altered later when I am done losing. -

How are the banded Notorious Novembers???
sistasassy replied to mljalways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To be quite honest, no exercising. I paint about three days a week but that is pretty much it. I have been learning, like we all have. I think it is constant persevence and sensible balanced food choices. Basically, I eat healthy and, if I lose a couple of pounds I treat myself to a chocolate milkshake. Depending on how many pounds I lose determines the size ofshake I get! I try to keep the healthy balance but also the psychological balance. Chocolate balances that for me! -
I don't think you are eating around the band unless you are eating mainly mushies and bad stuff. Are you keeping your calories around 1200? Are you keeping your fat low? Are you drinking enough Water? You need water to flush the bad stuff out. A few things to consider.

Does anyone PLAN on having the band removed once they reach their goal?
sistasassy replied to sarae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe everyone is right about a) being ready to get banded and; :grouphug: being aware that something can go wrong, and at times, does. I, too, have been doing my research on the sleeve "just in case." My personal two cents: I would much rather be banded and pregnant than bypassed and pregnant. Sleeved, I don't know about. -
I finally made it to Stage Solids!
sistasassy replied to christan007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anything that will go down. Aim for healthy. Eat your proteins first, then veggies, the, if you have room, starches. Just eat slowly and carefully. You may have some restriction from post-op swelling. -
First fill (yay!) But only 2cc?
sistasassy replied to FarmGirl7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 3cc put in at my first fill, was in the ER later that night unable to swallow even my own saliva, had 1cc taken out and now only get between .25cc to .75cc per fill. It is not the amount of the fill, it is the amount of slowly gained restriction you have. Give it time and you will there. -
Amen! I'll help you dig a hole if you need one though. =o)

I get the same thing with high fat meals now too. And LOL @ Poop post and Poopologist!

When do you eat your last meal?
sistasassy replied to hollisterblondie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mine was the night before surgery. I had been on my pre-op diet for 10 days and my surgeon said to go ut and have whatever I wanted. We went to Chili's. Check with your surgeon and see what he advise. -
2 weeks post op and failing :(
sistasassy replied to RNmomtothree's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hang in there. You are not failing. You are exactly where they say you are, in Bandster Hell. You may not get restriction for a fill or two or even three but you WILL get restriction sooner or later and when you do, you can kiss most unhealthy foods goodbye. My band, Gizmo, hates pizza and chicken and hamburger and hot dogs and bread and french fries and cake and Cookies. If I shove it down to him, he throws a massive fit and sends it back up. NOW, that being said, he does like chocolate and ice cream and milkshakes and anything creamy so I have to be careful not to overfeed him or he will get spoiled and send it all to storage. He can be a pack rat at times. Ultimately, it comes down to me. I have to be the deciding force for us. Name him, name him now, and then make him your best friend. Treat him well and he will begin to return the favor. =o) Ok, I finally had a decent meal tonight. Had Cajun Lime Tilapia, Loaded Mashed Potatoes, Steamed Broccoli, a shrimp, and a couple of chips with artichoke dip. Oh yea, and some Mango Lemonade. Went to Applebee's. First meal I have kept all down in months. I FINALLY am learning how to take small bites, eat slow, and chew chew chew. I only ate abit of each and have tons in a take- home box but I hit the all elusive soft stop tonight and was pretty dern proud about it. See, I am still learning too. Its a work in progress. =o)
