  1. Liquid will wash the food right through your band and you will lose that full filling sooner.

    NSV- MRI scan

That is awesome! I won't use the closed MRI even when I am thin. WAAAAAy to claustrophobic. I go to the open MRI instead. It is like being slid in between to hamburger buns. It is open on both sides and the room has two all glass walls to see outside and a stained glass ceiling that lets in all natural light. You can take your favorite cd with you and even take a person in with you. Its awesome. They have colored sheets, too. Not just those plain ole white hospital ones. I tried the closed one and came out shaking from head to toe and almost hysterical. I was only in the silly machine for about 30 seconds! I ran all the way out to my husband and begged him not to let them put me back in. The tech said "Without a doubt, schedule her for an open MRI from now on."
  3. The doctor is not really the one that you should worry about. They are pretty willing to do the surgery most of the time, from what I am seeing on here. You should find out what your insurance company will require though. They may be the tricky ones.

    Anyone else noticed?

I know that when I have my surgery I will have temptations BUT I am not making this change in my life just to screw myself up after surgery. I think some still expect the band to do all the work. I know that it will be a journey with me and the band but with ME at the wheel. That band will only go where I lead it. Sad to see so many who you can tell are blatantly ignoring doctor's orders.

I hate it when people post just to post.....

Why is shepard's pie called pie when it is really a casserole?

I had my gallbladder ultrasound today and thought I would pass out. She had me hold my breath.... lots of times....too weird. Anyone know why?
  7. So I am getting ready for my psych evaluation today and just enjoying the peace of being alone in my room (I have five kids and am sitting this summer for my niece and nephew). I put my hair up, got it all nice and curled and pretty for the day.....and ran out of hair spray. Luckily, I had bought another can so I grabbed it, ripped the lid off, shut my eyes and sprayed. Almost immediately, I noticed that it sprayed different (kind of like when the hairspray nozzle is full of hair spray) but I sprayed anyway. I finished, opened my eyes, and ..... MY HEAD WAS WHITE! I had inadvertantly bought mousse. It is in the same shaped can as my hairspray, same color and everything. There was a big ole 60% off label over the area that says mousse. Needless to say, I was shocked. I have now cleaned myself up and everything that was behind me. I am once again ready to go to my appointment. Perhaps I will tell my shrink this story......then again, today, perhaps I won't. :cursing:
  8. From what I am understanding, after Lap Band surgery, the doc will usually do no fill or not much of a fill. Then, even though you may still have very little restriction, your first few fills may not be very much, I am assuming because the doc is wanting you to get used to the progressive restriction (thereby reducing the amount of problems adjusting) rather than just dumping it all in you at once. Is this correct?

I love Laughing Cow cheese. I certainly don't want Grumpy Cow cheese.

    Mattoon area bandsters??

I have been practicing chewing and sipping to kind of get the hang of it. It takes more concentration than you would think! I need to lose about 90 total. I would be happy there but if it is a bit more or a bit less, I would be okay with that too. I just want to be healthy. I ache quite a bit and I can't do the things that the rest of my family can. Have you had any problems with your band at all?

    Hysterectomy, anyone?

My hysterectomy was the best thing I ever did. I kept my ovaries. I was 34 at the time. I was in the hospital for 3 days total and on Tylenol when I came home. I walked everyday (in the beginning it was just to the corner and back). I was back in college full-time that summer (3 weeks post-op) and took an overload of classes since I was off work. Healed great and have never regretted it once.

    So Sad Another 3-4 Weeks

I had my psych exam on the 4th of this month and had to start calling because it still was not at my surgeon's office yet. Found out that the psych doc lost the paperwork that included all the information that needed to be in his letter and they had lost the fax number. I had to give them the info again and still had to call back daily until it was finally dictated. Turns out he dictated it on this past Friday and left for vacation. It now sits in his box waiting to be signed NEXT Monday when he returns. Irritating but a few days more won't matter much. Just should have been done and in my surgeon's hands two weeks ago.

    Mattoon area bandsters??

I am hoping to get my band in July or August. I have completed what is needed for insurance purposes and now waiting on approval before I can complete my testing. My doc is figuring that all will go well. I would love to know how well you and your friend have done with the band. It would be so nice to have others who have gone through this around me.

    Want to change the "focus"

I know that, right now, almost everything outfit I wear has at least one article of black clothing. Black is slimming and also makes you sort of invisible because people are drawn to color. My pastor said that once I begin to lose weight, he expects more color in my wardrobe. Color enlightens the inner spirit as well and gives you confidence. My secret sister at church just bought me an outfit that is 2 sizes too small for me. It has more color and is beautiful. She said it is for when I start to lose weight. I have a funny feeling there will be lots more to come of that from people at my church.

    Haven't told my hubby :-(

I told my hubby right away and, once that I had begun the process, told my children (ages 16, 14, 13, 12 and 12). I felt that they should know that a) I was doing something that would help me to lose weight and live a longer life and  that it was not okay to become this heavy because it can develop into serious health problems. One of my sons (the 13 year old) is a bit (not much) overweight and has been going with me to all of my appointments. He has been learning alot. I have noticed him making better food choices. The other four are right where they should be. I wanted my family to know what I was doing and why. When you give them the "why" then they know it is not just to be the skinny girl on the block or to show off or have guys (or girls) drooling after you. You give them the "why" and they know that you want to be healthy and live a long life to be with them.

Should I be a witch, or no?

I would take the humble side, give her the desk, and be done with it. Once the desk is gone, you never have to deal with her again. You can then get on with your life and start letting it all go. That would be the easiest way. I do understand the angry side. Been there myself, but it is much easier in the long run to just let it go. Concentrate on the fact that you have your space back and that it is now clean!

    More tests.

My insurance only needs a psych eval and a meeting with the nutritionist BUT my surgeon has a whole list a test he wants me to do...just like you. The only thing I do not have to do is the supervised diet. Still, it is hoop after hoop. Hang in there. It won't be long and you will be banded. Your time is coming quickly and then you can breathe a sigh of relief.

    Rename Rants & Raves Board

Oh yeah, I am feeling much better now. I was on Lorazepam for a while and found that it puts me into an extremely foul mood. I will cry and cry for hours. I even told them this at the hospital last week. What did they do after that? Gave me Lorazepam. My doctor got wind of it when we got home and gave the hospital "what for" because of it. I was a mess for about 48 hours. Not sure what set it off. I wish I could isolate the trigger so I could avoid them. So far, no luck. Which antidepressant do you take? I take Cymbalta and love it. I take it at night before I go to bed.

    Rename Rants & Raves Board

Round and round the block we go just to watch the show. Kind of like the other day at my house. I had another stupid panic attack (my meds didn't stop this one at all). Ended up that my son called an ambulance because of the chest pain I get with it and there were sirens everywhere. You can never just get a nice quiet little ambulance around here. Gotta have the ambulance, fire and rescue, and the police AND this lucky time they even sent a fire truck because....well, I am not sure why. Talk about feeling stupid when they wheel you out. The whole neighborhood and all the strays out there on the sidewalk to see what happened. Oh well, would have been me if it was someone else. Having everyone stare at me is almost worse than the panic attack itself! :crying:

I tell ya, I think some of those posts are definately for shock value and just to see what can be started. Kind of like going out looking for a fight and not really caring who with. I think it is definately interesting at times.

    Mattoon area bandsters??

Hi Penny! I am from Mattoon. Not banded yet though. Had my psych eval and nutritionist appt. Waiting on my psych eval to get to my surgeon so he can send everything off for approval. Sigh.......waiting is HARD! I heard their is a girl out at Consolidated who has the band. Her name is Lisa something but I have not met her. Would LOVE to find more in our area! Teri
  23. I believe that I read that it is because warm fluids relax the muscles and cold fluids cause the muscles to contract. Weird.

    coming out of the closet...

My HCG levels were so low that no one believed I was pregnant until I was 12 weeks along and they saw him on an ultrasound. I tested totally negative on about 6 urine tests and 4 blood tests. I knew all along that I was pregnant and that he was fine. I could just feel it. Don't worry about those levels unless something else freaky is happening as well. Our bodies do their own thing.
  25. I would assume that getting approved for the gastric bypass surgery would be very similar to being approved for the lap band. You would need to find a surgeon and then go from there. You do know that this site it primarily dedicated to the Lap Band and not to gastric bypass and that they are two totally different things?
