How exciting! I am glad it went well. Sorry for your gas pain. Get some rest and let us know all about it soon! Congrats!

I live in Illinois and have no comorbidities and barely reach a BMI of 40. I am under 40 now that I am on my one week pre-op diet. Medicaid only took a week to approve me once they had my paperwork. Very easy to get approved. It means a healthier you and less bills later on if you are thinner.

started liquid diet today
sistasassy replied to Denee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on liquid pre-op diet as well. Mine includes fruit, lite yogart, and cottage cheese as well. It is basically all liquids though. I am doing pretty well other than being a little cranky today. My surgery is on Tuesday, November 11. I am in the home stretch now! I have been making virgin Bloody Marys, coffee with SF creamer, Protein shakes, Crystal Light, and anything else I can find that is SF. I have basically tried to lump them into meal type settings and then keep liquids going in between times. It seems to take the edge off. I am also just avoiding the kitchen at this point so I don't drool on any ole thing sitting on the counter. -
Congrats! That is so exciting! One week from today is my turn! Veteran's Day, here I come! Pre-op diet is stinkin' today. My family is eating food that smells soooooo good! Oh well, it will be worth it. I am just sort of hiding in the bedroom watching the election and surfing the web.

Should Medicare/Medicaid cover the band?
sistasassy replied to wrk-n-prgrss's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Whatever. You can choose to read my post in a negative manner I suppose. You have accomplished something great is saving for your surgeries. I wish I could have done the same. Congrats on how well you have done! -
Today is the day!!!
sistasassy replied to brownskin82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah! I am so excited for you! I get banded next Tuesday (11th) and think I may explode from excitement before then. Let us know how it goes and congrats on your big day! -
Breaking the need to eat something crunchy is a bit odd for me on this diet. I am a crunch-o-holic. I am hanging in there because the end result will be well worth it but crunchy would be nice. My diet is mostly liquid with a bit of fruit, yogurt, and cottage cheese. Rather boring but doing the trick.

When I lost weight once before, I lost a lot of my boobs. They just looked like empty boob tubes!

I went for my last pre-op appointments today. I met with my surgeon and then met with pre-admissions. I am to do 7 days of mostly liquid diet. I am to be at the hospital at 6:30 am and my surgery is at 7:30 am. I am to pack a bag to stay the night BUT, if I do extremely well, I MAY get to go home that day. I am so excited to be in the final countdown!

My mouth would have probably overrode my brain on this one. How inappropriate of her. The quality of management and the degree of professionalism has declined so much in the past years. I would probably have offered to staple her mouth for her so she would have time to think about how to shut up. Sorry, having one of the not so polite days. In reality I would have probably just looked at her and then walked away seething and dreaming of smacking her with the stapler or something.

Poll: Question For Pro-choicers?.
sistasassy replied to ELENATION's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I guess that I can post to this as I am in a sense "Pro-Choice - The Choice being Life". I choose life IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. By that I mean that if a baby (yes, I believe it is a baby at conception no matter what science says) is alive in the uterus and the mother is in no horrible danger, the baby should come into this world. If you don't wish to raise the child, give the baby up. So many people are childless and would love to raise a baby. I was unmarried and in a terrible relationship when I found out I was pregnant with my first son. I never even considered abortion as an option. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer just before I found out I was pregnant with my second son. I was asked if I wished to abort so that I could receive treatment. My answer was no. No thinking about it. No thought for myself. Yes, it is my body. I have the "right" to do what I want to do with it. I do not feel that those rights extend to doing what I want to the unborn person inside of me. That child has rights too whether they are defined by the law or not. I know a little boy in my church who was born at 23 weeks, believe it or not. He weighed a meager 11 ounces. He was in the hospital for 4 months and his parents were told he would not make it. He was "barely" alive. He had a number of surgeries early on to correct a issues and problems. He is now almost 10 years old and is is doing well in school although he has a slight learning disability. He is working just barely below is grade level and gaining ground each year. He has two brothers who were born after him at 26 weeks each who did each weighed twice his birth weight. Both did not make it. One died at birth and one died when he was four months old. Another family I know lost a full term baby 2 months after she was born healthy as can be to SIDS. My thought is, who are we to decide who is "viable" and who is not? Now, now, now, before anyone draws their guns, I am just expressing an opinion and not trying to pick a fight in anyway. Please do not take my post as an attack. It is not meant in that way. Just my view is all. Feel free to ignore it if you wish and move on. I in no way am trying to be ugly to anyone or knock anyone's view. -
how long have you been told
sistasassy replied to Denee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am told my surgery will take about 30 minutes. I have no idea how long I will be in recovery but then I am staying overnight. My doc keeps everyone overnight just to be safe. -
Breastfeeding in public:
sistasassy replied to Wheetsin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I breastfed my children. I was "gifted" with rather large breasts even before I was overweight so when I fed my children, there was no hiding it without light baby blanket to cover. My children were also the type to eat a bit and then want to look around for a second. They also had a number of allergies and stuffy noses. Had I fed them in a public place, I would have been TOTALLY exposed quite often. I feel that it becomes inappropriate at that point. It is not just a matter of what our rights are or how natural it is. It is a matter if not causing others to be uncomfortable either. I have the right to feed my child, yes, BUT, I should also keep myself covered while doing so. Also, when I began to lactate, I did not turn into a cow. I still don't want my breasts shown to the public. They are a private thing and I know my husband would not appreciate them being shown off just because I was feeding our children. As for feeding in the restroom....NO WAY! They are full of germs and smell horrible. I would never eat in the restroom and my child should not either. Most of the time, I would look for an out of the way peaceful place. Breastfeeding was a very bonding time for me and my children as well as a feeding time. If I could not find an out of the way place, I would be sure I was covered for me and those around me. I think seeing a woman who is covered says "Oh, there is a mama feeding her baby". I think a woman who is covered says "Wow, there's a boob!" -
I had these so bad one day that I ended up in the ER and I am not even banded yet. See more at my post about that day: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/my-protein-shake-tried-kill-me-75249/

I have received more support from my skinny friends than my heavy ones. The skinny ones actually are excited and counting down the days with me. The heavy ones (except for two) are silent and a bit distant. Some have even been ugly in how "awful" that I would do something like this. Yeah! How awful that I would try to be thin and healthy. I am such a bad person. I know they are jealous and feeling threatened and I just love them anyway. They are my friends and I know that deep in their hearts they wish it was them so I am not being to hard on them.

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
sistasassy replied to Cappy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey to all the newbies! Congrats on getting your date and welcome to the Notorious Novembers! I have just 2 and a half weeks to go. I am so excited. I start my pre-op diet on October 29th. I think I will be to excited to stand myself after that! :w00t::tongue::w00t: -
Yea! I finally got my date! I have been patiently (well mostly) since May! November 11...here I come! Woohoo! Dr. Albert Gilman in Decatur, IL is doing my surgery!

What kind of PreOp diet are you going to be on?
sistasassy replied to Froggi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mine is: Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch Tomato juice for morning snack Lean Quizine, Healthy Choice, or Smart One for supper Fat free yogurt or Protein Shake for evening snack Carbs are to be 50-80 grams Protein is to be 60-90 grams Calories are to be 800-1000 I do get the evening off the night before my surgery. I had already planned a Pampered Chef party and they said as long as I do not get carried away that I would be fine. I have planned food that is very "pre-op diet friendly". I know I will be over a bit on carbs and calories but not by much if I use my head. I start my pre-op diet on October 29 and go to November 11 when I have surgery. Just under two weeks by a day or two. -
TQUAD64! How exciting! So far, it looks like we are on the only ones on the 11th. I had the option to have surgery on the 14th but my birthday is the next day and I did not care to be on the hospital on that day. (my doc requires an overnight stay for everyone) PLUS, it will put me that much closer to mushies by Thanksgiving. We are going to a HUGE family dinner that day and being on liquids will stink.....but will still be sooooooo worth it, if I am.

November 11! Woooooooohoooooooo! I am so excited now that I just can't stand myself! Dr. Gilman in Decatur, IL is doing my surgery.

I just got my date today! I am going to be banded on November 11. I am very excited and now a bit nervous. Hang in there. It takes time but once you get there it will be so worth it.

??? Quick Question????
sistasassy replied to hersheymalone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My docs says decaf tea is fine and it tastes the same as regular tea. I will still check with your doc to make sure he is in agreement. You do want to be sure to follow your doctor's orders and not ours. Good luck! I can't wait until I am the day before surgery! -
I agree with everyone to a point. Subway has their right to not reduce the price but they do not have the right to be rude. I would just go somewhere else from now and leave Subway for when you are not with your family. My family does that with many restaurants. We go to our choice of restaurants depending on the mix of our family together at that time. I am sorry he was so rude. So many people in the work force now seem to be that way. Hang in there and just find someplace a little more friendly. We love Cracker Barrell. They are willing to make just about anyone happy. They also let you order from the kid's menu.

My date is still not definate but SUPPOSED to be definately in November now. We will hope and pray. Anyway, I am 42 and the mother of 5 awesome kids (AJ - he is 17; Kendra - she is 15; Joey, Matt, and Missy - all of which are 13). I have the world's best husband (Greg) and a mammoth black labrador named Jesse (who totally rules the house). I am very involved in the ministries of my church and spend a great deal of time there. We just completed our new building which currently seats around 500 but have begun a new building fund for an even bigger sanctuary that will seat well over 1000. In my free time I read christian novels (Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, and Randy Alcorn are my favs), spend time with my kids who have tons of activities going on, and try to sneak in a few free hours here and there to get away with my hubby. I developed Panic Disorder in February of this year so I have not been working an actual paying job other than a small part time business I run from home. It has been quite a roller coaster. I am just now getting everything settled down and feel that I will be ready to go back to work within a few months after I have my surgery. My doctors want me to stay off until we are sure the attacks are controlled. I love life and I love being able to give to others and help others in need. I am excited about surgery in November and figure that it will fall just about in time for me to be on Clear liquids for Thanksgiving. :smile2: Oh, well, at least I will be on the road and running....er, well, walking. Ready to get this show on the road now!
