  1. I think it is wonderful that you are willing to get healthy for yourself and your baby. I know what being pregnant and overweight is like. It was very rough on me and my son. You do not want to go through that. It is a very scary way to go. The lap band would be an awesome choice because it would allow you to lose weight and then still eat healthy once you get pregnant. Be sure to read alot hear and you will find out all the information you need. Welcome to the site!

    Soft stop

I was released to mushies yesterday and, before I ate, I was starving. I had a few slow bites and noticed that the "ravenous" feeling I had before eating was gone. I was no longer hungry but not stuffed. I wonder if that is maybe what they are talking about. Just guessing.
  3. I was the same way. After a few days, I did have some trouble while eating. It was mostly with air wanting to come out while I was eating. I have no trouble with eating or drinking now and I would also wonder if there was a band in there if I could not feel the port. I get my first fill in two weeks so I think I will know there is a band then. My doc feels certain I will at any rate.

    Moved to mushy heaven today!

It was awesome. I kept my bites very small and only ate about a tablespoon...maybe two, then stopped.
  5. I saw my doctor for my two week post-op appointment. He said I was healing well and moved me to mushies. I was so excited! I made another appointment for two weeks from today and I get my first fill then. I believe he said I would stay on mushies for a while longer after that and then move to soft solids a few weeks later. I am walking on my treadmill now and working my time up to 30 minutes. I want to get to 30 minutes a day but get more mileage into that time. Anyway, I ran straight out the door and went to Taco Bell. I got Beans with a bit of cheese and sour cream. I had about three small bites and I was full. I still have enough leftover to do me for another three meals.

how are the post ops doing?

I am thirteen days post-op and I am feeling pretty awesome. I have a bit of incision pain where the port is from time to time but that is not major. I am still on liquids but get to start mushies on Tuesday. I am very excited about that. I figure my weight loss may slow a bit when I do but that is okay as well. I am just ready to move forward.
  7. I have panic disorder and take 1.5 mg of Xanax over the course of the day. As I lose weight, will I need to lower my dose?
  8. I am almost two weeks post op and was the same way. I did everything from get a massage to take long aromatic bathes to get my mind off of it. I finally just got out of the house and saturated myself of other things. That was the only thing that worked. I was packed WEEKS before my surgery!

    Mattoon area bandsters??

Hey all! I am banded! Nov. 11 was my day! I am down 17 lbs between pre and post op so far. I will be two weeks banded on Monday and I start mushies on Tuesday! I am so ready! I am not having any troubles. All went well in surgery and since I have been home. Had one day of nausea about four days after surgery but am thinking it may have been a bug. I never did throw up, so that was good news. Let me know how everyone is! We DO need a Mattoon area support group!
  10. I would say it is due to the initial swelling from surgery. I had that too for the first few days and then it got better. Be sure to sip slowly and it should ease it. It also could be because of the air working its way out of your system. I constantly felt like I needed to burp for the first few days everytime I toop a sip of anything.

    Thanksgiving and family...

You could just tell them you are "watching what you eat because you are having issues with your stomach" (which you will have if you eat all that food).
  12. Decaf tea if you like tea. Shaved ices of all flavors. SF Cheesecake pudding is very good...add a bit of extra milk to make a bit creamier. SF chocolate pudding is excellent.

How long is your post-op diet?

I am close to the end of my two weeks on liquids. I then start four weeks of mushies. At the end of the four weeks, I will get my first fill and start on soft solids for another couple of weeks and then on to solids.

    I stink need shower

I was allowed to shower later that day after my surgery. I was just not allowed to scrub or rub where the incisions are. I was so glad to get that betadine (sp) and icky hospital smell off me. Was glad to smell like a girl again.

    Liquid diet Blahs!!!

Keep after that diet. It is okay if you have a "cheat" moment now while you are on pre-op. Just be sure you get that out of your system because you don't want to do that on liquids after surgery. I cheated here or there before surgery too. I think everyone does. You are almost there! Five days to go and you will be banded! Hang in there!
  16. I am 11 days post-op and I too have been a bit hungrier than during the first few days. I am on liquids until Monday. I have been fighting this problem with a continuous stream of liquids. I have a creamy soup about three times a day, a thinned out cup of SF chocolate pudding twice a day, and a stream of Water, crystal lite, decaf tea, grape juice, water, etc. all the rest of the time. I have some pudding just before bed and keep a glass of something to drink by my bedside in case I wake up and need a little something in the middle of the night. Usually this is decaf tea with a bit of Splenda in it. I tend to crave something sweet when I wake up for some weird reason. I have been steadily losing between .5 and 1.5 pounds per day. I know this will slow once I go to mushies but I have been enjoying it for now. My brother shot a big ole buck this past weekend so I made a huge pot of deer chili tonight for my family and so my dinner was a cup of the juice strained out. It was a very nice change from the creamy soups. I am looking forward to mushies on Tuesday but am a bit scared of them. I don't want to overdo too much. Afraid I may just stand at the blender all day blending things up and eating! :smile2: My family will come home at the end of the day and everything in the house will be pureed and I will look like a pregnat whale!
  17. My current weight: 226.5. Thanks, Froggi, and good luck on your surgery!

    What's up doc?

My doc agrees with yours except I have to steer clear of pilates and crunches until I am four weeks post op. Then I am good to go. He has been giving me Advil since the day of surgery. I can also drink coffee but he prefers me to drink decaf. I drink decaf anyway due to panic attacks.

    Recovery Time?

I sing as well and I would definately have a back up plan just in case you are not up to it. Breathing deeply is not the easiest for a few days after surgery. I am not sure if it is due to the intubation or for some other reason. Your upper abdominal region is going to be tender and being able to do the deep "belly" breathing required for quality singing may be rough. You may do just fine. I am eight days post-op and am just now feeling up to singing again.

    5 days post op

Congrats on your surgery! I too was watching the show about that poor girl and knew I had done the right thing at that point. I am one week post op and have been losing on a liquid diet (two weeks here). I want to be healthy and watching that show gave me that much more motivation. I craved french fries the other night. My family was eating them. They smelled SOOOOOOOOOOO good. I quietly went into the bedroom, got a dab of Vicks and put it under my nose. Instant-Odor-Be-Gone! No more craving! Put that one in your bag of tricks and it may help on a rough day. It's helping on mine! Congrats again and welcome to bandster land!
  21. My new weight is 228! Yea! Six figures! For a woman that is AWESOME (that would even be awesome for a man)! That is most definately braggable and notable (wanna make Canadiangirl my best friend :rolleyes2:). As for the GLITTERWORD thing, I think you new glitterword is way cool. I may just have to start sportin' that one myself. You have every right to be grumpy right now. I would be too if I were in your shoes. Don't worry about this silly thing anymore and you just concentrate on getting excited about your surgery. Happy days are ahead! :tongue2:

Welcome bubz and congrats on becoming a bandster! You were banded on my birthday! Does that make us related?? Glad you found us! Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.
  23. Well, my story is rather boring. Nothing eventful other than arriving about 20 minutes late due to heavy rain on our drive and then being attacked by a fleet of nurses to get me into surgery on time. Other than that, I was in and out of surgery and put on Clear liquids immediately. I was served up a tray of about eight different types of clear liquids and given my choice and told to have as much as I could tolerate. I am still tolerating liquids quite well today although not as well as yesterday and am able to have full liquids now instead of just clear. My recommendation is just as all of the others have said and that is to get up and WALK WALK WALK. If you are in the bed and begin to get this horrible back ache or shoulder ache, get up and walk. I walked the halls during the afternoon and early evening and then walked in my room later in the evening. I am not talking about 30 minute walks but get up and walk for about 10 minutes every time you hurt or you think about it. It made a HUGE difference in that ache. Today, I don't have any of that aching. Now, I just have the tummy aching where my incisions are. My doctor has me on Motrin and said not to worry about erosion (said they have learned it is not a factor with the band). I had two doses last night and have only had one dose today. I have been sleeping in between all the walking both yesterday and today. Just feel drained. I do feel a bit like I am retaining some Water and my tummy is a bit swollen but I figure that is all from the surgery and the massive amounts of fluids they pumped into me. Overall, it was not bad. I have slept most of the day and am planning to go to church tonight for our Wednesday evening service. I can sit and then get up and walk the halls (our building is massive) if I need to. I am on liquids for two weeks, then mushies for four weeks. At that point, I get my first fill and then start on solids. I am just so glad to be home and glad to finally be on the road to being healthy. Thank you to all of you who are banded and offered so much support and good luck to all of you who are to be banded this month! I am so excited for all of us!
  24. My brand new current weight is 229! Thanks, Froggi, for all the hard work you are doing on this spreadsheet.:smile2:
  25. I get so excited watching everyone's weight dropping! Even if some of the drops are small, they are still drops! Be encouraged! We have not even had our first fills yet and we are already losing!
