Ruby, Looks as if you have lost 70 lbs. in a little over a year. Was it slow and gradual or did you lose in spurts? The reason I'm asking is I can't seem to see any weight come off in a month. I'm still running 3 5K's a week and will begin to start some strength training this week. Thanks:confused:

    fills & your diet

I've had 3 fills and can eat anything I want which is WAY too much. I guess I need another fill. Seems I get good restriction for about 2-3 days after a fill, then nothing.

Jachut, Thank you for chiming in on this. As you are the poster to get me off the couch and back into the gym I appreciate you sharing your experiences and knowledge. I'm not worried about how tight or lose my band is, just trying to use the tool properly and exercise is the correct way to use it. Thanks again for the info. and by the way, I now proclaim you to be a fitness guru. I guess jogging then sprinting would also help burn more fat (not just calories) during a workout session, correct?

HELP! I read the other day that jogging burns less fat than brisk walking does. Could this be true. The article said that jogging burns carbohydrates while brisk walks shouldn't get your heart rate and respiration rate as high and you burn more fat, could this be true? This information did say, yes you will burn more calories jogging for 30 minutes than walking 30 minutes, but more "fat" was burned in the walking 30 minutes. Any truth to this?:confused2:

I know I'm doing the right things and this morning maybe it's beginning to pay off. Got on the scales (which I said I wouldn;t) and was down to 254. I know it's only a couple of lbs. but that's the way it came on, guess that's the way it must come off. Needless to say it does make you feel better when the scales are moving in the negative direction. I'm hoping to be under 250 in a week or maybe two. Can't remember the last time I weighted less than 250. Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words.

I know what you mean when you say your weight seems to vary by the hour. I can be up or down 4-8 lbs in a day. I realize this is Water, but it never goes down. I've been at 260-258 etc. for over a month and a half. I must say I'm VERY frustrated. Anyone with some suggestions?
  15. with all implantable devices the hospital is considered the vendor and must keep records of what device was implanted and the serial number, model number and manufacturer. This is federally mandated. Your hospital should be able to get you all the information needed. This is all part of SMDA, Safe Medical Device Act.

    Plateaued after 1st fill

No resistance training yet, just cardio. Might start a little weight lifting today after I run my 5K.
  17. Started walking the day before my last post. 5 weeks ago I joined Planet Fitness. My goal was to be able to run a 5K by this fall. When I started I could run about 1/2 mile without stopping. For the last week I have been running the complete 5K without stopping. On my way out the door now to PF, will run my second 5K this week.

    Exercise frequency

Well, I have stuck to my promise to get moving. Joined a gym 4 weeks ago. Could run 1/2 mile without stopping. My goal was to be able to run a 5K by this fall. Well, I've been running a 5K for over a week now. My daughter and I will be going to the gym in a few minutes. (I'll run a 5K) Here is my problem. In the past month and a half I have not lost a pound, even with a fill. Could I possibly be putting on one to two pounds of muscle a week and losing 1-2 lbs. of fat? I want to see the scales move, if you know what I mean. I am making much better choices about what I eat, have not had fast food in over a month or two, hopefully will never eat that crap again. Any suggestions on getting the scales moving.

    Plateaued after 1st fill

I have not lost in 2 months and my last fill (3 wks ago.) gave me great restriction for about 2.5 weeks but still no lbs. lost . I did start exercising about 2 months ago. Started running, could do almost a half mile without stopping, now I'm running 3 miles without stopping. Could I be putting on muscle mass and losing fat?

    Are Fills Painful?

no pain on my fills, felt like a mosquito bite.
  21. BabsAnn Can't speak about medicare, but Dr. Cook is the bomb. I believe he is an EXCELLENT surgeon and has a wonderful staff. Between Dr. Cook, Jock, Becky and Meredith you are in good hands. We are all wishing you the very best in your journey.
  22. I have no idea the costs. That would not have been an option for me. Dr. Cook is great, very serious kind of guy (I like to joke around a lot). He seems to be a very good surgeon, great staff also. I've had 2 fills and am not restricted very much at all. I go back for my 3rd on Tues. He's pretty conservative with the fills, which is probably best. Best of luck in your journey.

So... what do you fellas do?

I was in SA for the final four, after the first game we went to Austin and had a great time. Great music town! I lived in Chapel Hill in '85, Uncle Jim is over all foreign language studies and my wife got her Master's last spring, you could say we're pretty big Tar Heel fans.

So... what do you fellas do?

Unemployed maybe, but you sure have a job. Can't even imagine what Med. school is like. Friend of mine scored 92 percentile on LSAT and said law school was pure HELL. Best of luck with your studies and upcoming surgery. The surgery should be a breeze, mine went great. The term minimally invasive surgery is a little misleading for the first 3 days. Everything GREAT now.
  25. Just read the thread on exercise, I believe my lack of is why I seem stuck. Will begin walking today. Live very close to Hickory city park tennis courts near the bicycle paths. If anyone is interested in getting a little more exercise please let me know, would love to play some tennis.
