This statement says just what I needed to hear!!! -
Is it OK to eat right b/4 a fill? I'm HUNGRY with minimual restriction but will be on the usual liquids/mushies for the next 4 days. Anyone know??

Hey MSnika3, I was banded May 8 & have only lost 9 lbs. I've had 2 fills & will be getting another this Fri, Thank God! I have NEVER been able to diet. It seems it works against me whenever I did. This is why I got the band. I feel I shouldn't have to live on a diet...just eat very small amounts of what I want (within reason). People who are thin eat what they want in smaller portions so this is what I'm hoping for with the proper restriction. Even with 2 fills I still have very little restriction, I can eat as much as I could b/4 the band. Hope you have better luck with your 2nd!

I was banded May 8 and have only lost 10 lbs since. I've had 2 fills & have very little restriction. Why can't I eat like I'm suppose to? I'll tell you...because I feel the same as before getting the band. I couldn't diet then so why should I be able to now? People on this site keep saying "watch what you eat, don't stretch out your pouch, protein/veggies/carbs" etc. but if I was able to control my intake I wouldn't have forked over 14K for this surgery! I'm sorry but I'm pretty pissed off at this point. I have never ending stomach issues but nothing shows up on any of the tests I've had done. I just had a CT-scan yesterday to see why I'm having inflammation in my stomach & horrible gas pressure 24/7. Now who wouldn't be pissed off? Not only have I not lost hardly any weight but I'm sick all the time. I have a feeling the doctor didn't do anything wrong during surgery since the tests I've had so far indicate there is nothing wrong. I hate to sound like such a "B" but I have nowhere else to vent. Please, can anyone give me any encouragement that I haven't wasted my money on this procedure? I read all the time how everyone just loves their band but would you still be in love if all you had lost was 10 lbs in 3 months? Thanks for listening!

Help, I can't control myself!
crazycatlady replied to crazycatlady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Anabella, I have no idea the amt. in my band. I guess I haven't been very aggressive about getting fills since I went out of the country & have been having stomach issues. I can get another in about 1 week. Thanks for your input. -
Dear Flower Faery, I have the EXACT thing but with lots of gas. I was banded May 8, 2008 & it has been this way ever since. I have almost no restriction since I've only had 2 fills so that's no the problem. I take acid reflux meds even though I don't have heartburn & it used to help b/4 I was banded but does nothing for my stomach pain now. I am constantly in pain like someone kicked my in the gut & have almost gone to the emergency room twice with the pain. I have been to see 3 doctors for this & Thur. I will have a CT-Scan of my stomach. I have to drink 2 bottles of this gross barium crap & have an IV with dye in it so they can watch how it moves thru my intestines(I guess). The gas for me is the main issue I think since when I burp, & I do mean BURP, it seems to relieve the pressure but it comes right back. I'm doing the same starting today by eating a soft, bland diet to see if that helps. It's my unprofessional opinion that I have some sort of inflamation in the area causing excess gas. The funny thing is that when I take Ibuprofen it relieves the pain but not the gas. You might try that to see if it helps. Sorry I couldn't help more since I'm in the same boat. Thank God my insurance covers this.

What is a sleeve? How is it different from a band?

The same has happened to me & I was banded 5/08/08. I posted the same question & got no response. Did you ever get an answer?

How many times have your had your port fixed
crazycatlady replied to slimmy120's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded May 8 & have had a few instances where I was reaching for something & had terrible pain at my port site. Do you know what this might be? -
Please, please can anyone help me? I have been to 3 doctors & nobody can help. My problem is that my stomach ALWAYS hurts. I was banded May 8 & have 1 fill but no restriction at all. I eat as I did b/4. I eat the same things as I did b/4 too just not as much because it makes my stomach hurt worse. (I haven't lost any weight since the week after surgery either) The pain isn't due to any type of blockage or is it a nauseous pain but like I've been kicked in the gut & lots of gas. Does anyone think it's due to me eating the same stuff I did b/4 surgery? It doesn't seem to matter what I eat since the pain is always there. Any suggestions would help since I'm starting to freak out. This might not have anything to do with the band but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Thanks in advance... Leslie

Why do I feel like this all the time?
crazycatlady replied to crazycatlady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I live on Gas-X. I have tried walking somewhat but I usually feel too bad to walk any distance. I might try it again though, thanks for reminding me. The doctors just want to give me meds that don't work. I will probably have to have a CT scan done if it doesn't clear up. Thanks! -
If you're researching lapband, you should know. . .
crazycatlady replied to Shinyhappymommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OMG, isn't 1 lb a day way too fast to be losing? That's 7 lbs a/week & they say you shouldn't lose more than 2 per wk. Why so fast & what does you doctor say about that? -
I had my 1st fill June 4 & ever since I've been able to eat anything I want. I'm very discouraged especially after reading some can't tolerate certain things after 1 fill. I'm afraid I might stretch out my pouch since I can eat normal. I don't pig out & never really did but how do I know if I'm eating too much if I don't have restriction to warn me? I can't get another fill until July 9. Anyone else experience this? Thanks!!

If I was able to diet all the time why would I fork over 14K to have weight loss surgery? I am being told to diet & watch my intake of calories while I wait for my restrictive fills. I've had 1 fill which did nothing & it is so very hard to control my hunger. I know it's only a tool but I don't want to live my life on a diet. I was hoping that the band would restrict my intake enough that I could eat very small amounts of what everyone else eats & that would be how I would lose the weight. I think if I was able to get off most of the weight it would be easier to watch what I ate since I never want to get back to this situation again. I'm really discouraged since I have only lost 10 lbs since surgery May 8. I've had 1 USELESS fill & am very afraid I will start to gain since I CANNOT STAY ON A DIET!!!!!!! Also, I cannot get another fill until July 9 because I'm going out of the country in 2 weeks.

Howdy fellow Texan! (Sara in Tyler) I'm in Houston & I went to JourneyLite, Dr. Collier & you get free fills for life at their surgery center. It might be worth it to travel or find something similar closer to you. It cost $13500. That includes 1 yr follow-up doctor & nutritionist. Just a thought.

Every time I go to a class with the Surgeons
crazycatlady replied to mphsmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I felt the same & wanted the bypass because of how they pushed & praised it. When I asked my lap-band doctor(who also does bypass) why many do this he said because after bypass their job is basically over. There is no real on going follow-ups they have to do like fills, monitoring, etc. That sold me on lap-band! -
Why no restriction at all???
crazycatlady replied to crazycatlady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, you've done great! I've only lost 10 lbs since surgery & that number will be falling if I don't get restriction soon. I cannot go earlier because I will be out of the country July 1-8 & they want to wait until I get back. -
So glad to read your response. I thought I'd flushed 14K down the drain. I was banded May 8th, 1 fill & absolutely no restriction. I have lost 7 lbs since surgery but will be gaining if I don't get restriction soon! Thanks for the encouragement.

I was banded May 8 & it has been hell ever since. First it was recovery, & now lots of gas & actual stomach pain, not shoulder kind. I have tried everything for the gas without any luck. My doctor doesn't seem to be much help either. "continue to use gas-x" is all he says. Maybe I'm eating stuff that doesn't agree but nothing has stuck & it's not that kind of pain. Has anyone had this problem? I've had 1 fill last week but still no restriction at all. Does anyone newly banded have these problems?
-
Hi Gwenn, I had my 1st fill yesterday & I feel the exact same as you. I was starting to finally feel better since my surgery May 8th & now it starts over (sort of). Maybe it's gas pains but I feel doubled over & I'm hungry but can only drink a small amt. of smoothie. I feel as if I've been kicked in the gut. What's up with that?

AAAH! Are all these vitamins necessary?
crazycatlady replied to pinkdots410's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should also wait to take vitamins until you get on full liquids since the minerals might upset your stomach. -
Two days Post-op (semi miserable)
crazycatlady replied to YoungNy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Howdy YoungNY, I was banded May 8th & still don't feel that great. I was by myself when I got home & it was very hard. You do what you have to do though. I never threw up but I always used anti-nausea meds with the pain meds. I also didn't take vicodin since it causes me to feel worse than better. You should try to manage pain with something like Tylenol since it won't upset your stomach. I think pain meds make it worse anyway. Good luck sweetie...
