In order to get so fat that you need bariatric surgery you need to have a some kind of disordered eating behaviour. Whether that's legitimate food addiction or long term poor eating habits. This eating behaviour develops ovet a long period of time and is a powerful psychological influence. A calorie deficit diet is hard for anyone, let alone those with disordered eating behaviour. Just because we've had the surgery and removed the physiological stimulus to over eat or make poor food choices, doesn't mean the thoughts and behaviour change. It's HARD.
